If only I had time to read reviews on this doctor. Please read this before seeing Dr. Bretan…read more First, his office staff is amazing. However, Dr. Bretan has no patient etiquette. I started seeing him after an emergency room visit that determined I had a kidney stone (first one). Was in severe pain, he scheduled to perform surgery to try and retrieve the kidney stone more than a week later. The stone was found to be too large for him to remove, he placed a stent in and had me follow up two weeks. At my follow up appointment he schedule for me to have lithotripsy done two weeks' later. All this time in pain. Once the procedure is done I was scheduled to see him two weeks later and have the stent removed. I went to my appointment and was sent away because he wasn't sure if he had insurance approval to remove it in the office. 3 days later I come back, explain I'm still in pain and was told once the stent was removed I feel a lot better. Still had the pain. My primary care doctor sent me for testing and it was determined I still had the 9mm kidney stone. Contacted him he had me come in to be scheduled for a second lithotrispy two weeks later. Remind you this is already 3 months after my first visit with him still in pain. I have the procedure done. 5 days later I'm still in pain and haven't passed any stone particles. He had me get an ultrasound (which by this time it has been determined the type of kidney stone I have doesn't show up on an ultrasound, and the Radiologist has recommended a CT 3 times already). The kidney stone doesn't appear or has been broken up. I see Dr. Bretan afterwards. He comes into the exam room doesn't even say hello or good day instead states "There's no kidney stone, your pain is all muscular." I ask him then why do I continue to have the same and still haven't passed any of the stone. His response is your kidney stone is gone. The next day I was throwing up, had diarrhea, and a temperature. Left Dr. Bretan a voicemail because his office is closed on Wednesdays. Never returned my phone call. I ended up going to the ER. They treated me and said my symptoms sound like I could still have the kidney stone or the particles of the stone is still there. The next day I call his office and the office staff was informed I had been to the ER but was recommended I contact my primary care doctor because according to the ultrasound the kidney stone is gone. Each visit he never greeted me when entering the room, nor physically examined, or give me a cordial departure. At my last procedure he didn't come into the recovery room to check on me. Four months later I'm still in pain and turned over to my primary care doctor with pending issues. At each visit I waited in the office for 30 - 60 minutes, and was seen for less than 5 minutes and not physically examined. If I had the opportunity to choose another doctor I would. Once I started treatment it was too late.

I have had many doctors just brush off what I was saying and not take into account what I was physically experiencing. Grace is very attentive, forward-thinking and incredibly sharp. She also referred me to fantastic specialists. I trust her opinion on other doctors. I would stay with Grace Hochstoeger forever if I was able but I moved. Dr. Ward has been my primary care physician for more than a decade. He is a better than average…read moredoctor and is very knowledgeable about numerous ailments. He manages his time very well, allowing sufficient time to communicate with patients while keeping waiting times to a minimum. However, due to the tedious bureaucracy in his office, I cannot award him more than three stars. It seems like the people who answer the phones are not around about half the time and the phone line is kicked over to an answering service, which is a guy who does not take messages and simply tells you that the staff is on a two-hour lunch break. Even when they are in the office, it is still hard to communicate. After you go through their phone tree and speak to a live person, requesting to leave a voice mail with your physician's assistant, you have to answer several questions before being transferred to voice mail. On more than one occasion, I have had to leave a message with the desk person that was misinterpreted before it reached the doctor. This may be changing as they have just started a patient portal, which is supposed to expedite communications. I just signed up for it but I'm not very optimistic. It looks much more amateurish than most modern web portals -- more like the ones from 10 to 15 years ago when web portals were in their infancy. When I signed up, there were a couple buttons that didn't work and I could find no technology support for clients. I still haven't figured out how to reach my doctor or his assistant through the portal. If they get the bugs out of the portal and communication improves through this venue, I may have a future update.

I have been looking for a great family practice office for quite awhile. I have been sick with…read morethat crazy bug everyone has been getting and after a couple of weeks I had enough and went in. Kristine was patient, I never felt rushed, I felt heard and she clearly was concerned and helpful. I have had some bad experiences with docs in the area and was told Keri Teran was good so I called in and she did not have any appointments that days and was in turn sent to Ms. Henry. I am so glad I was and I now feel confident I have someone to go see when the need arises. The office staff was friendly and on time. I felt like they really cared about each patient who walked in the door, unlike so many other medical offices around sonoma county where you feel like you are bothering the front desk to get help or an appointment. I am so pleased and will send my whole family there from now on. Thanks to all of you working at Sutter Family Practice for making my otherwise not feeling so good day a little easier.
