I brought in a telescope tube for powder coating. They were nice enough to advise that while it was a small job, due to "project minimum" the cost would be comparatively higher than their usual charge. I said I was okay with the elevated cost and they advised that they would be able to perform the task. A few weeks later they contacted me to advise that the project was complete. I picked the tube up and did feel that the powder coating finish looked nice. The problem, however, was that in removing the old finish on the tube, they sand-blasted (or whatever medium they used) the threads on the end of the tube off. This made reassembly of the scope (the threaded ends held the focuser on one side and the objective lens on the other) impossible. Never was I advised that their process could affect the threads or cause non-cosmetic damage. I did reach out and leave a message with these folks, but never received any reply. I would not recommend them or do business with them again. read more

Just had 10 Brown Jordan chairs and 3 tables powder coated and the chairs re-strapped. They kept me informed throughout the process, picked them up and delivered them when finished. As a small business owner, I am not a fan of Yelp. I would rather a disappointed customer speak directly to me. I have communicated with PCS directly twice - through email and through certified letter. Their feedback to me has been disappointing. They have essentially told me that - "you should have known the risks of our process, sorry we destroyed your property". So, I am turning to Yelp to educate others who may be thinking of using PCS for their next project. I purchased a used bicycle cargo box and inquired to PCS about taking the old paint off and repainting it. I was informed that, depending on the condition of the cargo box - they would either hand strip or sandblast it to remove the old paint. I do not know anything about powder coating and assumed they would advise me and consult me before moving forward. They did not consult me and they decided to sandblast it. The sandblasting essentially destroyed the box - the sides of the box were bent inward, the front of the box had a dozen golf ball size divots, and the metal on the part of the box that was used for a sliding cover was bent in opposite directions. When I went to see the box, I was informed by the general manager that PCS usually rejects jobs when the metal is so thin. And also, that a more experienced sandblaster would have recognized the metal was bending and would have stopped the process. PCS did offer to try to repair the box, but I didn't want them to waste their time. As the 2 pieces of aluminum - that are supposed to be flush at the top of the box, were bulging away from each other in opposite directions - on both sides of the box. A tough fix for even a seasoned metal worker. The GM also told me that they owners may reimburse me for the damage - as they "were good people". When I dropped off the cargo box at PCS, I was impressed by the work that I saw them doing and felt the cargo box would be in good hands. I was excited to see what the cargo box would look like after a new coat of paint. Now, I am left with an unusable cargo box and was told I should have known better. That was an expensive lesson for me. Hopefully, by sharing my experience with PCS - they will work harder to prevent other customers from having items be damaged - and - prospective customers will do more due diligence before entrusting their items with any one powder coating company. read more

I took a vintage electric fireplace to Powder Coating Specialists on May 5th for powder coating. They said "no problem" and were super friendly on intake. Unfortunately as of August 20th I still do not have my fireplace back. Krissy, the representative I have been dealing with, has been curt with me when I ask about it as if I am being unreasonable on expecting that it would be done by now. She has used COVID as an excuse. And I totally get that maybe things have slowed down. But 3.5 months and it still not being done has become ridiculous. I chose them because I read such good reviews. This is a terrific outfit, in business for 20 years and I can understand their staying power. At the top of their mission statement is customer satisfaction. The product itself is fantastic and their commitment to my 100% happiness has made them my "go to" for powder coating. Definitely, my old house's pieces and parts have been the better for it. They stripped, primed, powder coated and re-installed my front porch's solid iron railings. Well worth the investment vs. getting today's lower quality (hollow) replacements. If you are looking for a great company with top notch customer service to do any kind of metal or iron refinishing, this is the one for you. I live in a 100+ year old house and am in the process of redoing my UGLY front porch. The iron railings on the porch are about 50 years old, and have been grossly neglected... My husband was ready to toss them and start over with wood or some other material. We didn't even know how we would go about making them look pretty since there was some rusting and rotting in several spots - I did some research online, and came across Powder Coating Specialists Inc. I called the same day and spoke with Jim. My first impression( and what most likely led me to follow up) was the time that Jim took with me on the phone as I described what I was looking to do... He even gave me some tips and pointers (in case I decided to go with another company). He asked me to take some pictures and email with dimensions. Shortly after that, he followed up with his estimate (which might I add was quite reasonable). Since I did not have a vehicle large enough to transport the rails, Jim then drove to my home to pick them up... a week later, they were done, and he actually delivered them back to me and stacked them up in my yard (porch still in process)! The work Jim and his crew did on these rails well exceeded anything I imagined. These 50 year old rails look brand new! They probably look better now than when they were first installed 50 years ago! I couldn't be happier with the outcome...What used to be a major eyesore is now the best looking thing on our front porch! We will for sure be using Powder Coating Specialists again! Thank you Jim! I dropped off a 30-inch table frame. Because the person there couldn't give me a price, I called a few days later for a quote. At $190, I thought the quote was a bit steep, but I didn't want to take another day off from work to pick up the table and find another vendor. I sent a check and a few days later called to see that it had arrived, and when the work would be started. All seemed in order until we picked up the table and learned that the price had doubled. The explanation, obtained after several e-mails, was "We always require a 50 percent deposit to start the work. The quote we give is only half the price." Seems as if that bit of information would have been a part of one of the four conversations with two different people there. Turns out I have a very valuable table, and no plans to use this company for future projects. read more
