One of the many things I liked about him was his attentiveness and willingness to help. I will definitely will take more of his classes in the near future. About the space: It's such a welcoming environment and both the owner and front desk associate greeted me upon arrive, with a water bottle (because they knew I was running late) and warm smiles. They offer so many classes throughout the day that it's hard to NOT find the time to go. The instructors are amazing and Teri (owner/director) is extremely warm and welcoming. This is my FAVORITE yoga studio! Also, if you sign up on their website, the first class is $5 and you'll receive 20% off a class package if you decide to purchase one immediately following your first class. Groupon users also get 20% off their next class package (woohoo!). 10-class packages are $150, 20-class packages are $275, 1-month unlimited is $180, and 3-month unlimited is $449 before the discount. Single classes are normally $18 each (or $15 for the 60 min classes held at 1pm on weekdays). ____ STUDIO ____ The main studio is gorgeous and hip with skylights and windows that look out into a forest-like courtyard. It's also one of the most spacious studio I have ever come across (the other one is the 34th Street Herald Square hot yoga studio). During mid-day, you can have as little as 4 students in the studio. I have never seen more than 20 students in one class yet. During the summer, they have the AC on. The Pilates class are usually in the small open space between the main studio and the women's changing room. (Men have a little curtained off booth in the open area to change.) There are two bathrooms behind the stairs, equipped with paper cups by the sink if you get thirsty. ____ YOGA ____ For yoga, there's the beginner's Hatha Basic (75 min), the intermediate Basic Vinyasa (75 min), the more advanced and open Vinyasa (90 min), Mixed Levels (90 min), Prenatal, and Parent/Baby Yoga. Rosie, Naomi, Robin, and Hunt are my absolute favorites but I have also taken classes from others and immensely enjoyed them. I choose classes based on the time rather than the instructor or the level. The advanced yoga classes were initially intimidating since they are usually attended by seasoned yogis. I got over it quickly since it really is a judgement-free zone and the instructors are extremely encouraging and understanding. The classes are open to all levels but I would recommend attending at least a few Hatha classes or a Mixed Levels class before challenging yourself to a Vinyasa class if you are new. I love the Hatha classes. There isn't much of a flow in these classes. The class focuses on deepening your stretches so that you understand which muscles are being activated in each pose. I have learned to love and appreciate yoga through these classes and always gravitate towards taking them when my schedule permits! I wish they had more of the intermediate Basic Vinyasa classes though. These are only offered ~3x a week. Yoga mat rentals are $1. The studio provides blocks, straps, and blankets to maximize muscle engagement. ____ PILATES ____ For pilates, Megan teaches a kickass class that leaves your core and hamstrings sore for days. They provide thicker mats and use a different strap. _________________ Remember to take your shoes off after coming up the stairs onto the 2nd floor, have your key card scanned, and have fun! There's no need to sign up online beforehand, which I love! I enter PSYC stressed and leave feeling lighter and more relaxed. If I had to choose between taking a yoga class and getting a full body massage, I would definitely pick yoga!
