I had a gym membership for a year and didn't really care for it too much. Then I decided to get a Yoga membership at Power Yoga Works at the beginning of 2018, and I have absolutely fallen in love with it. Not only do I feel like I'm exercising, but I feel like I am spiritually connected as well. My acupuncturist recommended Yoga to me as a form of therapy, and boy was she right! I have been hooked ever since joining. Kim is a phenomenal instructor that establishes an even deeper connection to Yoga for me. With her as an instructor, I don't see myself going anywhere, any time soon. I definitely recommend Power Yoga Works if you are interested in getting started with Yoga. I stopped by an evening 6pm class that I found through class pass and was very impressed by this studio. First off, when I said it was my first time at the studio, Penny the instructor, was sooo friendly and helpful. She showed me around and told me everything I might need to know as a new student at the studio. I've been to my share of new studios and many are not that welcoming to new students. Peggy guided a small group of us through an invigorating and challenging flow. I also like that they have taped off placement for mats and the best part is that there are no mirrors (at least in the room that we were in that night). I found that practicing without a mirror added a new challenge to my practice, especially in the balancing poses, and adds a layer of humbleness that is often forgotten in some yoga studios. Just had an awesome yoga experience here!! I went to the holiday workshop not sure what to expect. It was a 3 hour event and absolutely worth it. Joe and Kim are wonderful instructors, the other students were nice, the flow was great. Malvern is a bit out of the way for me, but if I am ever there again I would totally go to class here! So you really cannot beat the Groupon deals that they have. A few constructive comments - I wish they would keep the studio hotter (sometimes it feels like lukewarm yoga). Also, it can get a bit monotonous as they do the same pattern every class. All in all, a great workout that definitely stretches the body and the mind. read more

I absolutely love PowerYogaWorks. I love an intense workout and I get bored very easily by yoga classes that don't make me feel challenged and active from start to finish, but I've felt consistently challenged and engaged by the classes here. There are a few instructors who I don't love but everyone has their own preferences and styles so I recommend trying classes with different instructors and settling on the ones who work best for you. The only thing I'll recommend in terms of instructors is that you wait until you're very confident with PYW's style to go to Joe Nowlan's classes, because he will put you on the spot and embarrass you if you can't keep up. I took my very fit sister with very little yoga experience to one of his Power Hours and he kept very loudly pointing out the things she was doing wrong to the entire class and at one point yelled to everyone that she was "turning purple," and she walked out humiliated and declared that she hated yoga and would never do it again. On a similar note, this is not a studio for beginners. I can honestly say that there is virtually no difference between their Basics and All Levels other than maybe a little more time spent on the first couple of sun salutations and less emphasis on inversions in Basics, so if you truly want a class that focuses on the foundations then I recommend doing a basic vinyasa class elsewhere so you can learn proper alignment and build up the strength to do countless chatarungas. They definitely don't focus on alignment here as much as they do in a lot of classic vinyasa classes I've been to and they seldom recommend modifications. The Power Hours are a blast (I love Bill's classes!) but they feel more like a fitness class than a yoga class - they're more about doing lots of sun salutations quickly than engaging in the individual poses. I wholly recommend PowerYogaWorks to people who are experienced with vinyasa and want to try something new and different, but if you don't have much yoga experience there's really no classes here that teach you the foundations. read more
