My husband and I were on our way from Central Texas to Englewood Florida for vacation with friends when our truck broke down on I-10 just west of Tallahassee. The awesome wrecker driver from Lawson's Paint and Body brought us to Powerhouse. As you can imagine,we were pretty frustrated. We were a day and a half into a long road trip, for vacation, and had no idea how serious the breakdown was. Both Jim, the owner, and Phil, the manager, went way above and beyond to make us feel comfortable and entertain us. The first thing Phil said when he introduced himself was "I want to put y'all at ease. " And he did. They have a really nice waiting room with sofas, a big screen tv, reading material, and a little kitchen.  Phil even offered -- no, almost insisted -- to bring us food from a nearby fast food place, though we declined. And the bathroom was clean and even smelled nice! Luckily, they were able to repair the truck relatively easily and quickly, just a couple of hours. They even off our transmission fluid. Importantly, they didn't have enough mechanics on duty at the time to get to us right away, but knowing that we were on the road and broken down and stuck, Jim did the repairs himself. When Phil noticed the Navy stickers on my husband's truck, they bonded over having been in the Navy at the same time, and gave us a military discount on the already VERY reasonable bill. Attention parents who live afar with college students in Tally who are desperate to find a honest and trustworthy mechanic: This place doesn't deserve 5 stars, there should be an option for extra credit. 10/5!! Shop owners went above and beyond with one of my most valued gifts; my daughter. Took her car in for issues that we've been chasing for almost a year (at a different shop). I initially tried to give them a detailed description of all that has been done and luckily they asked to look at it with a 'fresh pair of eyes'. Much to my surprise, given the thousands of dollars I've already poured into this car, they FIXED it! Diagnostic took longer than the fix. This job required skilled and patient professionals, which is exactly what we got when we walked into this shop. Communicated with me every step of the way. Unfortunately, I handed them a half broken key fob, which I forgot to tell them. As expected it broke after a test drive. When they called to notify me of what happened, I apologized profusely as it was MY fault. Now some of you may think, oh well, the key broke while in their possession, so it's their responsibility to fix it. I couldn't disagree more, however, they still took it upon themselves to get me a new key. Their rationale - I didn't need the added headache after all the trouble this car had already caused. I didn't think it was possible, there are still some businesses out there with integrity. I wouldn't trust any other mechanic to ensure my daughter is in a safe and functional vehicle. read more

First I'd like to thank Phil the General manager very much. Everyone at powerhouse automotive greeted me and assisted me beautifully. If it wasn't for me moving, this would be my permanent mechanic shop. Their prices were reasonable and they worked on my car in a timely manner. The diagnostic was very clear and thorough. I requested to check a few things on my car: oil change, battery,new breaks, and a coolant flush. I want to say Powerhouse Automotive is a life saver. They were able to negotiatie and reason with me. They ended up accomplishing this in day. Overall. I just want to say Powerhouse Automotive is a life saver. Phil took the lead on making sure everything got done perfectly. would not recommend. came here to have my ac fixed, somehow ended up paying over $2000 for my ac to break 2 days later. brought it back 2 more times and was given temporary fixes that lasted a week. had to drive the car to Miami to be fixed properly. read more

!!CAUTION!! I came to Tallahassee for school and on the first day of class the starter in my car wore out. I desperately needed to get it fixed and Powerhouse was one of the first places that came up with my search. I took it in for repair and when I was contacted with the $480 estimate I was suspicious. I knew that the part was somewhere between $120-$200 depending on new or rebuilt. The manager contacted me several times to see when I was going to pick it up (3 times in the span of 2 hours) and had reduced the price down to) $375 if I paid cash. Once I picked up my car I immediately noticed my AC wasn't working like before and luckily I was only driving about 3 miles a day to and from campus. Within that week my engine was overheating and I noticed that my cooling fan was disconnected. I am no expert and I wish I was. The chord was hanging 6 inches from the fan and I could have fixed it myself. The only explanation I can think of is that it wasn't plugged back in after my initial repair. They called and said "it's your lucky day! It was disconnected so just bring me a $100 bill and we'll call it a day". I felt scammed and asked why it was $100 and they said it took almost 2 hours to find it. Bullshit. Again, when I arrived he dropped the price to $50 and kept making it seem like he was doing me the favor. Impecable salesmanship and knows how to play the customer. WATCH OUT! read more

Took me out my 140$ diagnostic that was supposed to be a day or two and turned into a week with no call once I called phil He started sounding sketchy and mentioned he'd call back with a quote NEVER did I had to go pick up my vehicle 3 days later with no call for him to say I needed a suppose new motor turns out it wasn't that he kept mentioning if I wanted to do insurance claim that he's not afraid to scam insurances PLACE IS A FRAUD AND SKETCHY PLACE I DO NOT RECOMMEND THEM AT ALL!!! read more

They did fix my truck but in the process they broke my ashtray underneath the radio and they locked me out of my programmer after replacing the PCM. When I called about it Brain didn't care and was rude telling me he didn't break anything and that the programmer isn't locked out. so now I have to buy and new ashtray and programmer on top of the 1100$ I gave them. read more

I came for my engine light and although they couldn't find the issue, I asked if they could change my transmission fluid because I speculated that was the cause. To my surprise, Jim answered with much integrity saying they could charge me and do the service, but he wouldn't feel good about it because he wasn't sure that was the issue and didn't want to charge me for no reason. Issue was fixed, but the invoice didn't clearly indicate the battery had been replaced with a new battery to justify the $300 charge. There was no manufacturer or warranty information listed, just "battery". When I asked, the mechanic just said to get in touch with him if there were any issues. read more

Jim and his crew are absolutely great. I had a major failure with my truck towing my RV. Jim, Joe and Brian did their very best to get my truck running again. In the end it was not repairable and I was stuck. I did not want to pour money into a vehicle that may fail again. Jim the owner through his own initiative served as intermediary withe local Chevy Dealer and I was able to work out a trade and we are able to move on with our trip. I never leave reviews, because I am too lazy to do so. However I was so impressed with the quality of service I received at Powerhouse, that I felt compelled to leave a review. This place is completely honest and upfront with you about the cost to repair your vehicle. They do not attempt to sell you any unnecessary products or parts for your car. Being female, I find it difficult to find a good mechanic who will not price gauge me, because of my lack of knowledge on vehicles. Powerhouse is an honest and reputable company that does not take advantage of you. Jeremy took excellent care of me and my vehicle after my tire flew off and the suspension was damaged. Joe's shop is amazingly kept, he is a superbly helpful person with a wonderful disposition. We had some truck issues while on the road so we pulled up to the shop and were greeted immediately with a smile and were escorted into an amazing waiting room that was excellently equipped with couches and a large T.V. Once the problem was identified, the fix was easy, and Joe and his shop employees showed me points of concern for the future.
