We are a group of ladies that travel on Tuesdays to different courses to play. We are all league players and play 3-5 times a week. Today we gave Praire Isle a try. We had lots of rain last night so we called ahead to verify the course was open for play with cart path availability. The person who answered was put off by my question. Very condescending. Stating "what are you talking about?" It is fine there is no water. NOT TRUE. (90 degree which is fine, but...A good golf course manager would NOT have allowed carts on the course with as much water they had. There were 2 sets of three players with our group and the men ahead of us were extremely slow so the men behind us were pushing us and hitting into us. The course was very wet, greens were in need of repair, and water in the sand traps. It is sad that so many golf courses like this one feel women should NOT be golfing. This is how this course made us feel. It is sad that this course does not make a real effort to welcome EVERYONE that comes out to play. (It's income for your club!) We will not be playing this course again. The only person there that we enjoyed was the beverage cart girl. She was awesome.

Fun and challenging at the same time! Course could be in better condition (divot replacement) but greens were in top condition!

I play this course at least 10 times a year - a real mixed bag....here's the details:…read more Course Layout: 2 Stars - weird set up (If you're a guy who can regularly shoot under 100...play the tips) start with a 220yd par 4...an average golfer can drive the green with a 3 wood...3 short par 5's all under 500 from the tips, easily reachable in 2 - another 260yd par4, and a 95 yard par 3....par 37, 2800 yards.....your 18 hole score should be 5-10 strokes lower here than on a regular par 72 course. Course Condition: 2 Star - the place is a cow pasture, fairways like playing on your lawn, gnats later in the year follow you around...hole 6 ALWAYS a swamp, plug your ball IN THE FAIRWAY almost any time of year. Greens the highlight - slow, but in good shape. Ease/Pace of play: 4 stars - I walk weekend mornings and am usually off in 3 hours...not usually too crowded - there've been days when I've played in afternoons and hackers in jorts and t-shirts will spray one into your fairway, but almost always an under 4 hour round. VERY easy course to walk...really don't need a cart. Cost: 3 stars - when I walk on a Sat morning, costs me $22 bucks - a cheap price to swing a club for a few hours - BUT brought the wife one afternoon for a relaxing day of sun and whacking the ball around - was @$80 for 2 riding...for a couple bucks more could have played Pinecrest or Crystal Woods....real courses - OR could have played Craig Woods for less, and that's in MUCH better shape. I would never pay for a cart here. Atmosphere: 5 stars - nice people....the guy who usually lets me in early in the morning always friendly....If you get there too early - have a sign that says "Golf Now, Pay Later" and you pay after your 1st 9...it is the definition of no frills, (no bar/food), "Clubhouse" is a tin giant shed, but would be a perfect place to start a beginning golfer off. For me, waking up at the crack of dawn on a weekend, my round here ALWAYS relaxes me and lets me forget about the past week...and gets me home in time to enjoy the rest of my day.

First of all it is 38$ to play nine holes here at this place and that is more expensive then most…read moreof the nicer courses around here at this course. The workers were very rude to us and made us pay extra for a course that should only be 15$ at most. They do not manage the course and the greens are like putting on fairways at any other course in the world. Also the fairways are in horrible condition. We were also constantly being trailed by the ranger just because we were thinking is was bs to pay 38 dollars for this course. I really do not recommend coming to this place.

As a side note, I learned the game of golf on this very course as a child, and we always came for Christmas to meet Santa and Mrs. Claus. I was never much for golf myself, but I enjoyed the environment and amenities growing up, and the atmosphere still holds up to this day. Back to the here and now, the service was spot on. The food was presented quickly (buffet style), and refilled until everyone was satisfied. Water refills? Check. Friendly staff? Check. The potatoes were some of the best I've had, and the green beans were cooked just right. The meatloaf was a bit dry, but covered in gravy so not a big issue. The only downside was the fried chicken which seemed underdone to me, But others enjoyed it so maybe I picked the wrong leg. The bathrooms are always clean here, and the fancy hand towels feel like a luxury in the era of "thinner is cheaper" paper towels that disintegrate before your hands are dry. Overall it's still a nice club and a lovely venue for parties. If your unsure you can book a tour, so it's worth a look.
