I read the online reviews and did not want to go to this vendor. My MD and insurance said I had to. The office was clean, the two staff I interacted with were pleasant and informative. Another company had wanted to mail me my CPAP equipment (am really glad glad I said no) I changed MDs when this suggestion was made.) The therapist went over everything and made sure I understood. Is there a more poorly run company in all of existence? Not just in the state of Arizona? I feel we can all honestly say that the sole reason they are still in business is because they are the only game in town with some insurance providers, especially the state run health plans. They don't care. They aren't timely. You can't really get a hold of anyone. When you do, it is likely after an hour waiting on hold. When you do get to a representative it is mostly 'hurry up and wait' and they move at a snail's pace. They are mostly inept at what they do. You need 1000 different phone numbers to reach the department you need because when you get to where you think you need to be...you get hit with the "I'm going to have to transfer you to another department." All these guys do is pass the buck. I think there needs to be a collective outreach to give parents and caregivers of family needing all of these supplies another option. read more

I have nothing good to say about this company. We have had issues for YEARS with them but we are stuck with them since my special needs daughter's insurance is contracted with them. We learned the hard way that any time an order for diapers, durable medical equipment, formula, etc. gets authorized by insurance, Preferred does absolutely nothing with the order. It will just sit there with them until WE call for status and nudge them along. And then we are met with excuse after excuse, and stating they will fulfill said order. But they do not so we have to call and call again. It took 4 months to fill her diaper order, so I had to purchase them out of pocket. I was lied to, had them place blame on other departments, never call me back when they said they would ...you name it. I've heard it. Now mind you, my daughter is not a new client...she has been with them unfortunately for years so a simple change to her diaper order shouldn't have taken 4 months. Currently, we have been dealing with a car seat order since JULY 2025. We have called them repeatedly about it and got the run around each time. The last excuse for not filling the order was the last gal that was handling it (Linda) no longer works there so it just sat. Due to their ineptness, the insurance authorization has now expired and we have to start all over again. Why should my daughter not get basic necessities and be punished for their lack of care?!!! So just a little advice...follow-up with them often for status checks and document who you talk to and when. Also, check with your insurance company to see when the authorization expires so you don't get stuck starting all over again and waiting another several months. It shouldn't take all this work on my end to get what my daughter needs, but unfortunately it does. I should be on their payroll. Clearly, UHC does not care and either does anyone at Preferred. The incompetence of this company, particularly the back office staff is breathtaking. In January, my mother was being discharged from the hospital and they notified Preferred Homecare that I was the point of contact. When I called to schedule a hospital bed and wheelchair they said I wasn't authorized. Shortly thereafter, the gentleman I spoke to called back to say "oops" yes, you are listed, please call back. I did so within 10 mins of his VM, and explained the issue to the rep. She tells me "you're not listed as POC". OMG! Again, shortly after, they called and left a VM that they now see I am listed as POC. I eventually was able to schedule delivery, but not without issue. I just called to schedule pick up of the equipment and YEP, the POC designation is no longer effective, therefore, either the facility has to call or I have to fax POA docs. I have ZERO faith that this incompetent company would correctly document my POA. Avoid this company at all costs! read more

By far, the WORST DME vendor we have ever had the displeasure of working with. This place is a complete joke when it comes to customer service. They constantly redirect phone calls to other departments that just redirect you back to the original department. So it's a constant loop that eventually ends in being connected to a voicemail that is never checked. They are also the only vendor contracted with UHC AHCCCS plans. So many our patients don't have a choice but to endure the long wait times, unanswered phones calls, and cancelled orders. The intake reps you eventually speak with also illegally state at times that they are not accepting new patients - even though patients with UHC AHCCCS have no other alternative. Literally, not one. Keep in mind, if a vendor is contracted with a particular insurance company, they legally have to accept patients with that particular insurance. Now keep in mind, no amount of complaining online or over the phone will make any difference. What everyone needs to do is to go directly to your insurance to make the complaints. Get them involved because they will begin the investigations into why this company is not fulfilling their contractual obligations. But that's just the first step. Here are some other things that every patient, caregiver, or consumer can do. 1) Gather identifying company info such as National Provider ID (NPI) number and taxonomy. If I could give this company ZERO stars, I would. They were tasked with delivering a medical device and supplies to my hospital room, so I could be discharged. A young man brought a box labeled oxygen tanks to my room and had me sign on his iPad verifying receipt of delivery. I wasn't provided with anything to know what I had signed for. When the case manager opened the box, there was no packing list, paperwork, or any information indicating where it came from, or what should be found inside. The medical device is described as portable. It came in an old nylon case with clasps that appear to be for a shoulder strap, or handle, but there was no strap in the box. A home healthcare nurse came to my home yesterday afternoon to connect me to the medical device. First she needed to charge the device, became the battery was dead. While it was charging she took a thorough inventory of what was in the box. Once she verified that the machine was working satisfactorily, even though the tag attached indicates that it hasn't been inspected or tested for more than 2 months, using some of the supplies in the box she connected it to my surgical site. Now, two days after the box was delivered to the hospital, a flippant young woman just called from the Preferred Homecare main number. Although the office is closed and I couldn't verify her identity, she requested and I gave her my name, my home address, my date of birth, my email address, etc. Everything but my mother's maiden name. Then she started rattling off all of the items that SHOULD HAVE BEEN IN THE BOX. ?????!!!!!! I am not a medical professional and I have no clue what medical supplies she was referring to. And then she started advising me of my liability if the supplies were not properly returned when I'm finished using the device. I mentioned the missing shoulder strap, several times, and she finally said she would make a note of it... I asked her to text me a list of what she believed to be in the box. She said she couldn't do that because she was calling from a business line. What an unprofessional and archaic business. If I had a choice, I would take my medical device needs elsewhere. read more

We had troubles when we first had to start using them a year ago. with broken promises on delivery dates and much more. Preffered homecare billing is the worst. They decide to bill you for APAP filters\hoses 11-12 months after you have received it. Mean while you have already paid other bills with that came in after this date of service. There billing department has always been a mess since day 1. I will never subscribe to there automated delivery process of apap equipment ever again. I will instead go online to amazon or another website and order what is needed. A new level of incompetence. After paying my bill and asking for written confirmation by email (which I never received), I get a collection notice from a debt collector. I called them back and sat on hold for 30 minutes. I was told I have a zero balance. I asked them to please send written confirmation by email as they promised. They now claim they don't have my email. I said OK, I will give it to you, but you must have it since you sent confirmation that my payment was authorized and made. As I was giving them my email, they hung up on me. I certainly hope I will never have to deal with this company again. I have been currently running into issues with the Phoenix Arizona office. For the past few months now and after giving correct address information my urological supplies have been going to the other side of building where I live. I would call only to be put on hold for a long time and only to get no where. As a result I am currently having neurogenic bladder issues. I don't believe that when this place is doing this to its customers it's not providing care needed and is leading to poor quality of care. The worst customer service I've ever experienced. I left the hospital with my wife at 6pm after receiving a call that our home hospital bed was on the way. Nobody showed up. After calling 3 times the following morning, I was told that the delivery would be at 9:30. Again, no show. Keep in mind I have left my wife at the hospital alone since 6pm the night before with two missed deliveries. After my 4th call, I'm told it will be 11:30am. I recently went to Preferred Home Care for a CPAP fitting. Had some apprehensions because of the mixed reviews I saw on Yelp. However, my experience couldn't have been better. I was seen shortly after my appointment time and could not have had a better experience with technician Angelica. She was friendly, caring, patient and so helpful throughout. God forbid you ever need oxygen or any other life saving medication from them as they are never on time and in my case week(s) (not a type o) yes weeks late not hours lol. The whole experience is hilarous. You call in to reorder oxygen, they are always so nice on the phone by the way, and then you wait for the delivery which never comes. You then must call them and ask where oxygen is and they have no record of you needing the order, so they then make a note and let you know it will be tomorrow...always tomorrow but they only service new river on Monday. Needless to say my buddies and I will be looking into starting a similar business and our company mission statement will be simple. "We dont lie, we know when your loved one is facing death and needs life saving medical equipment, we will bring it to you. People over profit. We won't pay minimum wage like our competitor. We realize you get what you pay for in this life. Bottom dollar brings bottom workers. No room for skimping in the Healthcare industry. In we make a mistake with your life saving equipment we won't sugar coat it. We will treat you like family and run it over to you ASAP that day or night, not in 2 weeks." It's nearly impossible to have "customer service" as bad as Preferred Homecare by accident. Honestly they have to be putting in extra effort to be as bad as they can possibly be and they're excelling at it. They have, so far, missed every promise of delivery. Today is strike number three. Whenever I call it's always tomorrow. The only thing they provide is lies at least as near as I can tell. I have called my Medicare Advantage provider, the hospital (who hates them) and Medicare who gave me the number of a QIO. I called the QIO and told them I wanted them investigated since I had difficulty believing that they were an approved provider since, so far, they have only provided lip service. I don't know if their cage can be rattled enough for them to fix their extremely deep seated problems but they're certainly answering a lot of questions. Next stop is the BBB but probably not until tomorrow. I've spent enough BTUs on them today. As many others here have said they don't even rate one star but that's as low as it goes. read more

I do not recommend Preferred - if you are being discharged from a hospital, please consider another company. Be prepared to wait on hold for 45 mins on average to speak to someone and if you get transferred, be prepared to wait again. The gal I initially spoke with to inquire about which of our items were rentals and which insurance outright paid for would not speak to me without a Durable Power of Attorney which I emailed immediately. She said she would call back once it was in their system. I had to call and follow up and the gal I spoke with never called back after repeated messages that I left. Customer service is hit or miss but mostly miss. We tried to schedule a pick up for our rented bed from a group home. It was supposed to be picked up the next day - it wasn't. When I finally got through, customer service said it was a missed pick up and that I had to call back to reschedule. Someone is there 24/7 because it is a group home. Are you kidding me?! I have to call back because your people missed picking it up?! The person who is taking our place can't have their bed delivered until ours is removed. It has been a week now. So frustrating! Since the bed is rented for a month at a time, they have their money. read more

My current experience is about typical when dealing with Preferred. A prescription for new batteries for my power chair was sent to them on July 30. I called on August 27 and they told me they would start the order. The tech call a couple of days later to confirm the problem. This company is next level incompetence. Unfortunately, it's the DME vendor that is contracted with my special needs brother's insurance plan. We have been trying to get an order completed since July and due to their incompetence for months and zero follow through it has been delayed. I can't even describe on here how incompetent these people how. It's next level and they literally do not care about the patients at all. They do bare minimum and try to find anything under the sun to get you off the phone. They will straight up lie or give out wrong info to just get you off the phone so they don't have to do anything to solve the problem. They never submitted clinical notes with a prior auth for months and that's why it continued to be denied. It should have been a simple process. I've made about 37 follow up calls between Preferred, the doctor's, and the insurance company. And the only reason I was calling to follow up with the insurance company and the doctor's office was Preferred kept blaming them. And after extensive follow up it was found that Preferred continued to submit the prior auth request incorrectly. After checking with an alleged supervisor the auth was submitted correctly and approved in the less than 2 weeks (after continual screw ups from Preferred since July). Then once I reviewed the prior auth from his insurance portal I called Preferred to schedule the delivery. However, 3 different people continued to tell me it was denied. I tried telling them I'm literally looking at the approval. I offered to fax it to them but supposedly they couldn't accept it that way. It took them 52 minutes of arguing with me and 3 people later to finally locate the approval on their end. What if my brother didn't have anyone to advocate for him? It would have just been assumed this essential, life sustaining equipment was denied. That was last week. I called back today because delivery has still not been set up and lady that answered the phone told me "the order" has to be sent back to the insurance company which is an outright lie and inaccurate information. And she was rude and trying to get me off the phone again. She acted as if I'm bothering them by following up. But if they could do their job right then I wouldn't have to call them. They will just say anything to get people off the phone. I actually worked for this insurance company for many years and am therefore very familiar with the prior auth process. I've been a nurse for 20 years and therefore have also been dealing with Preferred in my professional life for a very long time (not just my private life). And even in all those years I have heard nothing but horrible experiences from coworkers and patients. It's insane that insurance companies even contract with them with the amount of grievances they have. It's deeply disturbing and unbelievable. If you or your loved ones are able to use a different DME company please do. It's almost like they just hire anyone off the streets who are not properly trained and literally do not care about their work. I feel so bad for people who have to use this company that have nobody to advocate for them. If only I could give zero stars I would. I live in Glendale, Arizona, and this review is for Preferred Home Care. I have been dealing with this company for Ostomy supplies for seven years. Suddenly they are God awful. You are on the phone forever waiting for someone to answer, and once they do, each agent has trouble looking up your records or has lost prior information about this or that. They always lose your prescription, or say it isn't written right, constantly changing the rules each year for how it should be written. They nit pick every aspect of the prescription, so you have to continually have the doctor rewrite it just right, and then once the office faxes it over, they can't find it in their records anyway, and you have to start over. Then they can't find the products you need, and stumble over each and every order. I have lost hours of my life dealing with these idiots, and just now got off the phone with a supervisor, because now you need to show what quantity you might be ordering for each product on the prescription. NEGATIVE 500 STARS. My terminally ill mother was waiting at home for her oxygen delivery. She heard the knock at the door, and made her way to the door. By the time she got there- the person delivering was driving down the street. She called to see if they would turn around so she could have oxygen for her chemotherapy appointment the next day. They told her "absolutely not" and to call back the next day to see if they could deliver that day. So now she has to reschedule her chemotherapy appointment since she is unable to leave her home without a portable oxygen tank. I'm a doctor myself, and I when I tell you the reputation of this negligent company is poor, believe me. Avoid at all costs. I have contacted them numerous times for follow up and scheduling without success to date (three weeks and counting). Today I reached another call representative to learn that I am now responsible for purchasing the walker outright - even though I contacted them within hours of delivery that it needed to be returned. The phone rep informed me that since I have had it for some time now, their policy cannot take it back....even though they have failed to pick it up on six separate pick up attempts that I had scheduled with them.
