If you're on this page and looking at Yelp reviews of Precision CrossFit, then you're probably like I was eight months ago: someone looking to make a change. If that's true about you, then I can sincerely say that Precision CrossFit is exactly the change you are looking for.
I'd never done any weight training at all before coming to CrossFit. None. Running was my main form of exercise.
Looking to make a change, I figured that I needed to dive head first into these total-body workouts instead of just relying solely on cardio. So, with that in mind, I knew I was attracted to CrossFit's emphasis on proper technique and close supervision with an instructor to help prevent injury.
You may research CrossFit and say, "I can't do that! I'll embarrass myself even trying next to all these incredibly fit people!" Well, here's how it was for me. Coming in as a blank slate in January 2016, just about every movement and every workout had to be tailored to my level at first, and I had to be taught every lifting technique from the ground up. I could barely do push ups, couldn't even do pull ups; I only thought "clean" was something I wanted to be and "jerk" was something I didn't.
(By the way, even after my very first workout, scaled down as it was, I could barely drive home because my arms had never taken such a beating before!)
Slowly and over time, you can rely less on these modifications and get up to speed with everyone else.
But, even in the class setting and with other people working out, the instructors will work with you and give you the attention you need so that you progress at a reasonable pace and without injury. It's pretty remarkable how the teachers can give such detailed feedback to everyone. And even the CrossFit veterans constantly get tips on their technique or how to improve. No matter what level they are at, everyone is getting better, and everyone is pushing themselves--that's really the CrossFit ethos in a nutshell.
Now, about eight months later, I am definitely up to speed and can follow almost all of the workouts and have the basic weightlifting techniques down (there are a few movements I'm still not strong enough to do yet, like handstand pushups and other advanced things).
So if you are like I was and don't know anything about weight lifting, then rather than avoid CrossFit, this is undoubtedly the gym you should join.
In other ways, too, Precision CrossFit is awesome for improving your health, since you can get nutrition consultation that aligns with your current and desired fitness levels. And, the extremely nice, friendly, and supportive people that workout here are just as much an asset as any other part of the gym. For instance, when you've got a whole class that includes such diverse people as me (a 23 year old guy) then a 16 year old high school kid, and a pregnant woman (you read that right), and a 60 year old man all bonding over how we all got our asses kicked by a workout, well that's a uniquely positive experience. It's instant cameraderie.
All of the teachers are fantastic (Jose was my first teacher, and he's awesome), the equipment is great, and their class times are convenient.
So, if this review has gotten you a little more interested in Precision CrossFit, try a free week (I think they still have that kind of offer) and see how you like it. It will be the toughest week, for sure, but you'll finish each class knowing you really pushed yourself to new levels of fitness. read more
