They decided to ignore my girlfriend's project after leaving a $520 deposit. She brought them the idea / materials and paid the deposit on June 7. They gave an estimated date of June 21 (the gift wasn't needed until July 10). Get to the week of July 7, and they still have not started the project due to "other emergencies" (1. You're a picture frame store, wtf kind of emergencies could there be and 2. Why is her money less valuable than other customers?). Anyways still no progress on July 10 (the date it was needed). She tries calling and texting, even left a voicemail. No response. Her friend calls and they pick up immediately. Clearly dodging her calls. Ultimately went in to get a refund on her behalf because it was July 20 and they still had not even started the project. Took them 6 weeks and all they had was a CAD design. Overall a disgraceful treatment of customers and I could not recommend staying away from here enough. read more

Best frame shop in Chicago! They helped me frame a few different items and helped me stay within my budget while making my art pieces pop! They had creative ideas that I didn't even know of and they knew how to work the art with a perfect mat or a floating frame. They even let me borrow a hammer for a day to put the art up and gave me a few extra nails. read more

I've used Practical Angle twice for custom frames and have had absolutely wonderful experience both times! Highly recommend them! The staff are very friendly, knowledgeable, and seem to really love what they do. And also very patient with me (someone who is indecisive and knows nothing about frames). I do recommend going in with a budget and informing them ahead of time because, probably with any frame shop, you can really rack up a bill! They will tell you what is practical and feasible in your budget! Will absolutely use them again! read more

We moved to Chicago two years ago in the Streeterville section. This is my go-to place to frame paintings and photos. The staff is very friendly offering ideas, creative solutions with a can-do spirit, are meticulous with their craftsmanship, and prices are reasonable. I don't often give generous grades like this as I, myself, am a fine/artist and a designer with a discerning eye and a skilled hand. They have a very large collection of frames to compliment any art style. Their mission is to please their customers. I just moved back to Chicago and have recently discovered Practical Angle, which is now my go-to frame shop for everything from photos to prints. It was kinda a big step moving from the Ikea-frame-made-from-fiber-board-and-tape to custom ones, only because of the steep price increase. But, as expected, worth every penny. Their patience is my biggest sell-point. I never feel overly rushed, even when a decision between two seemingly similar frames takes forever. And, their attention to detail is pretty great. Why I love Practical Angle? I never had any previous experience in getting anything framed, so when I went to Practical Angle, I was bombarded with decisions to make. Other than the frame itself, you have to decide things about the glass, the bordering, different color combinations, etc. Clearly, I was in over my head, but with the help and suggestions of the staff, I walked away knowing that I'll have an awesome frame to put up. It's location can't be beat (1 block east of Michigan Ave on Erie) - its in a beautiful old building which is just charming. I had a painting framed and couldn't be happier with the results. The staff is knowledgable, very helpful and patient. The frame selection is so vast so be prepared to be overwhelmed with choices - I was there for a while but thanks to Ketch, I found the perfect frame! I went to Practical Angle with a bunch of posters I needed framed. I used to live in NYC and always had a trusted framing place so my expectations were high. These guys did not disappoint. They gave me several options given my budget, which I appreciated. Some places will try to force a frame on you or give you a super cheap alternative. These guys worked with what your vision is for the framing and are super nice. The turnaround time for four framings was about a week -- not too bad. They also had a ton of options to pick from and didn't rush me through the process. Definitely great service. The only issue I had (and the only reason I didn't give them 5 stars) is that the wiring for hanging were all different lengths so getting them to hang in a neat row was a pain. I probably should have mentioned that to them at first, but I neglected to. I definitely recommend Practical Angle! read more

First yelp review on a FRAME SHOP?! This place is totally worth it! I had an idea of what I wanted but had no idea it could turn out this good. I was working with an old b&w photograph with some discoloration. They spent a solid hour going over options that would work with the difficult coloring, and showed me variations that would fit in my budget. They even offered me a little discount after I fell in love with a pricy frame. The staff was great - extremely knowledgeable, pointed out things I hadn't even thought of, and genuinely interested in the final product. Would definitely recommend! read more

In effort to get two posters framed for my boss I emailed several local framing companies, Practical Angle was the first to respond, offering better pricing than I had even hoped for. Placing my order was quick and easy, and as my posters were being framed I received updates. When they were finished I ordered a messenger service to pick them up, unfortunately the messenger cracked one of the frames in the process. After getting an earful from the messenger service I called Practical Angle in fear they would charge me to reframe the poster. I explained the situation, and I didn't even have to ask. Randy offered to fix the frame free of charge, and he even guaranteed he could fix it the same day. He even apologized for the inconvenience which wasn't his fault. I can't even begin to explain how pleased I was with their service and the turn out of our frames. My boss is ecstatic - I highly recommend them! read more
