I started seeing Dr. Waters recently. I have a host of issues (mold, chemical sensitivities, issues due to allergy to an implant) and I am traditionally a very difficult patient to treat. My doctor stopped taking virtual appointments and I was looking for an expert, especially to treat my mold issues. Dr. Waters took a thorough history, ordered appropriate tests, and got to the core of my issue quickly. She worked with me on a treatment plan appropriate to my many sensitivities. We've only been working together a short time, but I feel better than I have in a few years. (My response to Dr. Waters comment will be at the end of this review. It was sent as a message to her and I don't know how to make it public.) I went to see Dr. Waters last week to try to naturally heal my low ferritin and Hashimoto's. She seemed eager to help me, even after I had told her over the phone when I was scheduling my appointment, that money was very limited. Well, I arrived a few minutes early and there was nobody to greet me in the office. I waited until my appointment time and then decided to try to call Dr. Waters to make sure I was there at the correct time. She didn't answer. I waited a few more minutes and she was still not there. I called again and there was no answer. When she finally arrived (about 5 minutes late), there was no mention of being late, no apology, nothing. The reason I questioned my appointment time was because I had received a reminder email a couple days before my appointment, and it had a different time listed than what she had told me over the phone. I went there hoping to find out the root cause of my issues if possible, and to find out what lifestyle changes I could make to see results. Well, with a couple minutes of being there she started telling me what supplements she wanted me on, and that I would need to stop taking the things I already took. She said she would go ahead and set them all aside for me and make a pile of what I would need, and make an online shopping cart to see what the total would be. All the while knowing money was very tight. When all was said and done, she wanted to sell me about $250 worth of supplements! And most of that would only be a 30 day supply. One of the supplements she wanted me to take was for a suspected bacterial infection (which I honestly don't think I have after talking with another doctor), was juniper berries. She was informed that I am currently breastfeeding and that we aren't preventing pregnancy. I ended up buying the juniper berries because she had made me feel like I really needed them. When I got home I researched if they were safe while pregnancy and breastfeeding. A lot of sources weren't clear on breastfeeding, but they are definitely not safe while pregnant. If I had gotten pregnant while taking them, it very likely would have ended my pregnancy. Another thing that was very awkward was when I was paying for my appointment. I knew she had told me it would be $225, so I made sure and had that. Then she said $280, which is apparently her rate at some of her offices. I waited a few seconds and had to remind her of the correct rate. She apologized, but it was awkward to have to correct her. So with all of that being said, I can't recommend Dr. Waters to anyone. I even reached out to Dr. Waters giving her a chance to apologize for these things and to possibly give a refund or partial refund. She never responded at all. "I emailed you last Tuesday and had mentioned all of this. I never got a response. Then I sent another email yesterday morning and still got no response. Also, I never called for directions. I was calling from inside of your office waiting for you to arrive. So I understand that you might run late with patients, but you weren't even in the office yet, so it wasn't like you were in a room with someone. As for all the details in my treatment plan...there wasn't much in there. It really only talked about what supplements you claim that I need. No mention of further testing, root cause, dietary changes...nothing. You mentioned wanting to discuss this over the phone or in person, but email is how I wish to handle this, as I stated in the email I sent 8 days ago. When I went to visit Joan, I was very sick. I had been searching for a naturopathic doctor that had a focus in gastroenterology and also one that was SLIDING SCALE as I was hardly working due to my illness. I went online and, even though I live in Denver, decided to make an appointment with Joan. Her profile on the website that I visited said that she specialized in gastroenterology and that she had a sliding scale payment option. The only word I can use to describe my experience with Joan is chaotic. She seemed to be doing a lot of guess work as to what was wrong with me and not coming up with a real plan for treatment. In the end, she prescribed me some vitamin B-12 shots. She also prescribed me some fatty acids and a multivitamin. She took some blood as well. My appointment lasted less than an hour and I did not feel at all satisfied that I was walking out of there with any answers. When it came time to pay, she informed me that her initial visit cost is 250 dollars. When I asked about the website that had her listed as sliding scale, she seemed confused and somewhat appalled at the idea. In the end, (with help from my mother) I ended up paying almost 400 dollars. After a week and a half I called to see about my blood test results. She couldn't remember who I was and took quite a while finding my chart. She informed me that the results were not in yet and she would call me back when they were. I never heard back from Joan for about four months until she called me a few weeks ago to see if I wanted to schedule another appointment with her. When I told her I had found someone to treat me that is closer to Denver, she seemed disheartened. All in all, I felt that I needed to babysit my experience and the only reason I am finally writing this review is because this has been bothering me for months. read more

Dr. Waters is amazing! Never have I spent a good amount of time with a doctor who truly cares about me and what I am going through. Going to see a naturopath or any other alternative practitioner isn't cheap but these services are well worth the money. I really feel that Dr. Waters makes sure you get the most out of your time and money. Not to take away from the other person's review/experience (because everyone likes something different and that's perfectly fine) but I really enjoy the thought process that Dr. Waters puts into figuring out what may be wrong. It's way better than my experience with another Dr. here in town that barely listened to me and didn't take any time to think about any possibilities. I've gotten more answers from Dr. Waters in the short time that I've been seeing her than I have from doctors my whole life. I definitely recommend her! read more

Extremely inappropriate and unprofessional woman. Texted me several times over a WEEKEND, refusing to identify her name or what practice she was calling from, although I kept asking her who she was! She did not qualify herself or talk about anything other than money, money, and money. I needed to know WHO she was, and if she was someone who's practice matched my need. Although she was an unidentified stranger, I told her I was looking for a Gastroenterologist exam, not a phone appointment with a stranger who doesn't work with any M.D. She ignored this and went back to practically demanding a credit card to have on file or a check, in order to give me a phone appointment, which I didn't want!! For a professional to refuse and lie about her identity, and obsessively talk about money, is absolutely absurd. She sounded intoxicated. I had to investigate to find out that it WAS in fact dr. Waters who was texting me. I had to trace the number and talk to other Naturopaths to find out if they were the ones who were contacting me. Thanks to a different Naturopath who helped me, I found out that it was Dr. Waters. I've never heard of a professional behaving like this. I believe this woman may be a substance abuser, or perhaps just mentally distressed. When I told her that I would never send an unidentified stranger money, she actually became childishly defensive about, of course, that I wouldn't pay her. All she spoke about was money, and the bizarre behavior and greed was unbelievable. I plan to report her behavior and text messages to the board of Naturapathic physicians due to a breach of ethical behavior. read more

I would not recommend Dr. Waters. I don't believe she is competent to deal with complex issues as she is very disorganized and made recommendations multiple times that were inconsistent. She is very data oriented, but doesn't seem to know what to do with it all. She ordered lab work for tests that I had brought recent result for which wasted my money. She ordered things which she later admitted wouldn't be completely accurate given the diet I had been on. $1300 dollars later and a chaotic, disorganized and inconsistent treatment plan I gave up. I'm seeing an ND in Boulder who is competently treating me for a fraction of the cost. Dr Waters is a pleasant woman who I believe means well, but my treatment was very expensive and ineffective. read more

Joan at Practical Health Solutions is great. She is very thorough, seeks to really get to know you as a person from a holistic perspective before offering thoughts on healing. I was thoroughly impressed when I had to complete a survey before my first visit with her that took me over four hours to complete. She asked many questions that the numerous doctors I had previously seen did not ask me anything about myself before I saw them in the office for my 15 minute appointment. Instead, Joan had reviewed the comprehensive survey for our first meeting, which lasted over 90 minutes. Even though she can sometimes seem disorganized, she is very thorough and knowledgeable. She understands costs associated with healthcare and offers suggestions of tests, but always allows you to make the final decision of what you want to have done. She also is open to trying to get the best value for your money. She has been fine if I say I want to have a test done elsewhere to try to have it in-network for my insurance or if I want to buy supplements from her or elsewhere. I really appreciate that. In sum, she is great and thorough, especially if you are someone dealing with gut issues or SIBO (bacterial overgrowth) in particular. I wish I had gone to her in the first place! read more
