I have worked with Prairie Power Center for years, but in the last year or so, the counter people have gotten so rude and condescending that I don't even want to go there anymore. They have a good selection but they are much more expensive than other stores. Now that other stores like Ace and Farm & Fleet carry Stihl and other great brands, there is no reason to go there. read more

If I could give them 0 stars I would! I purchased a mower and it had obviously been dropped as the wheel was damaged, although it was difficult to see until I mowed for several seconds. I returned it for a replacement and was told since I mowed I could not return it. They said they would have noticed it if they built it, however, this option was never given to me. Their solution was to give me a used wheel to put on myself. This mower was obviously dropped and I am concerned there will be more issues in the future. I wanted to help a small business instead of going to a big box store, but I will never go to this place again. I am making others aware of their poor business practices and encouraging they buy their mower elsewhere. By the way they also charge 2% for credit card purchases. read more

My dad and I went to look at a couple of used mowers with baggers on April 20th. He was in town from Milwaukee and was looking for a used mower for the cottage. We spoke to a sales guy about a price on a used Simplicity that was not marked. He said it was between $700 and $1000. I said I'd be back the next day to compare it to a larger Simplicity that was already marked at $1999. I went back on the 21st and met with a different sales guy, who now said the price was $1300! Besides that, the front tires are nearly bald and he said that they would not replace them even though they only have about a season left to them. He also seemed very put out, like I was wasting his time trying to do research on these two mowers before we would buy them (getting hours, checking the engine, tires, etc.) So if you want varying prices and lackluster salespeople who have better things to do than let you research and ask questions on used mowers, and you want a used mower that's priced the same as a new mower elsewhere, then PPC is your place to shop. We decided to go elsewhere. read more

Bought a chainsaw here. I knew most of the features I wanted. Walked up to the saws and had help within a couple of minuets. Staff member was knowledgeable, honest, and talked in simple terms. Told me the features that drove the price difference between the saws and let me choose what I wanted. He setup the saw and I walked out the door with my saw within 30 minuets. If you want a place that stands behind what they sell, don't go here. You'll save yourself money and headaches by getting your new lawnmower at Home-Depot. My folks bought a new Toro FROM PRAIRIE POWER CENTER 2 weeks ago and used the machine 2 times. The self propelled unit quit working. We took the mower back to them and they looked it over. Then they fixed the drive unit and charged my dad $50.00 for the repair. Two things wrong here. 1. Wisconsin AG Act #132 states that you cannot do repair work to a persons equipment without prior authorization. So basicly you can't spend somebody's money without prior approval. My dad never signed a repair order or authorized any charges. 2. Warranty? It's 2 weeks old and they sold it. They claimed that my dad hit something with the mower, but I didn't see any signs of impact. If he bought the thing at Home Depot (or other retail store), they would have exchanged it for another unit. Prairie Power Center didn't care that a loyal customer was angry. My dad has bought equipment there for a few years. Loyalty means nothing to these clowns. I'd rather mow Miller Park with a Ginsu knife before buying anything from that place. Crooks. read more

Very disappointed - I guess Open until 5:30 means only if you feel like it on a Friday. I called ahead for a fuel line and carb for a line trimmer told the gentleman on the phone I'd be right down to which he said we close at 5:30, I'll have it on the counter for ya. I didn't realize the road from the east was closed so got delayed as I had to go another route. I arrived at 5:14 pm. lights out and closed on the sign that has the hours right next to it open until 5:30. I pulled to the west of the building to see if anyone was there when an employee walked out the front door and did everything to avoid me and got into a tan pickup truck. Sometimes I wonder why I choose to buy local and help the small town business instead of going to big box stores or buying online. I'll choose to patronize businesses with good service and ones that want my business. read more

I've taken my stuff their for years and have always had good experiences. I realize that sometimes they get backed up (when there are 100 people all needing lawn mower work in April--thats like walking into a full service restaurant at 6pm on a Friday and why they don't have space! lol...). That's why I get regular maintenance done (like a car) and avoid unexpected breakdowns. If I can do the work myself, I'll go there for parts and take care of it. read more

I had them take my mower in to be serviced. At the time the electric start at least turned over. When I got it back the electric start no longer worked at all. When I contacted them about that they said they only fix what's broken. They don't check on anything beyond that. Seriously!!! I bought this mower from them. Apparently that doesn't mean anything. read more

My fiancé needed a repair on our mower. He took it in this past Monday and was told that it would be no problem for repairs and they would call him back in a couple of days. He ended up calling this morning and the service manager was not even aware that he had dropped anything off for a repair! We will not be getting anything serviced here again. read more

Our chainsaw has been serviced here for years. However, our latest experience has us wondering if we should look elsewhere. Thursday at 3:24 p.m. I received a call that the saw was ready. I asked the store hours and said I would pick it up on Saturday -- great they closed at noon. When I arrived at 11:42 p.m. the store was already closed. Three other customers pulled up after me and had the same discovery. I tried to call but couldn't leave a voice message because it was full. Needless to say, aside from the waisted time and gas there was no work done with the saw that weekend. I called the store on Tuesday (after the holiday) and asked to speak with a manager. I explained the experience and he said that the person I spoke with "must have forgotten that they would be closed." He said there was a sign on the door -- if it was there, it wasn't very noticeable. There was no offer of a discount on the service charge for the inconvenience....nothing. read more

Not customer service oriented at all. Took 4 weeks to repair my riding lawn mower, even after the promised 3 weeks, which is far too long anyway. Why can't they just expand their service staff to accommodate normal summer business increases? So my mower went in, sat there for over 3 weeks and then was repaired in only 2 working hours. I googled Prairie Power Center to get their phone number, and was really disappointed with the review of a former customer, who complained that PPC gave bad service to his father regarding his lawn mower. He stated that Home Depot would have replaced his father's lawnmower after two weeks of use, and that the mower didn't hit anything....? Does this sound fishy to you?? I have purchased numerous pieces of equipment from both Middleton and Prairie Power, and have always gotten excellent service! I'm talking leaf blowers to walk-behind brushmowers and tractor pull-behind equipment, and they have always backed me up with their product knowledge and fast service. The guys att PPC and MPC have a no-bullshit attitude, and deal from the top of the deck. Maybe sonny-boy got the hots for the checkout girls at Home Depot. Hey dad, at least hold up your end of the bargain and sign the paperwork. These folks pay a lot $$ in product liability insurance every year, and you're not willing to sign a work order???? Keep it going at PPC and MPC -- you guys are great!! read more
