I have been going to Stephanie's for several years now. Even though, I moved away and now live on the west coast, I still make a point to always make an appointment every time I come to town. She is a true magician. I am not sure how she does it, but every time I leave I feel amazing. Not only relaxed in the body but also in mind. She has resolved misalignments and chronic pain. I feel more present and grounded in my body. I have not been able to find anyone else who would even come close to Stephanie's skills. read more

Just an update - June will mark two years of my steady monthly visits to Stephanie. I stand by my original review - she's the best!

I first went to Stephanie when my little one was a couple of months old (and I had a toddler too) - I was physically and emotionally drained/sore/you-name-it. Stephanie put her hands on me and I felt the tension melt away. It was almost magical. No actually it WAS magical! She was incredible in every way - in her energy as well as the way she could really work my muscles but never doing anything too hard either. We miss her in Brooklyn, so you're lucky to have her Philly! read more

The best massage I've ever had. Stephanie is wonderful, and very intuitive. She's not a by the numbers therapist, she takes the time to find out where your problems lie and deals with the cause of pain not just the parts that hurt. I plan on being a regular. read more

The best massage I have ever gotten. She works miracles. I always leave feeling fantastic.

I am so thankful for the treatment that I received!!! I walked in the office a horrific mess, and Stephanie showed her concern and learned what the issue was that I was having and in four short weeks, my body responded to the gentle, yet firm work that she was putting into it. My recovery was felt within the first visit, and continuously improved with each visit. I am so thankful for her assistance. read more

I can't believe I forgot to leave a review after my last session... time to rectify that right away! I was in excruciating neck/shoulder pain, and it was making it hard to work, sleep, and even breathe. I was worried about finding a new massage therapist, and really needed a quick fix in time for an upcoming performance, which is totally the wrong way to go about things, I know. Still, Stephanie worked out an appointment for me right away, even in the midst of a snowstorm, and was absolutely amazing in every way. She was supportive, compassionate, and managed to find the source of my pain and work things out to the point that I could take a full breath for the first time in days. She even gave me exercises to do to prevent this problem from reappearing, and was so generous with her time and advice. To top things off, she was so supportive of my upcoming performance (which I don't think I could have even stood through if not for her) that she even came to see it! She was worth every penny, and I'm beyond relieved to find someone so skilled and wonderful in my area. It's an expense that I know can make people nervous (I certainly don't have a lot of cash to spare as a freelance singer), but with Stephanie, I can feel confident that it is a worthwhile investment into my health and wellbeing, that I should take advantage of any time I can. I cannot recommend her enough, for issues of particular pain or just general body maintenance, and I think I'll go ahead and put my money where my mouth is and schedule another appointment right now! read more

Stephanie maintains a comfortable and relaxing space. She is a kind and considerate practitioner. I am not an easy person to work on or to please where massage is concerned, as my back has given me a lot of trouble for many years, and I have additional painful areas in my neck and knees. Stephanie provided a competent, mild-moderate deep-tissue session. My pain was improved overall by @ 70% when the massage was over, and today (the day after) I still have less pain and better range of motion in my neck than I usually do. read more

I have been going to Stephanie at Practical Bodywork regularly for a few years ever since I was diagnosed with spondylitis. At first, massage seemed like a luxury, but now I view it as a necessity in terms of pain management and general well-being. Stephanie is an amazing practitioner, and a kind and compassionate person, as well. No matter how frazzled and achey I feel going in, I always leave as if I'm floating on air. I would recommend her to anyone who is looking for quality massages, especially those looking to mange chronic conditions. read more

I first started going to Stephanie when she was at Balance and am glad she is somewhere nearby now that she's gone into business for herself. She makes you feel comfortable, doesn't rush you, and the only stressful part is when you think the end of the hour is nearing ...! read more

If you're looking for a massage therapist... look no further! Stephanie does amazing work with everyone from me, who has run-of-the-mill shoulder stress to my mom, who battles a chronic illness. Her knowledge coupled with her ability to relieve my shoulder soreness and tension was amazing. I will absolutely be returning! I entered her office, which is located in her home (where there is free street parking!), and was in one of the warmest and welcoming environments you could imagine. She then went over what I was looking for and approached her work thoughtfully. As she worked, she made sure that the pressure was alright and that I was comfortable. She checked in after the massage as well. It was the perfect balance of warmth and professionalism that's needed to do this work. Afterward, my neck, shoulders and the rest of my body were in perfect alignment. As I mentioned, I was recommended to her by mother, who suffers from chronic arthritis. My mom refers to Stephanie as a miracle worker and after going to her, I can't disagree! read more

I found Stephanie on Yelp back during one of the snowstorms this past winter. I gave her a call one morning and was lucky enough to get an appointment that afternoon. I chose to get the 90 minute massage and it was so worth it! I have serious neck/shoulder tension. My muscles are so tight that it physically makes me sick to my stomach. She provided me with a wonderful massage and I walked out of there feeling fabulous! My tension disappeared! I keep meaning to make another appointment with her soon. I would definitely go back to her again. Thanks for your help! read more

Stephanie is THE BEST. I think it might be insulting to call her magical, so I'll say she's highly skilled! I've seen her a number of times and she always makes me feel so much better. My body feels healed and balanced. Thank you for what you do, Stephanie. read more

Went to Stephanie based on the good reviews. I was looking for a local therapist to help keep my body in shape as I am a professional athlete. We discussed what sorts of work I had received in the past and what I was looking for and I thought we had an understanding. Right away in the massage I felt through her touch that something was off. I have had hundreds of hours of massages in my career and have some clue as to the needs of my body. Her touch was far too light and did not seem to have a purpose, but I thought to give her a chance. I started getting uncomfortable because we had discussed the problem areas that I wanted worked out in my body and could tell fairly well that it was not working. I mentioned twice in the session that she could go deeper but there was no change. After getting off the table she observed that the alignment issues she had observed in the beginning of the session were not resolved and commented that it was just how my body was. I have never finished a massage in as bad shape as when I started the massage. The whole point of the work I needed done was to have these imbalances corrected and to not have them fixed at all was completely unacceptable in body work. While I am certain that she is a competent therapist and would work for some people I simply wouldn't recommend the work for any athlete or anyone looking for deep tissue work. I also wish that the 140$ was better spent towards fixing my body as I will have to put out additional money and time to have my issues fixed. read more

Go to Practical Bodywork. It's not a luxury. It's maintenance to your own nervous system. Just as you might think of our oil change, or water bill as something that you need, remember to be connected with your nervous system. I've been explaining my pain to physicians and chiropractors for 15 YEARS with no real progress. Practical Bodyworks has helped make it better (not cured, but better) in four sessions so far. And I'll be going back and so will my family. read more

Stephanie's massages are well worth the $$ and time. She is thoughtful, competent, and professional. I recommend her to all my friends.

Stephanie is a skilled and knowledgeable massage therapist. She charges a reasonable fee for for sessions that incorporate multiple modalities of massage and would cost a lot more at other studios. Her studio and practice are calm, comfortable, and relaxing. read more

Stephanie knows what she is doing! After my massage I felt very relaxed yet energized. She hit all the spots that needed work, including places connected to the places that needed work. Highly recommended. read more

Experienced, knowledgable, caring, completely professional yet deeply nurturing. A therapist with a true calling.

I've been to Stephanie three times to work on upper back problems that have plagued me for years. She's the first bodyworker whose efforts continue to benefit me for ten days or more after a session. I also find myself much more cognizant of unnecessary tension in my body and that makes it easy to let it go. Yesterday I had a flare up of arthritis in my feet. I don't know WHAT she did, working on my legs and feet, but the pain is gone. She's a treasure. read more

Stephanie is, to me, a miracle worker. And, I know she would humbly disagree, but that is how I feel and how I describe her to all of my friends, family and clients who are in the market for massage therapy. As a full-time personal trainer, dance/movement therapist and physical education teacher, my body and mind are indefinitely dependent on Stephanie's holistic and "miraculous" massages. The first time I stumbled upon her studio, I was trying to keep up with my training for the Broad Street Run while fighting off a cold virus AND a strained hamstring. I knew she was the right fit when she seemed excited about the challenge of creating the exact massage to target all of my issues. "I'm a problem-solver," she said. I soon found out that she was right. Not only has she helped me manage chronic muscle soreness/tension related to my work, she has been the link to stress relief and energy shifts that have enabled me to get through some recent crises in my personal life. Stephanie brings a level of focus, presence and genuine care that I've never seen in other massage therapists before. My monthly massages with her are true investments that are paying dividends in my personal and professional life! read more
