This is a pretty run down gas station. It is fine if you just need a quick fill up and you're in the area, but anything other than that, you're better off going elsewhere. For instance, the car wash water pressure (?) is weak so putting my car through it was a waste of money. Most of the bird droppings remained on my car. Sigh. Being good about sheltering in place during the pandemic means 1 very dirty & dusty car! Plus, when it's time to go through the dryer, it counts down from about 90 seconds or so. However, as you move through, it will stop on its own about 20-30 seconds in. Ugh. So I left with a semi-clean & semi-dry car. Meh. read more

I have been so frustrated with this station for at least half a year. They made some improvements in the last few months, such as fixing the broken car wash, but yesterday I again was angered by the fact that I was once again overcharged. More than half of my visits here have lead to me having to waste a lot of time making trips to talk to the cashier whether to discuss being overcharged for the car wash or, in the past, to give me another code for the car wash so I can try it again. They have a big sign in the window that advertises that their Grand Prix car wash is only $5 (regular $8) with a 15-gallon fill up, but when you select it at the pump it charges you $8 when the receipt prints out, after your card has been charged. The first time I had this happen months ago the cashier said he couldn't just give me $3 back and didn't have authority to give me any compensation and that I should come back on a weekday and talk to a manager. Yesterday I had the same thing happen, so I went to talk to the cashier. The lady was very kind and even thanked me for not yelling (I'll bet this place has a lot of upset customers!) and said that she didn't have the authority to give me a $3 refund. I was told that the owners don't want to update the price on the pump for the car wash because it's a limited time offer, and yet I've seen this deal advertised on their window for at least half a year. I asked if I could call the manager during the week to discuss the ongoing frustration and problem, and she said she was not allowed to give out the number. She said she would talk to the manager herself. I was told that I should never buy the car wash at the pump after filling up as you have to walk inside the store and get the cashier will ring up the $5 deal. Couldn't the management put that on their window display? In any case, it's a waste of time to have to go inside every time when gas station trips should be quick. I really think the management needs to fix the pricing error at the pump so that people don't waste time at this station, get frustrated, and then have to take out their frustrations on the cashiers. read more

I came here on a casual Thursday afternoon during my lunch break expecting to just have a quick fill-up and carry on. What I didn't expect was to lock my keys in my car!! My phone was also locked in the car too. My quick gas station fill up quickly escalated into an entire situation. Having no phone to call for help, nor any phone numbers memorized (other than my mother's long-distance cell), I was forced to experience what I think life must've been like back in 80s (or 90s?). I had to rely on other people. I was so so so lucky to have been AT THIS PARTICULAR GAS STATION when I got locked out. As soon as I explained my situation, Sara and Patrick went above and beyond to make sure I would be able to retrieve my keys. They took a personal interest to ensure everything would work out. Being without a phone, they acted as a liaison between me and my mom and I was able to have a spare key brought to me!! I chilled here for at least an hour and was so thankful they have all the good snacks, Gatorade flavors, and local craft beers. Although I couldn't enjoy the craft beer because I had to get back to work, this is good to know. Anyways- the people here are really awesome and the entire store (pumps as well) was super clean. If I could give less stars, I would. I went there to get a car wash and paid for the top one, 8 dollars. After buying 50 dollars worth of gas, I go through and the machine shoots soap on my car and tells me to drive out and dry. I go tell the person, so they have me go through again, same thing. So I go back in and they are like come back at another time, here is a new code. I say, no I just want my money back, I won't remember and I don't want this happening again. After waiting for fifteen minutes, because the manager is no where to be found. She asks him and he says, no refunds on car washes. He has to come back. Now, I have a slip for a car wash that is broken, a car covered in soap, and 30 minutes of my time spent at a shell station. The employee was really nice but the manager was clueless. (WHAT DID YOU JUST OPEN?) (I must have bothered him as he talked to the Security Guard. ) We just looked at each other in silence for 10 Seconds. "You have no Change?" I asked again, he just did not care for any Customer service and just wanted me to leave. I asked where the next closest Gas station and he did not know. On Thanksgiving 2011 around 9:30 AM, I pulled into the Shell Gas Station on Poway Rd/Community Rd. I pumped gas and selected a Deluxe Car Wash. The receipt did not print. So I went to the door of the store and a hand written sign on the door said "Closed, Will Be Back at 2:30 PM". So I returned to the store today and refueled. I went to the Clerk and explained that Shell owed me a car wash. She said I needed a receipt. I told her that the receipt did not print. She refused to assist me any further. I spend around $500 per month on fuel purchaeses at this Shell Station. No more!! Shell Poway will lose about $6000 per year in fuel sales to me to save $7 on a disputed car wash. read more

Never ever use their Car Wash- It is a total rip off. The First time I purchased a car wash,it did not work. The owner was not reachable to give my money back. I gave the employee my phone no, the owner never called me back. Finally I came back to store and when Tiffany assured that the machine was fixed, she let me use the car wash. I purchased the Grand Prix Car wash- the best they offer and look at the pictures after the wash. The car looks even dirtier. The Girl Tiffany who works there is really nice. But this car wash facility is totally illegal. The machine is not doing what it is supposed to do. They should go through an audit from an Inspector to offer these fraud services. I've been coming here for the past year and half since the new owners have taken over. WOW! What a complete 180. Store has a wonder selection of items and very clean in and out. The car wash also operates much better. I asked the clerk about it, and she said the new owners have made several updates. My car looks amazing get a wash. Very friendly staff. This Shell station located on Poway Road is deceptive! They are charging customers credit card prices for gas when you use your debit card. I stopped pumping gas when I noticed this and went inside to ask the attendant about this and he told me "our machines are not smart enough change the price, but you're getting the cash price". Okay, so I found this odd since other stations in the area change the price when you use debit for the transaction. I went ahead and finished filling up my gas tank, then purchased a car wash (no car wash prices displayed on the gas pump LCD or via advertisement anywhere around the pump, so I had to guess which one to buy). Once the receipt printed I noticed that I was charged the "Credit" fee for my gas purchase and $7 for the carwash. I went back inside of the store and asked the attendant why I was charged the "credit" price when he told me that I would get the "cash" price. He then proceeds to tell me that they only offer the "cash" price when using cash inside of the store! I pointed out to him that this was not what he had just told me less then 10 minutes ago, so he tells me that there is nothing that he can do for me. I ask for the manager and he points to the phone number on the front window. He is part two of the subtle deception taking place at Shell Poway, since there are no prices displayed at the pump for their carwash services or anywhere near the pumps, I find out as I begin to leave the station on a small poster near the air & water that I could have received the best carwash for $5 since I purchased over 10 gallons of gas. No advertisements of this near the pumps or at the pumps. Just great! Think how may people like me use their Debit card at this station thinking that they are going to get the cash prices for gas, or want to get a car wash but don't know the prices so you have to wing it before the machine times out and you have to go inside of the store to purchase the carwash. No don't get me wrong, business have the right to sell their products and services any way they want. All that I am asking is that they are clear about their pricing. The big sign out front should say Credit/Debit = $, and Cash =$. Carwash prices should be clearly indicated at the point of sale or by advertisement poster or sticker somewhere the pump. This way we consumers can make our purchasing decisions based on an honest transaction. Please don't do business with Shell Poway until they are more forthright with product and services pricing! I went to redeem my car wash stamp card to get my free car wash, and the cashier argued that that card was not theirs even though it clearly showed their address and said "shell station" on it, and this is the shell station that I ALWAYS come to to get my car washed, and they have never in the past had a problem with stamping my card, until the ONE time I wanted to redeem it for a free wash. And they even came up with a lie and said that I came to the wrong shell station and that there is another in Poway down the street, which is completely false because there is only one shell station in Poway. I asked the two cashiers at the counter if they could turn on the air so I could put air in my tire. The female asked me if I got gas because it was only free to paying customers. I answer no, but my tire gauge indicator came on that I needed air in my tires. The female again said that she would do it this time but the rule is only for paying customers. I'm sorry but I thought Air/Water was free to everyone that needed it, am I wrong? If I could give them negative stars I would. The owner is a nasty, rude, bitter broad. I say broad for lack of a better term. The employees are so terrified of losing their jobs (yea, they've actually said that) She charges for air and ice. Now charging for ice when you've brought in a pre purchased cup is an asshole move but as the owner, that's up to her discretion. This broad KNOWS she's not supposed to be charging for air. She's nasty, looks at you nasty, and will have the audacity to give you a nasty look. You cannot even ask to speak to a manager unless they're working because they're terrified of losing their jobs. If you want to file a complaint...don't bother asking for the owner witch's name they'll shake their head, beg you not to lose them their job and point to the number on the window. That's ok because I called the corporate office. I will continue to call as long as they give bad/ unprofessional service. -10 stars. read more

Have only gone here for gas a few times as the price is higher ($.25 per gallon) at this location than it is at the Carmel Mtn. location next to Panera. Came in for gas and ended up getting a car wash too. I DON"T use the wash at the CMR location because it beats the heck out of your car and tends to leave scratches in the paint. The wash prices are far cheaper here so I gave it a try; glad I did. The robotic machine here is way better, not so rough, and is at least a minimum of $2 cheaper. The have a special going on now that if you buy $50 worth of gas you'll get a discount of $3 on their best wash (the Grand Prix, normally $8). The only drawback today was the service. While the clerk was friendly, I had to wait in line quite a while before he recognized that I was even there ( I was the ONLY 1 in the store), but "retail" happens. This station isn't quite as busy as the other locations and is relatively easy to get in and out of. P.S. If you're going to get a car wash, their machine does not use a distilled water rinse, so if you don't wipe down your car afterward you'll be left with hard water stains in the clear coat. read more

Station is always out of drinks, the inside is in a state of disarray as if they tried to remodel and then lost motivation, the windshield cleaners at the pumps are full of stagnant disgusting stinky water! What's up with this place? Like they can't afford to put some decent washer fluid in the containers? horrible! read more
