The first time I hired Mailor for electrical work in October 2024, he did a great job, and I was pleased with his service. However, I recently(March 2025) had a very disappointing experience.
The issue occurred at my rental property, where a plumber had installed a new water heater that, for some reason, wasn't heating. The plumber suggested I contact an electrician, so I reached out to Mailor. He told me he could come by at 2:00pm that day.
Unfortunately, 2:00pm came and went with no sign of him. I texted him at 3:24 to follow up, but received no response. He finally called me around 4:10, saying he had just arrived at the property.
My tenant at the property is blind and has a protective dog. When Mailor arrived, he seemed frustrated about the situation, which clearly set a negative tone. I asked him to request the tenant put the dog in the bedroom, which she did without issue.
Then, before even starting any work, Mailor insisted I pay him $150 upfront. I haven't met one professional contractor that asks for the service fee upfront. By the way $150 for a service call is at the high end of electricians in Tampa, but that is neither here nor there. I think he knew that this was a 5 minute job and wanted the $150 upfront so there was no discussion. Anyway, at the time, I was driving to my daughter's dance recital, which started at 4:30 PM. I explained the situation and assured him that I wasn't trying to avoid payment--I have a strong track record of paying promptly and had paid him $1,500 for work he did last October. I've never had a late payment in my life.
Despite this, he continued to give me attitude and expressed that he didn't want to do the job. I reminded him that professionalism includes communicating if you're running late, which he hadn't done. He must have said 6 times he was going to send me an invoice for me to pay over my phone but it never came. He also repeatedly mentioned how long his day had been. Nonetheless, the doors to my daughter's dance recital were opening as I was on the phone with him. He threatened to leave four separate times before ultimately telling him that I don't have the time to deal with his games and that he can leave.
It was an unfortunate and frustrating experience, especially given our previous positive interaction. I had another electrician come later that evening and he was there for 5 minutes and only charged me $25 for his gas. My suggestion to Mailor is to be professional.
