The majority of the other leather stores in Florence and other areas of Italy are now poor quality, mass produced. Stefano and his brother sell beautiful, high quality leather purses. Their family has been doing this for generations and they actually have 2 stores - each brother running their own store. Highly recommend them and be sure to ask them about their history and their process (type of leather used, how they dye it, etc). Bought a Cloto purse and it is gorgeous! You cannot go wrong there. He's the man!!!!…read more First time in Florence and I was in awe when I saw all the leather stores and stands and I didn't know why every stand and shop was selling the same leather products right next to each other at different prices.... as business Owner myself it didn't make sense to me how all these shops made money next to each other selling the same items!!! Some leather shops looked more high end and others looked low end but had the same stuff! I noticed most of the leather shops were owned by Indian or Bangladeshi people (I knew because i asked them) and they were selling the same products in the stores and the in the outside tent markets... Anyways I wanted to buy a nice leather backpack and I had my eye on one at the outdoor markets it was 180 Euro at one place and 140euro at another stand and I wasn't sure about it.... So this is where it gets good! After a day of seeing all these stands and stores I walked into Stefano's shop and it looked really nice in there and this blue leather backpack caught my eye but it was sitting on shelf nice and high and next I saw this leather wallet which I was also in the market for... and it was a Tri-fold wallet which was rare to find here in Florence since their money bills are shorter in length you only find smaller wallets... anyways I asked Stefano how much for this wallet and he gave me a decent price and I felt like he was a honest guy and felt good about him..... So I decided to ask him info about why there were so many leather places and stores.... This is why I like Stefano! He started to explain the complete leather business to me and the history of the market here in Florence and told me he is one of the last Italians left that actually sell Italian made Florence leather here.... he explained that those Bangladesh men I saw did sell real leather products but they are buying there leather products from Chinese people that are making it in factories here in Italy using the lowest quality leather from the lowest quality parts of the cow.... so even tho they are selling real leather it's the lowest quality and since the Chinese that are making it here in Italy they can put the Italian made leather symbols on it..... I felt bad for Stefano as he seemed a honest business owner and he had great customer service so I told him I want to buy the wallet and then I asked to see that beautiful blue leather backpack that caught my eye.... right away he said "Aw!" This is the best item in store and also the most expensive haha just my luck and I loved it.... it was listed at 400 euro and he gave me a deal on it!!! And also a deal on the wallet so I took both!! And I walked out a happy customer !! So please go to Stefano a real Italian selling real Italian leather products made by Italians... and as Stefano said it's rare to find that these days now.... I'm so happy with my purchase and it made my whole trip to Italy!!!

In Florence Italy July 2019, walked in Umberto's, was looking at purses, I picked up one lying down…read moreon shelf to fix it upright. He walked over and in a nasty tone told me to put that back! Stunned I looked at him. He layer it back down. My friend was looking at purses to purchase, had one on her shoulder asking me how I like it, again nasty he told her to not touch!! Meanwhile other customers were touching! He then cursed at me, when he heard me say to her let's go, he said F YOU to me and gave me the finger. AGAIN stunned to be treated like this and by someone with s business! He followed us outside, my husband and a friend were waiting out sitting on s ledge and he came out and yelled at them to get up! Later when walking by I took a picture of a man sitting on the same Ledge not being cursed and yelled at! Was a horrible experience and bad taste in our mouths about our shopping experience in Florence mainly UMBERTOS. How can someone be so nasty!! Especially when you have a business!
