I was so scared of going to the dentist after a horrific experience ~5 years ago. However, I knew I needed to go in, and after receiving a promotional consultation flier and reading the wonderful reviews, I decided to go for it. I am so happy I did! Not only was every step of the process clearly explained to me, but the entire staff (including Dr. Gupta, his reception staff, and the dental assistants and hygienists), were extraordinarily kind and accommodating. I was very scared and anxious about the work I needed done on my teeth, but those fears were quickly alleviated by the level of care I received. I was also explained in-depth the cost and offered a couple of different payment options before my treatment, which was very helpful. The clean, modern office was very impressive. Dr. Gupta's aptitude for painless anesthesiology and his quick, precise work made a procedure which I feared for years extremely easy to get through. He also took photos of the before/after work, which was personally very interesting to see. He has excellent "bedside" manner, never making me feel rushed with and taking the time to fully answer all questions I had. I will never go to another dentist again! Thank you Dr. Gupta and your wonderful staff.

They had me go in for an "emergency" that was not even an emergency, and waited until I was already finished with the appointment to tell me that taking a piece of food out of my tooth would count as my visit- leaving out the fact that I was scheduled for a regular checkup the following week. This is not the first time situations like this have happened and the woman who is the office manager has been extremely rude while smirking over these issues. After 5 years at a dentist office I really loved, I feel taken advantage of and screwed out of my regular checkup. Would not recommend this office. I want to be clear - The dental hygienist staff are amazing - they are not part of this bad review. And until this date, I had no negative interactions with this dentist office outside of the office manager making snotty comments such as "only people with money can afford to have teeth."

At 70 years old I began going to FANIKOS, she examined my teeth, took a mouth of X-rays even cleaned teeth and did 6 filling at one appointment. After a visit last year she said I needed to see another dentist ( specialist) to deal with under crown cavities, I signed a release to send them my X-rays and booked my next cleaning at her, FANIKOS office. 6 months go by I get reminders about my upcoming cleaning and then was told I had been released from FANIKOS to the specialist...yup thrown out of a dentist practice because she did not want to deal with any of my dental work. My whole family has been regular patients in this place. Recently, we received a very rude reminder about dental cleaning and a threatening message that if we don't schedule our last cleaning for the fiscal year, our account will be deactivated! What is that supposed to mean? I don't understand what kind of business this place is running if they think these kind of messages are going to bring more clients?! Quite the opposite! It is unheard of hygiene appointments to be required so patients can keep their account active! Usually, dental facilities and private offices send friendly reminders for the patients to take advantage of a covered by insurance dental cleaning since there are only 2 per year. The manager needs to really apologize to all patients who received this kind of unpleasant email or text message as this is really unprofessional and totally unacceptable! After all, there are at least 30 other dental offices in the areas near by Newton Corner, Watertown, Brighton and Waltham. This kind of treatment of the patients would completely drive them away! I scheduled fillings specifically around insurance coverage, but when I arrived I was booked for a completely different procedure that my dentist had never explained to me. I was also told I owed a balance that I had already paid in full (my insurance reimburses me after the fact), and the office could not clearly explain why the charge appeared or why they told me I had already paid. I was then told that they forgot to submit my claim to my insurance. Pondside is why, in my online dating profile, I list my amazing set of chompers as one of my key physical attributes. 9/16/16 Update: In February, Dr. O'Reilly wrote me the sweetest letter, informing me that he was retiring. It made me sad. I didn't know how to respond. What do you give to your retiring dentist, who made you just a pinch less anxious about going to the dentist, a pinch of happiness and jokes when you did, and a pinch less distrustful of any type of doctor at all, and over the course of decades, as you aged, was one of the doctors who made you trust the medical profession in a way you don't when you're a scared diabetic kid who gets jabbed too much? I don't think they make commemorative stuffed teeth to give retiring dentists. So instead, Dr. O'Reilly, I'm giving you this: an update to my 4-year-old review, to let you know that you are missed, and to say thank you so much for years of care and blather. From my very first visit, I was surprised at how little time the dentist spent with me. That only got worse over time. One filling turned into the most painful, drawn-out dental procedure I've ever had--and it wasn't even a complex one. I also raised concerns about teeth grinding and shifting, and was completely dismissed without any real discussion. I left that appointment feeling brushed off and unheard. Scheduling was another major issue. They couldn't accommodate a standard six-month cleaning schedule, booked me eight months out, and when I asked to be put on a cancellation list, they never followed up. Then they canceled on me two days before my appointment. At that point, I gave up. It's clear there are some kind and well-meaning people on staff, but my experience with the dentist and overall care was disappointing and, frankly, frustrating. I'm moving on to a new provider.
