We had a spring break, so my wife signed up online for a quote. The person who came out was polite and knowledgeable but the quote was $1300 and spring repair at a local competitor is $249! When I brought this up he fumbled through some excuses but then charged me $139 JUST FOR THE QUOTE! He only spent 5 minutes looking at it! We were only peripherally aware we were signing up for this charge since we thought the quote would comparable to other local companies, but being more than 10x the price, it feels very much like a scam, and they wouldn't give me a break. Garage door motor quit working and Precision came out promptly. We had a coupon for $119.95 to cover the service fee, but turns out that only applies if you have a repair. So, it cost us $119.95 for the technician to tell us that the RPM sensor was broken, but he couldn't be sure that was the only problem. He suggested that we call Chamberlain about the warranty. Long story short, this unit has an AC travel module rather than an RPM sensor and the warranty was expired (10 year old unit). So, we ordered the part off Amazon and installed it and it didn't work. Meanwhile, Precision sent us two different quotes for $1100 for a new motor and belt drive. We called around and got two estimates for a new motor/belt drive and found we could get into a new opener for about $500 (which we did). Incidentally, Precision came out about a year ago as our garage door was not opening/closing correctly, and replaced the rollers on the door after telling us that we would need a new garage door and that the braces would likely be torn from the door if we didn't replace it (interestingly the technician this time stated that our door looked great). While the technicians are always friendly and seem knowledgeable, ultimately I think they try to upsell us and worse, provide inaccurate assessments/information. We had to do the legwork and repair on this job and they still charged us $119.95. Suffice it to say, Precision will not be our first, second or last call when/if there's a next time... read more
