After checking around she heard that Skater's Choice was the place to go to get her skates ready for the road. We rolled up on a Saturday and spoke directly to one of the owners. She was able to tell my wife exactly what was going on (wrong wheels for the road). She got her some more appropriate wheels and put them on. She also had a lot of other suggestions for my wife to make her skating experience better. While assisting us, another employee was working with a clearly more experienced skater (who had been doing some skate dancing?). The employee with us was also able to lead him to the skates he needed as well as offer some pointers (while simultaneously continuing to fix my wife's issue). The moral of the story? Doesn't matter if you are a beginner or more experienced, a road skater or skate dancer(?), Skater's Choice can get you fitted and drop the knowledge you need for a successful roll.

Have you ever been ice skating at one of these portable venues? They can be hit or miss, but thankfully this one is a hit. Not quite as large as some seasonal ice skating venues, but still acceptable and reasonably priced. Our kids were able to skate for several hours @ a cost of $12 per person. They say you are only allowed 90 minutes, but they don't seem to keep tab. Either that or it was of no concern since it was not very busy. However, the one thing they really need to work on (and this goes for all rinks like this) is the EPIC foot odor that comes from the skates and skate storage area. It is a germaphobic nightmare and I personally took the liberty of diagnosing several people with athlete's feet! The stank emanating from those skates had me running outside for air, thus I didn't bother skating myself and took my kids sock off and burned them afterwards! They were not getting anywhere near our vehicle with shocks that smelled like those dang skates! I wanted to take them over to the fountain just outside the tent to wash and bleach their feet, but my wife said I was going to far with my germaphobia! Once you pay, they will give you skates but they do not hold your shoes. There are very few benches for the amount of people here on the weekends so you will have to wait your turn to sit to put your skates on and stash your belongings wherever you can find a spot where they won't get stepped on. It is located at Curtis Hixon park at the front of the park. The holiday decor in the park is beautiful at night and worth a stop even if you don't end up skating.

The entire process was extremely understaffed, disorganized, and poorly managed. There appeared to be only two teenage staff members trying to manage and serve more than 20 people at once. They were clearly overwhelmed and should never have been placed in that position without adequate management support. Staff claimed there was no line, despite there clearly being three separate lines of customers waiting. Kids were repeatedly cutting in front of others with no organization or crowd control, and the situation eventually resulted in adults yelling at children--which is completely unacceptable in a family-oriented establishment. After waiting an unreasonable amount of time just to get my son something to drink, I finally had to go directly to management to obtain a beverage for him. What was even more frustrating was that when I raised my concerns, they were essentially dismissed rather than acknowledged or addressed. At that point, the issue was no longer simply about slow service; it became about how a legitimate customer concern was handled. Thankfully, aside from being left parched while waiting, my son still managed to enjoy himself, which was the one positive takeaway from the experience. I was seriously considering having my son's birthday party here, but after today, that is very much in question. If two teenagers are expected to handle more than 20 customers without adequate support, and concerns brought directly to management are dismissed, I have serious reservations about trusting the facility to properly handle a birthday party or other busy event. I will be contacting the general manager directly regarding what occurred. We've been to some rinks around here and the floor is really greasy/oily. If you know, you know that really makes it hard to fully maintain full control when turning and cutting. We also really appreciated that they had a little corner of the floor tucked away for the little skaters. Our little one loved it over there as an escape from the crowd and more experienced skaters. Also, in the larger sizes they had some really nice roller hockey style inline skates. I don't think there are enough of those to cover all sizes, but if you are lucky enough to get a pair, they definitely looked legit. We'll definitely be back to this location again. The DJ also played a good mix of old school vs new school music.
