Made an appointment here weeks in advance. Cancelled other appointments and cleared my schedule to see the doctor. Got a call 3.5 hours before my appointment saying my co-pay insurance (SF Health Plan) is not covered, and my appointment is cancelled. less than 4 hours before seeing me? How nice. I asked if I could pay out of pocket. "Nope, we can't do that. We don't allow that." I asked why I wasn't notified of the issue weeks ago. "We don't check insurance until the day of the appointment." I suggested they do check sooner than that (standard practice is to check during time of appointment and time of visit). But I don't get the feeling they care about patients needs or schedules here. read more

Disorganized office, took forever to be seen by Dr Calman. They did unnecessary vision checks, didn't ask if I agree or not. Did not relate to me the vision check results either. Very weird. Dr Calman was very efficient, talking to him took about 5 minutes and he gave good suggestions. read more

I had cataract surgery with Dr. Calman on both eyes. I have continued to see a different ophthalmologist in the office for a few years since. Dr Palovan (sp) is pleasant and professional. Dr. Calman on the other hand is rude, impatient and his bedside manner is horrifying. When I had surgery on my first eye I was wrapped in warm towels and trying to relax. He came into the room and began rapid firing questions at me and when I didn't respond quickly enough he literally yelled at me. And before my second surgery, he asked me a question in his office and I was slow to answer and he said, 'Well, if you can't answer that you need to see another doctor' and started leaving the room. I answered as quickly as I could and he calmed down. I kept going to his office but would NEVER EVER have surgery with him or see him again. read more

I have two things to say about premier eye care: The first is that Maia, the doctor's assistant (I do not know the correct title for her) was incredible. She was patient, she was compassionate and she was gentle. She went out of her way to make sure I was comfortable. The second is that the doctor was really knowledgeable and also that I felt heard. To me, the best doctor-patient relationships are a partnership: he, the expert, me, the sole owner of my eyes. This is why it's crucial for me to feel like there is room for collaboration. Long story short-this office staff and Dr Calman dropped the ball on the day of Glaucoma Surgery. 5 staff members and the doc failed to inform me what the surgery entails: do I smoke before surgery? do I eat the morning of? do I have someone with me to take me home? do I drive? walk? ride a bus on my own-THE BASICS! it dawned on me morning of i go online to figure it out! I called and expressed how I was upset that I didn't even have a clue what the surgery was even about-no literature mailed to me after consult! I again express to the office manager my concerns. SHE SITS ME IN AN EXAM ROOM THEN PROCEDURES TO MOCK ME TO THE DR. WHO WAS IN THE ADJACENT EXAM ROOM-his response? what's there to understand! I don't hand out FUCKING literature! now I'm pissed! and how am I to trust he will do an excellent job WITH MY EYES! THERES NO ROOM FOR ERROR AND THERE ISNT A TRANSPLANT OF EYES IN CASE HE FUCKS THE SURGERY UP! So I walked out of the exam room out the office to where they didnt even call me to find out why I left! I went home called them up and informed them to grow up! IT GETS WORSE! They take it upon themselves to have another doc take my case. I reluctantly agreed since its glaucoma for heavens sakes that needs attention. A month later I get a call agree to be seen by his colleague make an appt AND TOLD THEM IM BAD WITH APPOINTMENTS TO CALL ME DAY BEFORE TO TELL ME WHERE TO GO! Guess what?! TODAY IS THE APPT NO CALL OR EMAIL NO FRIENDLY REMINDER. So now I've got to call around to find out where to go and the new drs name at least! Jeez! I want to thank Dr. Calman, and his staff for an absolutely wonderful experience! I recently had surgery to implant a lens that really improved my eyesight. I can see without the aid of glasses now! The medical professionals are ok. I had two visits. I only got to see Dr. Calman during my first visit. He spent about 5 minutes with me. The rest of the treatment was provided by one of the staff medical professionals. She was doing a good job as far as I can tell. However, their administration is terrible. I received a bill about 6 months after the second treatment, telling me that this was the last reminder to pay my bill (even though this was the first bill I received) and threatening me that they will refer this to a collection agency. This was the last time I have visited that facility! read more

Not a great clinic. Pretty disorganized and run very late for appointment. I was told my appointment would be 30 minutes and explained that I had a tight schedule. They called me in late only after I reminded them I was there, promised I would be out in time, then ignored that time. Staff is very kind and competent but as an office it's disorganized and not recommended. Lots of better options around the city. read more

I called this place and had a really weird experience so I'm posting here to compare notes I need a prescription for contact lenses and have been shopping around. I was referred to this place as an option for low-cost vision care. I called them and asked how much it would be. They told me it was $145-174 for the contact lens exam but I also had to get a medical exam ($119). I was stunned because the last place I asked (Sears) only wanted $89. I figured I must have misunderstood something (it's been ages since I had my eyes looked at and frankly I don't really remember what's involved) so I called Sears back and asked if I needed a medical exam too. No, they told me. All I need is the prescription for contacts/eyeglasses. Anyhow, it's weird that this place wants nearly $300 for a service that's $89 elsewhere. read more

Do not go to this eye-care facility. The front desk staff is rude and poorly trained. As a business owner myself and an individual who works in the city HR management this place is sketchy at best. 1st let's start with scheduling the appointment. I understand it is lunch time, but that is why there are 3 individuals at the front desk, to take lunch separately, not all together at the desk eating over computers and engaging with customers, GO TO THE BACK, LEAVE PUBLIC VIEW AND EAT LUNCH! Why do you bother scheduling an individual for a 8:30am appointment if you "open at 8:30am" (which by the way I was there from 8:25 - 8:35 waiting for the front door to be opened which it wasn't, but watched staff showed up late). If your staff shows up late and is not ready to see patients until 8:45 then you need to have a talk with your staff to be ready for business at 8:30!!!! It's not only 15minutes. I planned and allotted this time to show up to my appointment on time, the least you could do is be prepared to provide my services on time. This should let you all know in the public, if they only care about money not providing the service, there are others out there who would pride themselves on quality customer service. read more

Bossed me around to do this and that while examining my eyes and even somewhat held my head in a not-so-nice way to get it into the position he wanted when he was frustrated. I made an appointment outside my regular optometrist to see Dr. Calman because I had a specific eye problem & my internist wanted me to see an ophthamalogist (these are M.D.s usually requiring 7 yrs of training including residency not including specialization vs. optometrists who are O.D.s that have 4 years and may or may not have additional training). Long story short, I didn't even get to see Dr. Calman. When one of the optometrists started to examine me, I explained I specifically asked for my appt to be with Dr. Calman and there was a specific reason why I made the appt with him. They said he'd see me but after checking with him a few minutes later they said he was too busy to see me and they didn't think it was necessary. Wait, I took time off work and made an additional appointment to have my eyes dilated after my regular optometrist already examined me and you do a switcharoo on me? You guys were the one that set the appt time and because you're trying to squeeze as much money from people as possible you don't have time to see me? Bite me. The examination was fair enough but they kept me for an hour and a half (which means I have to run out and feed the meter since they have no parking lot) for a total examination time of maybe 5-7 minutes. And after I expressed my dissatisfaction, I got, "How will you be paying for your co-pay?" Go somewhere else. read more

Premiere Eyecare = FAIL Worst. Optometrist. Ever. It was bad enough that a simple eye exam took an hour and fourty-five minutes (!), but the pain didn't end there. Since they didn't have my prescription, they said they'd help me locate another optometrist nearby that did have it. Four days later, I still don't have my contacts. Calls are unreturned. Their office staff is a hurricane of incompetence and rudeness. Worst. read more

I needed my eye lid looked at, and they did a full exam just to milk my insurance- then they never billed my insurance. I only picked this place because it was on my Cigna plan. I made an appointment, it's was easy and fast. My ophthalmologist was really nice, understanding and patient. He asked me multiple times if I had any questions and if I was satisfied. He gave me some some samples and some advice. It wasn't cheap but it wasn't expensive. My was caring, professional and efficient. I will come back. read more

I went to Premier Eyecare because it's included in my insurance (VSP) and convenient to my home. Fortunately, it also turned out to be a great place. I first went in for an eye exam because I noticed a little bit of blurriness at night and I wanted to find out what was going on. Turns out, I have an astigmatism and need to wear glasses when I drive at night. Well, when they gave me my first pair of glasses ever and it was really bad, I could barely walk around with them on, the whole world looked curved and it made me dizzy! So, I had to go in a second time to fix it by blurring my vision a little so that the world wouldn't be so warped! But, even though they did a great job, the second try didn't quite fix it, I still couldn't use them driving at night when I was supposed to. So, I had to go in for yet a third time to get another prescription. Each time I went in, Marcellus Chow (the fantastic optometrist who worked with me) was patient and very interested in figuring out what was going on and how to make it work. I wasn't charged anything for having to go back again and again to get the prescription right. I will definitely stick with them in the future. Very professional, very good service. read more

I've had bad luck with other optometrists. They never seemed to get my prescription right. Not so with Dr. Chow. He was really nice, really thorough, and best of all, he got my prescription right! Also, I'd tried to wear contact lenses before, and had come to the conclusion that I just couldn't do it. They always made my eyes feel tired, and by the end of the day, I was happy to take them out. Dr. Chow explained how I needed to "build up" to wearing my lenses full time. He gave me detailed instructions on how to become a contact lens wearer, and his instructions worked! Premiere Eye Care is not a fancy operation, and I don't buy frames there, so I can't comment on those. But if you just want a good eye exam from a nice guy, Dr. Chow at Premiere is your man. read more

I was seen promptly for my annual eye check. Dr. Chow was thorough and kind; a very pleasant melodious voice as he explained all the things he was doing and why (looking down to the left, etc...) When it came time to choose my frames, the girls at the front desk were gracious in helping me decide between designs and choosing what looked best. read more

I had a specific issue going on with my eyes last year which led me to Dr. Calman. I found Dr. Calman as a direct referral from my optometrist who said he was the best. Prior to my initial appointment, he spent 20 minutes with me on the phone and answered all of my questions regarding to upcoming procedure. I felt completely comfortable and safe in his hands. I am grateful for Dr. Calman and his entire staff for taking such good care of my eyes. I look forward to other visits and know that I am in the best hands with him and his staff. Terrible. Doctor was 40minutes late. I paid over $210 to have my eyes checked and $80 for oral antibiotics. During my visit Dr.Lee recommended ointment but that was only if antibiotics didn't work. They certainly did not work, so I called to have the prescription filled for the ointment. She insisted I pay another $140 for visit and I refused. I found another doctor through Minute Clinic and was prescribed the $20 ointment. She was confused as to why I was prescribed oral antibiotics when I have blepharitis and it is a skin condition. Doctors here just want to make a quick buck. The office was also unsanitary and disorderly. read more

I think the only thing I didn't like was the long wait. It would be nice if the receptionists would let people know how long the wait is and not just leave you hanging. My appointment was for 8:40am and was not seen till a little after 9. Plus, they could be a little bit more friendly and smile more. I was seen by Dr. Chow. He was really nice. He knew that I was nervous so he took me step by step and told me what was going to happen. He put me at ease and took time to answer any questions I had. All in all the experience was fine.. friendly, competent doctor, average facilities.. the wait was somewhat long, but I'm sure it's just because I scheduled my appointment for the very end of the day. Don't remember her name as this was 16 months ago. She has so much attitude and ZERO patient manners. This place is great. I am a little bit blind (it's like being a little bit pregnant ya see) in one eye, so my mom is always on me about having regular eye-checkups. Well, I hate having them because the doctor always gets so excited when he sees my cool condition and wants to examine it from other angles and call in the other doctors to consult, I just want to make sure I'm not getting more blind. Dr. Angela Tam was sweet and gentle and really knowledgeble and took the time to explain everything to me. Plus the glasses folks were able to replace my lenses while I waited getting dialated (you'll read some magazines in Spanish, but you won't notice because you can't see anyway). AND I got to pitch in with the employees and help a fellow customer pick his frames. Not bad for an afternoon out of the office! read more

I called many places looking for someone who could check out my pinkeye, and finally found this place not too far from where I live (Excelsior). I had to wait about 20-30 minutes before they called me in, but after that it was pretty smooth sailing. The nurse who tested my vision I think neglected to inform me of some focus knobs, so it was much harder than usual for one eye (I still got everything, though :)) The doctor who examined me, Dr. Yu, was extremely professional. Props to him. They confirmed I was a very standard (and minor) case, gave me some drops and decided to dilate and do a quick eye check-up while I was there. This meant more waiting while my eyes dilated, unable to read their magazines or play my sudoku (i'll def bring my ipod next time). Let's face it, optometry appointments are inherently uncomfortable. Who wants their eyes prodded and blinded all the time? But this place was alright. Not amazing, but totally satisfactory. Clean, convenient, multilingual. read more

Really I'm giving this place 3.5 stars. I go here because it's convenient to my place and because it's in my VSP. It can be crowded, the waits long (unless you go early morning) and the front desk, check-in people are hit or miss on the friendly scale. Undoubtedly the best part about this place is Dr. Chow. He is AWESOME! Dr. Chow is thorough, listens to you and your concerns, explains everything he's doing during the exam in detail, tells you what he's looking for and is patient with all your questions (including the dumb ones) and believe me, I can be a pain in the butt with the questions, most of which i'm sure could be classified as dumb! I've learned so much from Dr. Chow and I really feel that he has his patients best interests, and eye health, at heart. I completely trust him with my eyes. Whenever the time comes he's not my eye doc anymore, I'm going to be so sad! read more

This is my first review, and I write because I am consistently impressed with this place. Last year I came in for a wellness exam and contact fitting. Dr. Tam was nice, efficient, and thorough. A week later when my contact lenses were bothering my eyes, I was able to book an appointment right away, and I was able to return my opened packages of contacts and get new ones at a discount. In every case the staff was friendly and efficient, and I did not have to wait long for my appointments. They were also very conscious of my insurance and the potential out-of-pocket cost, making sure I was okay with everything long before the checkout time came. This year I went back for my exam, and I saw Dr. Chow. He was prompt, efficient, and very concerned about my worsening eye condition. He spent a great deal of time going over why my eyes were worsening, and set me up to visit him every week until things got better. I was impressed again with the awareness of insurance coverage throughout, and a consistent effort to reduce out-of-pocket cost for me, or to inform me of their recommendation vs. cost. The staff was again courteous and efficient. I highly recommend the doctors, staff, and frame selection. read more

I was seen by four docs at Premier Eyecare, all of whom were courteous and helpful. The surgical procedures were performed without difficulty at Campus Surgery Center in Daly City, where the staff were both efficient and caring. The resulting improvement to my eyesight is profound, and I am most grateful. All this, and at a very reasonable cost. Bravo ! I was referred to Premier Eyecare on the summer of 2016 so I could have a procedure done for a chalazion on my eye and was treated quite well in fact. The nurses were nice and helpful and Dr. Saldana was very kind and understanding of my concerns. The leading physician Dr. Calman was actually a bit rude but he did do a great job in my procedure. I was very relieved to have my chalazion removed. I would strongly recommend this practice as it does do very good work. read more

I've been going to Premier Eyecare for over 20 years, and have always received very professional and courteous service. I've had two lens implants (cataract surgery from Dr. Calman), have had Dr. Calman, Dr. Yu, and Dr. Saldana as my follow-up doctor and/or regular doctor for my regular optical hypertension check-ups. I went to Premier for an appointment and after I filled out their paperwork the receptionist told me that they didn't accept my insurance. What?? They took all of my insurance information and said it would be fine when I made the appointment! I was very upset since I had to miss work for this. Super poor customer service.
