My electricity downstairs went out one day. Annoying, but, not an emergency. I had A/C and the refrigerator was on.I started looking for contractors on Yelp. I spoke to a few and was not thrilled with their responses. I spoke to Chris Groves and gave him the go-ahead to take a look. He came out exactly at 9:30 AM, did a full diagnostic and fixed the ground fault in an hour. He didn't dilly-dally and milk the job to increase the hourly fee at all! I was very pleased indeed! Everything is back to normal. He is very professional, very personable and knows how to get it done. Best of all, he didn't talk "down" to me like other contractors did in the past. I spoke to Chris Groves, the owner of the company, of my need for a heavy duty outlet that can handle the load of my entertainment system in my closet. The devices that needed to be supported include two receivers, one amplifier, a video switch, two cable set top boxes, one blu ray player, an apple TV, two video game consoles, and a desktop computer. I explained to Chris that my problem with the system was that when the bulk of the devices were powered on I would frequently trip the circuit breaker and require to turn one or more devices off. Chris informed me that the best solution for my problem would be to run a new wire from my electrical panel into a 4plex circuit with two separate 20A load carrying capacities for a total of 40A total. The electricians from Groves Electric arrived on time Saturday afternoon and performed an excellent job with running the wire and installing the circuit. They were very professional, neat, organized, and made sure I was completely satisfied before leaving my house. I no longer have the problem of tripping the circuit breaker when the bulk of my entertainment system is in use. The circuit that they installed has exceeded my expectations given the power load that my entertainment system requires. I would definitely recommend Chris Groves and Groves Electric to perform work on my house again. They are very helpful, courteous, and professional and are deserving of the service awards they have received on Angie's List. Overall, I give them an A+ for installation and service. read more

Groves was called to give me an estimate on wiring a 325 sf new construction project on my property, a shed-to-studio conversion. The rep, Jon, arrived with a frown on his face, did not show I.D. (though he was wearing a company shirt), was surly and brusque. When I showed him the structure, he walked in, immediately walked out (10 secs. in and out) and sat down with my blueprints to write his quote. He asked a question I could not answer, so I immediately got the builder (a very reputable and able one) on the phone; Jon was not particularly affable with him, either. When I got the quote Jon wrote up later that day, I almost fell over with shock. It was THREE times (and more) the nearest quote by the two licensed electrical firms I had asked for estimates earlier. As well, the quote was sketchy, contained the minimum specs, and there was no thank you in it or the e-mail to which it was attached for allowing him to come over and take up my time for this absurdity. I contacted Groves initially because I was given a referral by a business owner who had had Groves do some work for him a few years ago. I lost no time in contacting that business owner who was as shocked as I was by what I forwarded him. I realize some vendors simply give an outrageously high quote for jobs they don't, for some reason, want to do. I had explained the project on the phone to Groves when I booked the estimate, but if their rep had, when he saw it, determined it was not something he/Groves wanted to do then all he had to do was say so. It would have saved me hours of time and it would have saved Groves from this very irritated review. read more

I called Groves based on all of the great Yelp reviews and overall, I am very pleased. The two gentlemen showed up on time to my home and were polite and professional. I told them my situation and they quickly got to work looking over my home and came up with a solution that worked for me. I was extremely happy to hear they could accomplish all of the work the very same day and did so within about 3 hours total. So.... why not 5 stars?? I'll tell you. I found Groves to be expensive. I also thought one gentleman was trying to nickel and dime me for every little thing and I question whether he was being an expert or trying to squeeze me for more money. One of the two men would say, "this may work" or "it is ok" and the other would quickly say "well no, there isn't enough voltage, etc." I committed to spending $1270 dollars with them and when I asked if they could simply remove a light fixture that wasn't working, I was told it would be $100. When I asked about my microwave bulb, they said they would throw that in for me if I did the work with them but ultimately, they didn't have the bulb I needed so I ended up doing it myself anyways. I just had the icky feeling of being swindled. I don't want to reveal people's names on here but I will say, my electricians were not the ones favorably mentioned in the other Yelp reviews. I didn't have Chris or Kirby and I wonder if I would have felt differently if I had worked with one of them. read more

I needed emergency electrical work but the Sunday electrician wanted $755 to complete some rather basic work (replacing outdoor GFI plug and wiring). I called Groves and used them because he was the only contractor out of 4 i called that called me back on a Sunday. the rest waited until Monday, even though they said they were 24/7. Monday morning the crew was out and the estimate was $350. power was restored and before they left i told them one outlet wasn't working, and they went back and checked the breakers and made sure i was 100% with power before leaving. Absolutely amazing service from Groves Electric last week. I had John C. and Eddie out to do a bunch of tasks to include installing new fans, adding recessed, wall, and pendant lighting, installing new switches and capping some old outlets. From quote to completion, Chris and his crew were polite, upfront and incredibly professional. I made John C. my de facto project manager because his insight into how we could transform some rooms was extremely appreciated. As they did the work, they even inspected a few extra items that showed up on our inspection report to give me added peace of mind. As if that isn't enough, they even ran to Lowe's to buy matching recessed light trims (to match my existing lights) at no additional charge. i was having problems with power going off and on in the bedroom of my 50+ year old house and my regular electrician was out of town for the week. chris groves answered my late afternoon text within an hour or so to say he'd call in the morning, and did so! he came oyt to check it out for free ,and got four breakers replaced by 10am for a very reasonable price! both he and john couldn't have been nicer and i have a new electrician to add into the mix. i'll be back. read more

This company is fantastic! I put in a call at 9:30in the morning, they were to my house by 9:45and had my problems fixed and paid for by 10:05. Always a silver lining to those unexpected and ill timed dark clouds and Groves Electric sure proved to be a huge silver lining today! Spent last two nights doing everything I could find on Youtube to quiet my chirping/beeping/SCREAMING smoke alarms...nada. Finally admitting defeat, I called Groves Electric before they opened, on a Friday, desperately seeking help. Chris Groves answered right away, listened patiently to my tale, provided an estimate and added me to his already booked schedule so i could get a good nights' sleep! He furthered my confidence by advising which alarms i could buy (to save on costs) and where i could find them. He arrived at the early end of the hour time window he gave me, started to work right away and installed my new and delightfully quiet alarms in no time. He was careful to ensure everything worked, checked the attic to make certain no hidden alarms would bother me, and then walked me through what to do if the alarms went off, unprovoked, again. Yesterday at 12:00pm , our entire breaker panel went out. We called a couple of electrician and basicly it was like talking to a robotic system, the person on the other side of the line didn't wan to hear my problem they just waned to start their mesmerized script..."Our service call will be X amount of dollars, then..ya, ya ya, ". Please give me a second to tell you what's going on before you go into a 5 min speech! Then we we called Groves Electric. Chris (the owner) answered my called, he asked immediately what problem are you having right now? Then gave me the time to explain our situation... Our complete electrical panel is out. We need some one over as soon as you can. Chris said they'll be there between 12:30 & 2:00. About 12:40, a knock at the door, and our Heros arrived! We went out to the breaker box, they were pullied a breaker out, and even I knew...this wasn't good. The planel was burnt all behind the breakers, and some were melted in that they couldn't even pull them out. John, who was on the crew said, you need a new breaker panel. John, called Chris, sent pictiures and I was immediately given a price to fix it. The price was excellent for the job they were looking at. It was about 1:15, I gave them OK to start the work, John told me were going to be here a while maybe until 8:00pm. My only question was when will my electric come back on?? I was told about 6:00pm. They went to work right away. They were a two man crew. Within 45 mins another crew of 2 men showed up and they were working diligently as a team, the electric was on at 3:30. And they finished the complete job at 4:00pm! They worked amazingly as a team, all the while being thorough and diligent as they went along. Our usual electrician just retired and as told the crew yesterday and Chris later on the phone, "your our new electricians!". We live here in South Tampa and will highly recommend Groves Electric to all our friends and neighbors! They get a 5 star rating from us and we highly recommend them to all of you looking for a prompt, efficient, fairly priced electrician who is extremely reliable!!
