I was referred by my VIPMD to a pulmonologist, Dr. James Hoyt, for a follow-up overnight sleep apnea test. The test revealed that I have "severe sleep apnea"and am having "31 sleep apnea incidents on the average per hour." I immediately called Dr. Hoyt's number and was told that a prescription was indicated and imminent. That was on a Friday early afternoon. Monday morning, I called the facility that would be supplying the cpap that was clearly indicated. I have been on the phone with the distribution facility, Lincare- Fort Collins-and Dr. Hoyt's office about this presciption for a device that will help me receive enough oxygen when I'm asleep. Two days, over six phone calls, and I finally received a call from a nurse who informed me that His Eminence, James Hoyt, had approved the prescription that should have been approved proactively on Friday, May 10, when the results of the test were released. I get allergy shots once a month and the Allergy Partners staff was very helpful in coordinating my arrival as a new patient coming from California, including getting my records and allergy serum sent over to them before I arrived in Colorado. I've unfortunately had several flare ups of my asthma in the past year, but the doctors have been very helpful in developing a plan to manage flare-ups and they are willing to try out multiple treatments of what they originally tried does not work. I really appreciate also that they provide samples of medications and other allergen-friendly products to help with costs. Most of the nurses who give allergy shots are great and despite my difficult insurance company, I've never had any issues with billing. I love that when I arrive for a shot I never have to wait more than 5 minutes - in my previous experience with Kaiser in California it could take a half hour before you were even called in!
