The event was originally called the Hall of Fame Bowl from 1986 to 1994 until being renamed in 1995 after its new title sponsor, Outback Steakhouse. The Outback bowl has signed agreements with the Southeastern Conference and the Big Ten Conference, creating an annual inter-sectional matchup that has continued ever since. In 1999, the Outback Bowl moved from Tampa Stadium into Raymond James Stadium. I've had the pleasure of attending the 5 appearances of the Florida Gators in the Outback Bowl with 3 wins & 2 losses. In 2003, the Florida Gators played Michigan. In 2004, 2006, & 2017, the Florida Gators played Iowa. In 2011, the Florida Gators played Penn State. So far, the SEC is the most winning conference in the Outback Bowl with 18 wins out of 31 appearances while the Big Ten has only 13 wins out of 32 appearances. The biggest perk for the players is that the Outback Bowl awards winning team players really nice rings with their team logos and diamonds, similar to the national championship rings! The Outback Bowl Schedule: December 26th - TEAM ARRIVALS December 27th - PLAYERS NIGHT AT SPLITSVILLE (Teams only) December 28th - OUTBACK BOWL SPOUSES LUNCHEON at the Centre Club (Invitation Only) December 29th - BUSCH GARDENS TEAM OUTING December 30th - CLEARWATER BEACH DAY includes live music, skydivers, a tug-of-war and other contests from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. December 30th - RxBENEFITS GRIDIRON GALA at the Marriott Water Street Hotel in downtown Tampa December 31st - BATTLE OF THE BANDS AT BUSCH GARDENS December 31st - NEW YEAR'S EVE PARADE featuring floats and marching bands including the two college bands January 1st - PREGAME BOWL BASH starting at 9:00 AM with live music on stage, entertainers, interactive games and appearances by the college bands & cheerleaders I really enjoyed the Outback bowl's beach bash event with its beautiful sand art, tug of war, cheerleaders, and music by the bands! I also enjoyed the Outback Bowl's Battle of the Bands at Busch Gardens! I have not yet been to the Outback Bowl New Years Eve Parade in Ybor City. I'm so happy to have witnessed the Gators play so close to home in bowl games at the Outback Bowl! In addition to being entertaining, the Outback Bowl has contributed millions to universities, brought millions in economic impact to Tampa, and has benefitted many local charities. If your team makes it to the Outback Bowl, I definitely recommend visiting Tampa to see your team play! It will give you an opportunity to explore all that Tampa Bay has to offer including Clearwater Beach at the beach bash, Busch Gardens for battle of the bands, Ybor City for the New Years Eve Parade, Downtown Tampa for the Gridiron Gala, and the Raymond James Stadium for the game!

It's connected to a bowling alley (literally connected), but we spent our time in the skating rink and didn't journey to the bowling alley part of the building. The rink is in serious need of updating. If you are thinking this is going to be bad, you are wrong. Roller Derby fans and participants are very much into the sport and they put on a great show. There is even a designated person walking around willing to explain what the heck is going on :-) The Roller Derby itself was fun to watch, exciting at times, and once we understood the rules, like watching any other sporting event. The rest of the experience outside of the actual roller derby sport was unique and enjoyable. Raffle tickets were sold, there was an intermission show (fencing), pamphlets were passed around for a non-profit, and there are souvenirs and food for sale. Everyone should go to Roller Derby at least once in their life. I absolutely recommend giving this a try.

The kids were excited all day to go, and had picked out their derby names before we left. Once we got there, parking was overflowing into KMart across the street from the SkatePlex in Tampa. After getting tix, getting in, and setting up our seats (good idea to bring fold up chairs), we were right on time for the action. The first bout was very entertaining, both travel teams were excellent. In the end Tampa Bay pulled ahead, mostly due to excellent speed and agility by Jammer Barbie Bont. The kids stuffed themselves with junk food, got their hair painted, and bought t-shirts between the 2 bouts. I had a couple of beers to get into the mood of the event, PBR being a sponsor of the TBDD. The second bout started off a bit slower, with lots of tactics and few chances being taken. In the end, the Mafia won by only 2 points. A tremendous bout. We are all excited to go to the next event on September 10th. You should really make it a point to go!

I purchased our tickets the day before so that we could skip the line. I was a little surprised to see the aquarium nestled in between the cruise dock and the downtown Tampa area. The aquarium itself has no parking, but there are a couple if garages right next door. The one I parked at was $20 a day. Even at 9am, the parking garage was nearly full to my suprise. I showed my ticket barcode to the attendant, they take a quick family photo (the cheapest one is $29) and we were in with no wait. The aquarium has many exhibits in a fairly small space. It was fairly comfortable for thr first 30 minutes we were there, but it quickly filled up. We went on Friday hoping to avoid crowds, but it didn't seem to help. We spent about 2 hours visiting all the animals and my girls even got to touch jellyfish ans stingrays. They have helpful employees that answer your questions and seemed happy to be there. The gift shop and food options are extremely expensive and are comparable to Disney prices. We saw everything we wanted to see and left by 1130am. Tickets were $45 and parking was $20. I feel it was a little pricey for 2 1/2 hours, but we had a good time.

Admission was $88 for one adult and one toddler, which felt a bit expensive for what was offered. We really enjoyed the coral reef exhibit and the large aquarium tanks. The octopus and jellyfish were definitely some of the most memorable animals, and my daughter absolutely loved the touch tank where she got to pet jellyfish. That ended up being one of her favorite parts of the visit Growing up in Florida and fishing most of my life, I'm already pretty familiar with much of the local marine life, so some of the exhibits weren't as exciting for me personally. However, my daughter had a wonderful time, which made the visit worthwhile. If you've visited before, be aware that a few things have changed. The outdoor penguin exhibit is gone, and the splash pad and playground have been replaced with a large turf area that has very little for kids to do outside. That was disappointing since those were some of the more unique family features. All of the animal exhibits are upstairs, while the downstairs consists mainly of the touch tank, gift shop, and restaurant. Overall, it's a smaller aquarium than what I remember from 10 years ago and we spent about an hour seeing everything at a comfortable pace. Overall, it's worth visiting once, but at the current admission price, I don't feel it offers enough value to visit regularly.
