The food was incredible (mini crab cakes, stuffed mini potatoes, tuna with seaweed salad, and filo cups with Brie for apps and orange glazed chicken and shrimp and grits for the main course). Christie and Joe showed up early, prepared all of the food and made sure everything was set for when we arrived home from the wedding. Joe manned the kitchen while Christie made sure the appetizers kept coming! They even cleaned up the kitchen and put the leftovers in the fridge. We couldn't be happier that we chose Coastal Catering!

Even though our event was probably very small by his usual standards, I felt Joe gave me complete attention during the planning phase, making me feel like he really cared and would do as good a job for our small dinner party- as he would for a wedding of 500! The menu was Top Chef-level creative, the food was beyond delicious- and the presentation was first class all the way. I would recommend Joe and Coastal Catering and Events to anyone, for anything! You will be wowed!

Every year my family rents a house at Oak Island. We are a big group ranging in age from toddler to…read moreretired. One of our favorite traditions is the seafood boil from Outer Banks Boil Company. This is an ideal experience as a large group. Restaurants can be quite crowded around OKI during the summer, and impossible to sit all together. This meal allows for a great night together where they will come cook, serve, and clean it all up at your house! You just set your eat time. They come about an hour before and they handle the rest. Additionally, the boil is delicious. Shrimp, corn on the cob, red bliss potatoes, sweet Vidalia onions, and andouille sausage nicely seasoned and all cooked together in a pot. Everything is cooked to perfection. The shrimp are big and juicy. The potatoes soft. The sausage has a little kick but mild enough for most. The corn and onions absorb all the flavor of the other items. It's all so good. They lay it all out on plastic and everyone can just dig in. There is more than enough for all. They also provide all the extras-silverware, plates, lemons, old bay, cocktail sauce, and lots of melted butter. Their homemade cocktail sauce is quite good, it has a nice tangy to it. They bring a trash can to collect everything when you are done. They truly handle everything from start to finish. You just get to enjoy and do so in the comfort of your house (or rental). They also do offer a take out option, but I think catering is the way to go (especially if you a large group) for the ultimate experience. If you haven't tried a boil yet, put it on your vacation to-do list!

For the past decade or so, my family and Amy's family always look forward to the first week of…read moreAugust when we all head down to Oak Island for a week together. Lots of sun, catching up and eating!! Our yearly traditions include Pepperoni grill, Provisions, Flava ice cream, several trips to Walmart and our favorite meal of the stay, a seafood boil from Outer Banks Boil Company. Since it's Erik's birthday around the same time, we use it as an opportunity to celebrate his birthday as all of us chow down on that amazing meal. Outer Banks Boil Company site is located next door to the Publix grocery store on the island but I have never stepped inside there since the reservation is done on line or by phone and the boil takes place at residence. The team is very helpful and it is very easy to communicate and coordinate your boil with them. We did the basic one which comes out to approximately $25 per person and then of course there is the catering fee. It's not cheap, but it's very special and we think it's worth it! The boil comes with the standard stuff... Shrimp, corn, sausage, onions and potatoes. You can order all kinds of additions like clams and lobster tails etc. but the basic one seems to be enough for us. I forgot to order the corn muffins this time and I almost got killed because of it. I'll remember next year LOL There was plenty to eat, but our crowd definitely has a hearty appetite and there was barely anything left over by the time we were done. Our hearts were warm and our bellies were full by the time the boil was over. Everything tasted delicious. The sausage is a little spicy but I like it and I don't even like spicy things. When you get right down to it, the boil is a healthy meal comprised of seafood and corn and potatoes. The package includes cooking on site and clean up when you are done. They are happy to pack up anything left over but with our a group it was very little this year LOL I would highly recommend Outer Banks Boil Company while you are on Oak Island or in the vicinity. It is always tasty, plentiful, healthy and a unique experience for you and your guests to share together. And you don't even have to leave the house!! See you next August!!!

Live Oak is in a converted, turn of the previous century house, which makes for comfortable ambiance. Nice and quiet. The spinach salad I could eat as a meal. Very attentive, but not too attentive, service. Recommended.

She was very responsive and open to suggestions in creating a delicious 4 course meal. Her BBQ shrimp dish is out of this world good and left us craving it the rest of our stay! The short ribs and whole roasted sea bass were excellent as well. Overall, she was very responsive to our tastes and wants (including being mindful of nut allergies) and created and served us a delicious meal without us having to go out to a restaurant (which can be challenging with 13 people including two young children). She even cleaned up the kitchen before she left! She was very professional and the price was reasonable. Most importantly, the food and her attitude were top notch! Highly recommended for any personal chef or catering needs in the OIB area.

Family got married here a few months ago, and while I'm sure it seemed great for the wedding party,…read morethe venue was awful for guests. The space simply cannot accommodate the number of people advertised. The indoor area is not insulated for sound and is deafening when you get more than a couple dozen people inside. Those seated upstairs for dinner weren't served until over a half hour after everyone downstairs. Guests weren't permitted to use the on-site bathroom until after the ceremony was over (while filing in beforehand)! Neither the indoor nor the outdoor space is ADA compliant. The venue had to be talked into providing guests with water while waiting in the outdoor space in 100 degree heat. It was a truly awful experience, and I wouldn't recommend this venue to anyone.

Hours before the ceremony I received a call from the staff offering to set up chairs under the covered section of the venue in case the rain didn't let up. Not only did they set up the chairs for us, in the hours leading up to the guests arriving they were sweeping, squeegeeing, and air blowing rain water into the drains to keep the area dry for guests. Everyone was so friendly and accommodating. We didn't get to use the traditional aisle and benches but it was still just as beautiful and perfect as I imagined. I could not be happier and guests have continually been commenting on how beautiful and unique the space was.

Great venue that becomes what you want of it…read more I went here for a wedding. It's a big L shape with a large hall leading to a central courtyard. The courtyard attaches to some interior space. The space has lots of trees and landscaping inside to bring nature into the space. The attached interior space has some bathrooms that were clean and worked well. It's got an urban rustic feel. Lots of exposed brick with greenery growing up into it. It kind of reminded me of where Ross and Emily got married in Friends with the open ceiling space. Fortunately the weather cooperated and there wasn't sun beating down on the guests. The long hall and open ceiling made for some nice breezes. We ended up eating along long tables in the large hall which made use of the long dimensions. We didn't need a separate dance floor as the courtyard served as that. The staff was very nice and attentive. Not sure if they were from the venue or caterer, but they did a great job. We lucked out and the weather was beautiful. There was only one airplane that flew overhead and not during the ceremony. It was pretty loud when it flew over during the rehearsal, but the ceremony went great. It's very centrally located to downtown, right off Market and 2nd. Parking is available across the street.
