There are no real surprises in the stock, lots of batteries, DIY items, toiletries, food, drinks and so on and on the occasion I went lots of Halloween and Christmas stuff as well. Some decent bargains and some well known brands. It's worth a look and in a city with a large student population should do well.

However it manages to squeeze in most of the items that you'll find in the other stores, just in smaller quantities. If you aren't familiar with Home Bargains (and if not why not?) they sell a wide range of items at genuine bargain prices including food and drink, cleaning materials, toileties, toys and homeware. Unlike a lot of bargain centres the quality is generally very good with lots of well known brands and the labels are mostly in English rather than Polish or Arabic. If you've never been here then you don't know what you're missing. It's in the Bay View Centre (next door to Morrisons) so parking shouldn't be a problem.

You could spend hours in this shop, the lay out is a bit cramped and there is a real mish mash of stuff on offer so it takes a while to look at everything. A bit over half the shop is given over to clothing and shoes but you'll also find lots of other stuff including toilettries, household appliances, DVDs and so on. Personally I was a bit underwhelmed. It's not all that cheap, mainly because a lot of the stock is expensive to start off with so even discounted it's still quite expensive. It's a bit like one of thise ex-catalogue shops were all the RRP's are twice what they are anywhere else. OK but not great.

There are also a few items that are less than a pound like padded envelopes. One thing that I noticed that stood out about this pound shop is that they have a fairly wide range of cake decorating and other baking/cooking making items like cookie cutters, cake and sweet papers, frosting tubes, etc. They were more than one pound but they were a lot less than Lakeland, and they seemed to be the same products.
