This a great gym, and the experience has been amazing. Clean facilities, knowledgeable instructors, wonderful community, and the owner is incredible. Classes for kids and adults makes it easy for the entire family to reach their fitness goals. Our daughter came here to become a faster athlete and it has been amazing watching her succeed on her journey. Her instructors are willing to meet her where she's at and help her achieve her athletic goals. We are so happy to be a part of the POW! family and look forward to many more years of fitness and fun. read more

We sent our very reserved son to their summer camp this year and he Loved it and keeps wanting to go back! He is speaking so much more as his confidence has soared. As parents, we loved the structure, the ratio of staff to kids, and that the children were held accountable for their actions. The size of the space was great so that all the kids were able to be watched at all times. All of the staff were solid and sweet. We wish they had an after school program too! read more

Eventbrite had an event for POW on their site. What a better way than to work out than a FREE Boxing Class to get your heart up and pumping. Once I signed up and was ready to go. I had to fill out this waiver before I attended this class. POW specializes in many different classes for you to come and try out. Thai, Boxing Classes and other marital arts that fits your interest. WOW POW!!!! They even have classes for kids. Before, we got started we warmed up with a light workout. Than we went into some basic boxing moves. The class was a little fast pace but it was good to just let off some steam. We paired off into 2's and worked on some moves. The instructor came around and made sure that everyone was comfortable. The gym is kind of small and a little over crowded. The staff was friendly and helpful. Street Parking is a little hard to find around in the area. But there is maybe 20 free parking space in the back of the building. Just make sure to get there early cause those spaces does fill up. read more

I found a home at Pow gym. I signed up for the 2 week trial & opted to join as a full member after 1 day! The programming is challenging & constantly evolving. The caliber of the training staff & facilities are without question top notch. They are also extremely diligent & go above & beyond sanitizing & taking all the necessary precautions to keep members safe. Kudos to the independent, micro gym that has their s@#% together! I thought the classes were really good and the fitness equipment was superb. But I cannot give this place more than one star because of how they operate. Two things occurred at POW Fitness that will cause me to NEVER refer them to anyone and to NEVER return: 1. I enrolled in some of the classes in 2019 and was about 15 min late on more than one occasion because I have a very demanding job that would cause me to stay late sometimes. The owner actually reprimanded me for being late to their fitness classes. I already have a job, and POW Fitness was not my employer, so I thought it was absolutely bad business to get on me, as a customer, about being late to a class that I paid for. POW Fitness was not paying me, I was paying them for a service. So, for them to reprimand me for being late to a fitness class that I paid for was just reprehensible! 2. I paid for fitness classes and personal training in advance that I could not take due to some personal circumstances that had arose. When I tried to get a refund initially, they told me that I could not receive a refund but they would just allow me to use what I purchased anytime. Well, I tried to do that but then the COVID-19 shutdown happened which created more problems for me. The problem was with the COVID-19 shutdown, I did not know when I would be able to use the fitness classes & personal training I purchased in the gym. So, I asked for a refund again and the owner not only refused but she was nasty and accused me of trying to take advantage of her as a small business owner. If I pay for a service, and cannot use that service, POW Fitness has no right to just keep my money as though it was a donation to their business. So, if anyone was trying to take advantage, it was the owner, Katalin. To make a long story short, the owner kept refusing to give me my money back after I kept telling her I would not be able to get in the gym to use my class cards and personal training in lieu of the COVID-19 shutdown. So, I forced to hire an attorney to get my money back I paid POW Fitness. I did get my money back but it was with a lot of unnecessary aggravation that could have been avoided if the owner would have just been civil and gave me a refund when I came to her initially. In addition, I was infuriated when Katalin thought that she was well within her rights to keep my money even though I told her my circumstances have changed and I would not be able to make it in the gym to take the classes and personal training I purchased. She became angry and accused me of trying to take advantage of her because I asked for the money back that I was not able to use at her facility. WORD OF ADVICE FOR THIS COMPANY: You have a great facility but how you operate your business will cause problems for you in the future. Accusing your customers of trying to take advantage of you when they ask for refunds of services that they have not used will cause your business to collapse in the end. read more

The theme for my birthday party this year was Muay Thai & Mai Tais, and POW! Gym helped make it happen! When I reached out to POW! about hosting my birthday party, they were totally on board with the concept. They even allowed me to take a free class so that I could check out the gym and meet Jimmy, the instructor. The only class that fit into my schedule was intermediate/advanced Thai Partnerwork, which was an interesting introduction to Muay Thai, but thanks to Jimmy and his brother, Bruce, I had a lot of fun and didn't die :-) The other students and staff were friendly and welcoming, and I was impressed with their camaraderie. If you're looking for a gym where you can get a good workout, learn martial arts skills, and have fun, I'd recommend POW! On the day of my birthday party, I mixed up 2 gallons of Mai Tais and headed over to the gym. Once everyone arrived, we donned our leis and had the first round of cocktails. Jimmy (assisted by Bruce) then led a private 1-hour Muay Thai class, in which we punched, kicked, elbowed, and kneed each other. We all learned basic Muay Thai skills, and had a blast doing so! Afterward, we enjoyed cake and a few more rounds of Mai Tais before heading next door to Wise Owl. I'd like to give a big 'Thank you' to POW! Gym, Jimmy, Bruce, and all of my friends for going along with my crazy ideas and making Muay Thai & Mai Tais a huge success! What a fun and memorable way to celebrate my birthday! :-) read more

What an amazing, absolutely kickass place to work out! I found this place through ClassPass, and I'm seriously considering quitting CP and getting a full-time membership here. Everyone who works here has the most positive attitude. I've attended Strength and Conditioning and Krav Maga Fundamentals here, and the former is possibly my favorite workout on ClassPass. Rob is an technical, hands-on and very encouraging instructor and plays the BEST, old school rock workout music. I would recommend Pow! to anyone in the West Loop. Be prepared to have fun and to get your butt kicked! read more

I didn't care for this place at all. I get that sometimes because of location, space is limited and small, but this was definitely not a welcoming experience. I've been to a few gyms that have a boxing / gym area and they were more organized and didn't make you feel rushed in and out. As soon as you walked in, shoes were everywhere, and not much move around space. The instructor seemed on edge in a hurry up type of way. Compared to other boxing/gym studios, I would not recommend this place. read more

POW! Gym - Bruce Lee from another dimension... - Trainers Near Me - Chicago, Illinois

POW is one of those rare gyms in the sense that it could easily be intimidating for a newcomer but isn't at all. POW, in addition to general fitness, specializes in Muay Thai, Boxing, and other martial arts, which are all (at first) intimidating in their own right. What POW provides its members is a spotless gym, a uniquely supportive community, and some of the best instructors in the city who will motivate you at a level appropriate to your goals. If you are looking to fight, they will work with you to get to that level. If you just want to maintain or get in shape using martial arts or their other strength and fitness classes, no problem! There is no pressure to ever get in the ring, and they will work with you to get you to where you want to be. Through POW's great facilities, small classes and top-notch instructors, they have been able to cultivate a community that works hard, supports each other and, ultimately, reaches their individual fitness goal(s). It is because of this that POW is a gym that their members look forward to going to day-after-day. read more

The staff makes the experience. Everyone who works at POW is caring, child friendly and kind! The pickup service is safe and reliable. My five year old enjoys all the classes, and even socializing with other members in the kids lounge afterwards. I'm so grateful to have this great program for after school care. We look forward to being members for years to come. read more

I attended Pow for about two years, however after moving to a new location, the drive became too much and I had to end my enrollment. Pow is a great gym with a very talented and energetic staff and great students as well. I originally signed up with Pow since they're the only place in the area that trains in Krav. Prior to attending, I had taken Krav in Detroit as well, and I was somewhat disappointed at the classes here, as they were not the intensity level that I was used to, nor were there any advanced classes. Typical Krav has several levels of classes ranging 1-5 with 5 being instructor level, I was used to sparring with new techniques, learning to disarm weapons, learning techniques to ward off multiple assailants, things of that nature. Of any of the classes that I took here, none of that was present. That, however, was kind of a blessing in disguise, as the other classes here are excellent, and my disappointment with the Krav classes motivated me to try boxing, Muay Thai, and Jujitsu. Sayid, Dino, and Lyndon are all incredible instructors and always give a quality workout with a good balance of training worked in as well. My only complaint with the Muay Thai classes was that there was never anymore more than basic classes and sparring was minimal. From what I took of Jujitsu, the classes were great, and there are plenty of people with varying experience levels who help you with your training. All in all, this is a very solid gym. The location can be an annoyance at times with traffic and limited parking, however that comes with the territory. The price could also be considered steep, but I think it's pretty standard for a martial arts gym in the city. I'm disappointed that I'm no longer able to rain at this facility, and I will really miss having Sayid as an instructor. read more

I've been a student at POW for almost 3 years now - so obviously I'm a fan. Because of the large number of classes they offer, I am able to attend 2 forty-five minute classes, four or five times a week, in the evenings after work. ( They also have morning, afternoon and Saturday classes as well.) In addition to the number of classes, they also offer a wide variety of classes- boxing, Kickboxing, Brazilian Jujitsu, and Krav Maga. The students range from complete novices, to people who want to learn a new skill while staying in shape, to professional and amateur boxers and MMA fighters. ( Dino Costeas, the Brazilian Jujitsu instructor, has his own MMA team in addition to coaching or U.F.C. fighters.) All of the instructors are extremely knowledgeable, helpful and excel at what they teach. Sifu Katalin, the owner, as well as one of the instructors, is one of the best teachers I have had. She truly has a great skill for breaking down complex moves into easy to understand steps. I highly recommend her classes for any novices out there who are thinking about learning martial arts. read more

I took classes at POW for two years while I was in school and got an amazing workout. The trainers changed quite a bit towards the end before I stoppped going there, but they were good nonetheless. I lost 25 pounds in 4 months and would have continued to go there if it fit my schedule. read more

I got the You Swoop deal for the Krav Maga workshop and was really excited to take this class. I'm a little embarrassed to admit this but after watching that terrible J.LO movie "Enough" (the movie where her husband beats her up & in the end she uses Krav Maga to kick his ass) I really wanted to learn this self defense technique. In all seriousness I think domestic violence is a serious issue and I think it's really important to know some self defense techniques especially for someone like me who doesn't always have the luxury of having a car and takes public transportation, walks home by myself at night, etc. Katalin is really awesome, she is very knowledgeable and great at demonstrating the different techniques for what to do when you come into a dangerous situation, and the importance of remaining calm, being aware of your surroundings and how to target the most vulnerable points of the body. I went to the workshop with my bf who is much bigger and taller than me, but she had us partnered up and I thought it was great because it also helped create a more real life situation because chances are if you're ever attacked the person attacking will be much bigger and stronger than you, but with the techniques that Katalin showed she proved that you can still defend yourself. The drills we went through were pretty tiring, but it was really great. A lot of the techniques require the use of a lot of force and it was definitely a great workout. I would love to come back here again and take more Krav classes. read more

So I've started doing class pass, it's a program where you basically have a gym membership through tons of different gyms throughout the city and can test out different classes. I went to POW! for a one time class through this. I went to the strength class which was really more like boot camp with interval training. It started out with jump roping, then doing some weights, some squats, some running. I enjoyed the class, it kept me entertained and I got a good work out. What I really enjoyed was that this place has parking. Huge plus. I could see myself coming back for another class here, but I wouldn't want an exclusive membership. read more

POW has an amazing atmosphere and very welcoming staff. From the moment you walk in being greeted by Leo to the very moment you finish class. I've taken two HIIT classes with Nick and loved the structure of his workout and constant motivation. Being an athlete for 19 years this style of workout is just what I'm used to! I highly recommend! read more

Extremely polite and professional. I bike year round all around the city, eat fairly healthy, cutting back on cigarettes, drink, in my late 20s, so im about in average shape. When I started, it was with Krav Maga, and that made me feel a little out of shape then I started the Muay Thai Boxing with Said, and then i knew i was out of shape. Awesome thing is, myself nor the other members were out of shape, its just an intense solid 40min of quality workout. At the end of class, everybody is sweaty, exhausted, and totally beat. For every second, you're pushing and being pushed in a positive/healthy way. A diverse gym, with respectful and encouraging members. Ive been half assing it and only going once a week, and im still seeing and feeling results. I can't emphasize enough the quality of the instructors. I plan on making room in my schedule to go more often. read more

I began classes at POW four weeks ago, and I am very happy with the quality of classes and instruction. I have not attended as frequently as needed to significantly improve my execution, but I get a challenging workout every time I attend. So after a month, I'm going to join the gym and commit the class time to improve. There is no question in my mind that focusing on improvement in Muay Thai will lead to whatever physical goal that is held. I'd highly recommend this gym. read more

I frequented POW! Gym 3 times a week for 6 weeks during a Krav Maga introductory challenge course for women. I had a blast. The instructors were great -- welcoming, encouraging, and truly wanted to see us do and feel our best. The group celebrated people's individual accomplishments, and it felt like a real community. Ask if they have any promotions or specials for new people or people interested in checking out the gym, because they have free classes every once in a while. read more

Love it, great value, super convenient, love the instructors.

POW! Superhero Training was definitely the highlight of the party. An hour of consistent movement. David is totally skilled at keeping the kids excited and engaged! Gym: Clean.. with showers and towel service! Lots of equipment including weight machines, cardio machines, free weights and other gear. Class: class was packed - i would say there were 35-40 people in an early evening class. Somehow the instructor managed to make his rounds and help out everyone. Class consisted of a warm up and then partner drills - which people took turns holding mitts. Staff: AMAZING. the front desk crew was very welcoming since it was my first time. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the area! read more

Loved the Owner I forget her name (in the pic) however I agree with the reviewer who says disorganized.. for the $$ that i was paying .. I didn't feel comfortable AT ALL!!! If you weren't Friends with the instructors, they didn't really pay any attention to you or show you better techniques... Katalin (not sure if thats her name) did .. if she was around.. She has the drive and compassion and really wants you to learn however she wasn't there to teach most of the time that I was there.. I absolutely Loved Krav Maga Techniques and the boxing was great .. it was a touch and go thing but for $130 per month it needs to be 100% Great allllllllllll of the time read more

I've been going here about three months and love it. I go about three times a week and enjoy all the classes I've taken so far. The classes can get full at time, but Sifu Kat takes the time to make sure everyone is using the right techniques and that you're improving from week to week. Well worth the money. read more

This place got me in the best shape of my life. For a girl who'd never thrown or taken a punch, I've come a long way in a year and a half at POW, and have never regretted it or felt it was overpriced. The first month or so was very hard, and just when I thought I'd never get the hang of it, something clicked, and I saw great results. I have paid for cheaper gym memberships in the past, but resented working out, so I never went. At POW, I hate to miss a favorite class, and when my schedule allows me to attend regularly, I feel confident, happy, relaxed, and focused. Kat is a superb teacher who pays close attention to her students at all levels in each class, and is consistently patient, energetic, and encouraging, all the while pushing you to give that last ounce of strength you thought was already gone. She notices everything, is always open to questions, and gives great advice. Her leadership is really strong, and she sets an impressive example for everyone in attendance. There are a variety of classes available, and I suggest trying different ones out with different instructors until you find a good match. Many are hands- on and quite attentive, and others are more hands- off, and it's up to you to ask questions if you're lost. Personally, I think no one can go wrong with krav maga, which teaches terrific basic, instinctive self- defense strategies and is very welcoming to beginners. The classes change up a bit once a month, so there's always something new in rotation. IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A FANCY ATHLETIC CLUB/DAY SPA, THIS IS NOT THE PLACE FOR YOU. It feels like a boxing gym, looks like a boxing gym, and for a novice like me, the first time you throw a REALLY successful punch and hear the big sound it makes in a mitt, it makes all the work worth it! read more

Man, what a fucking blast. There's nothing more fun than throwing some punches and kicks to get out all of that pent up frustration. You know, when that dartboard you made with a blow up pic of a certain someone just isn't cutting it anymore. First off, the staff here is the best. I arrived early for my Kickboxing & Cardio Drills class and they lent me gloves and wraps, and wrapped my hands for me. They allowed my friend and I to stash our stuff behind the front desk, and off to get buff we went. Now, everyone here really knows their stuff. You can tell people are serious about their workout, but it's made accessible for all levels. Our instructor, Rob Dannenberg, took the three of us new to the school and adjusted the drills to our skill level, while not making us feel any less a part of the group. The best thing was he recognized I had previous training and worked with it, instead of telling me everything about my technique was wrong (I'm looking at you, people who take a weekend kickboxing certification class and now think you're masters). All the other classes going on looked just as hard, fun, and focused on learning technique as mine was, and I can't wait to go back. But ya, when you need to kick, punch, and jump rope that aggression out, their Kickboxing class is just the medicine you need. Trust me. read more

We had an amazing superhero themed 4th birthday party for my son at POW Gym last weekend. The event was perfect. The kids had a blast, the Batman theme was well executed and most of all Lauren and Mariana were SO GOOD with the kids! They knew all of the kids' names and kept them so engaged. They were also super helpful with setup and clean up. The event totally exceeded my expectations. We will be back! read more

I recently attended a free trial class with every intention of signing up, as I have been looking for a boxing gym for some time now. My experience was less than enjoyable. The entire time I was in this 60-minute class, I was spoken to twice, once to sign the waivers, once to be told where to put dirty wraps. The front staff was pre-occupied with electronics and locals, and the instructor gave 100% of his attention to a woman he was sparring with. The only reason I personally deem them worthy of two stars is because if you look into a couple of their instructors, they have excellent backgrounds. Two days later, I attended a free trial at Emerald Smoke, and signed up immediately. read more

I trained at POW a few years ago, it was great back then, great staff, good place. I am back in the city and just signed up again, all was well until the new year started. Staff is still great and the gym has everything I could want, but they changed the class schedule, and killed the weekend classes meaning that I can't do the classes that I want during the week and have no workouts on the weekend. I tried to cancel my membership, but was told that I am completely locked in and can't get out (even if I pay to break it) unless I move 25 miles outside of the city or get a doctors note. Apparently the bank holds and manages the gym's contracts, they don't have any control or ability to work with customers. Again, great gym and staff, and the classes are some of the best I have taken (I have been training in different martial arts since I was 13, Katalin and crew know their stuff!) BUT the cutting/changing classes, killing weekend classes and handing contracts over to the bank make me think they are having financial issues... read more

WOW to POW!! Had our son's 5th birthday party with a custom theme of Lego Batman.
