I queried this and she said they were OK. Certainly didn't feel or look like I'd just been to the hairdressers. Nice location, easy to park.

My mum is a Cheshire lady who likes to do lunch and can be quite dismissive of less well known hair salons however she needed a wash and blow at short notice and popped in. No appointment was necessary and she was delighted with the results. It cost £11.50 and Cutting Crew offer reduced rates for pensioners on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday only ( £7.50 for a shampoo, blow or set). Children up to age 15 can also have their hair done. This is a lovely family oriented salon for the whole family.

I went for a full set of highlights as I had at other salons giving the same explanation: that I wanted blonde highlights to make the grey hair less noticeable. What I ended up with was being *completely* blonde all over the bottom part of my hair: a shade of blonde that was extremely bright and I could not carry off being brown skinned. There were no gaps between the 'highlights': so much of my hair had been bleached that it looked solid blonde. I was in such shock after seeing the results in the mirror that I couldn't quite believe what had been done to my hair. I spent a few minutes sat in my car staring at my hair in the rear view mirror in horror then drove straight home as I looked so ridiculous I was embarrassed to be seen. I knew I could not leave my hair in that state as it looked so silly having bright blonde hair being brown skinned. I did some research online and discovered I would have to dye my hair red first to tone the blonde down then brown to cover it completely. I had to buy two packs of dye and spend hours fixing this at home. So I am now back to a one tone brown colour which I didn't want. The hairdresser didn't apologise for making me look so ridiculous: she just took the payment and didn't acknowledge it. I would not trust this person with my hair again.

The fact that the place has always seemed busy everytime I pass it gave me confidence that the place was probably half decent, and given that this small independent salon boasts 6 seats and each seems perpetually full, this seemed a good sign. I wasn't disappointed. An impromptu call in saw them willing to accommodate me within an hour (which was fine) and a wet cut with one of the two guys who own and operate the place cost me £25 which felt like a pretty good deal given the excellent service that I received, the tasty cappucino that I enjoyed whilst being seen, and the quality of cut I received. The place is also affiliated with 'Beauty in Elyssium', an in-house beauty salon run within the same building, and I look forward to trying them out at some point. All in all, highly recommended, and well worth a visit.

Either way my trembling fragile mop sat staring at me in the mirror all delicate and resting on my head, so unsuspecting of what was to come. Turns out they don't let just about anybody off the street do it, the students are all well practised and some just at the turning point where the cut would of cost you £50. My hair was very pleased and I've been somewhat of a regular since. Once there was too many students and I ended up getting my haircut by a teacher, so essentially got a hundred pound haircut. My friend went in for a hair cut here and came out looking so great! It looked worth 50-60 pounds and she merely paid a £15! Toni and Guy Academy is as great as any other and the staff is very friendly. You just have to sign a contract stating that a trainee will be doing your hair and then it's all a joy ride! So if you would like to get your hair done for a small spend, go for the Academies!

So I decided to treat myself to getting my nails done. I decided on The Powder Room as its local to…read moreme and have heard good things. I have had trouble with acrylics in the past in that the tips that are glued on tend to ping off as they are more curved than my nail beds and don't adhere properly. The beauty (pun intended) here is that they don't use said precut tips. Nails are sculpted with white and pink acrylic powder which is done so very deftly, it looks like child's play, which I'm pretty certain it isn't. The ladies are both lovely, welcoming and friendly, and chatting felt in no way scripted like it can in some places (Special occasion /going on holidays/weather etc) it felt like having a natter with an old friend. Very impressed with the results, the price and the service and they have a new regular customer. They may only be small and independent but they've got it nailed (see what I did there?) I've already recommended them to a few of my friends. UPDATE Just a week after getting my acrylics done the one on my pinky snapped off. Gave them a call and they fitted me in an hour later for a free repair. Can't get better than that for service! Utterly brilliant!
