Also, the 610 traffic in front of it was horrible! Everyone was nice and accommodating and the professional development I received from Lead4ward was fantastic. Writespace has become a wonderful resource for me as a writer, and I love watching it grow…read more Probably my favorite thing about Writespace is that it seeks to cater to more specific needs of Houston area writers. For example, there are classes that are geared toward specific genres such as horror, YA lit, etc. There are classes that focus on style, polishing your manuscript, finding an agent, etc. It's nice to take a class with a more specific focus (rather than something more general where it can be frustrating to get feedback from classmates who have no interest in your genre). The instructors have been great, and they are experienced writers who really know their stuff about the various aspects of writing and publishing (in part because many of them are published). Also, as a teacher with a very hectic schedule and living a bit outside of city limits, weekly classes in person aren't always ideal for me, but Writespace offers online courses as well as weekend courses to round out their weekly classes. I've been to several of the weekend classes, and they've all been top notch! I like that with my busy schedule, a weekend course is an easy commitment, and at the prices the classes are currently, I really feel I'm getting my money's worth and then some (a huge deal on a teacher salary!). I also tried out an online course (first time to ever try one since they were a very new thing when I was still in college and not offered for my area of study), and I was very pleased with the quality of the class. I would definitely recommend giving Writespace a try, particularly if you are a writer who is a) seeking high quality instruction and b) focused in a more specific are of fiction (such as horror, mystery, YA lit, etc).

I am extremely unhappy with my experience at Fortis Institute. The staff and teachers are…read moreincredibly unprofessional and unhelpful. From day one, I felt abandoned and left to figure things out entirely on my own. The staff and teachers simply do not do their jobs, failing to provide any meaningful assistance or support to students. The expectation here is that you handle everything by yourself, which is incredibly frustrating and not conducive to learning. I've learned next to nothing during my time at Fortis Institute because the teachers do not engage or assist in any meaningful way. I cannot emphasize enough how disappointed I am with this school. I would never recommend Fortis Institute to anyone. Save your time and money and look for a better institution that actually cares about its students' education and success.

Old school" instructor setting students up for failure…read more Doesn't care about what's best for the students, only cares what makes her job easier. Very unfair and inconsiderate when it comes to students. She's been here for years so I assume my complaints won't be acknowledged, I'm sure I am not the first person to complain about her. Fortis need to do better and hire people who care about their students and aren't using their position unethically. She has made me very discouraged, and I am considering dropping out and finding another school. I haven't had any other problems with any other instructors other than her. My whole class complains amongst ourselves but no one wants to complain to the school. But I do not care, I took a loan out and I'm not getting the education I'm paying for. She doesn't follow the lesson plans that are in our modules, so we are unprepared for assignments. I think I'm going to have to drop out and go to another school because this woman is on a power trip.

I provide documents showing that we had a dog who had surgery the same day who need to be tooking out every 2 to 3 hours. Lisa didnt care she said she offer a 5 mins grace period but not for animals only for the person who is taking the class then she said she the grace period can not be included with the actual break. She offered no solution, but to retake the class when he was more then have way through it. She didn't care about the money that was spent as his mother I wanted to see what option she can offer since this was her business as far as customer service and her response to my request was, are you proud that your child made these decisions to where they're in this position. Just because you make a mistake does make you a bad person. This lady shouldnot be allowed to to teach this course she does not have empathy and she is very rude to even fix her mouth to say that to someone parent. These are the type of acts that makes you a bad person having a bitter heart . It not what you say but how you say it.
