Holiday Inn & Suites Slidell - New Orleans Area - What in the actual **** is this and why is it so flithy?!?

Holiday Inn & Suites Slidell - New Orleans Area

Skip this location and stay somewhere else. Stayed here for 2 nights…read more Room was ok. Not dirty exactly, but didn't feel clean either. The room smelled musty and the AC didn't work well, but we were only in the room to sleep so it was just ok. The breakfast is the worst I've ever experienced at a Holiday Inn. Coffee was cold, we warmed it in the microwave. All the hot items were empty and it was NOT busy either day mid breakfast times when we came down. I paid extra for breakfast, I could have saved the money and gotten a better breakfast at the McDonalds that's a minute away. The indoor pool, the reason I booked this hotel, looked cloudy and almost like a pond in color. They had renovation materials from outside the pool area piled on the deck. No sign saying the pool was closed, and the staff at the desk appeared to think it was open and fine. I have a very disappointed child who has been looking forward to swimming. I wouldn't let my dog swim in that water. I've seen cleaner lake water. The front desk people were fine, but seemed powerless to get the breakfast person to get anything ready (same person doing breakfast both days). I stay in IHG properties often and this is by far the worst experience I've ever had.

Stay elsewhere - there are better choices nearby…read more My son and I stayed at this Holiday Inn for two nights over New Year's to attend the Sugar Bowl. We chose this location as a budget-conscious alternative to downtown New Orleans hotels ($157/night vs $400+), accepting the 30-minute drive on I-10. While the beds and pillows were comfortable and we slept well, nearly every other aspect of our stay fell short of Holiday Inn standards. Check-in Issues: Despite clearly being two adults, we received only one room key. When I requested a second key, the desk clerk said they were short on keys and resisted until I explained we'd have different schedules. Building Access Problems: The end entrance doors near parking areas don't function with the newer proximity room keys - they require older swipe-style keys that guests aren't provided. This forces everyone to walk to the main lobby entrance to re-enter the building, regardless of where you've parked or where your room is located. Room Condition (2nd Floor): Multiple maintenance issues greeted us. The desk lamp outlet didn't work, making it impossible to charge phones where you'd actually use them. A USB/outlet panel existed near the closet but was impractically located. The bathroom door didn't fit its frame and wouldn't close properly. We found a dirty washcloth left in the shower, and the lounge chair was missing its back cushion. Breakfast (Paid Extra): This was the worst hotel breakfast I've encountered. The pancake maker wasn't turned on. The juice dispenser was covered in fruit flies and looked rarely cleaned. There were no forks available--I had to request them at the front desk, where a maintenance worker retrieved half a box from the kitchen, handed me one fork, and started to put the rest back. Only after I pointed out other guests needed them did he refill the container. The scrambled eggs were mostly brown. Coffee is made at 4:30 AM and 7:00 AM only - when it runs out, that's it. Bar-height counter outlets and USB ports didn't function. The entire area appeared infrequently cleaned, with no attendant maintaining it. Housekeeping: After our first night out (we left around 10 AM for the game), we returned to find our room uncleaned. When I requested fresh towels, only washcloths and bath towels were available--no hand towels. The desk attendant responded by accusing me of leaving out a "Do Not Disturb" sign, which I had not. Staff: While generally polite, staff seemed indifferent to guest concerns and focused more on explaining why things weren't working rather than resolving issues. The laundry facilities appeared clean and functional. If you're looking for an economical option for a Superdome event and can tolerate significant inconveniences, this property saves money. However, the lack of basic maintenance, cleanliness, and guest services made this a stay I wouldn't repeat. If you're loyal to IHG brands, the nearby Holiday Inn Express may be a better choice.
