Painting pottery

We love this place! We are always greeted nicely. You got in pick a table, pick your pottery pieces then pick paint color and brushes then go to town. After you are finished you bring them to the register to check out. They fire the pieces in the kiln. It takes about a week to get the pieces back. We prefer to go during the week when the kids are off school so it not too busy. It can get a little wild and loud on the weekends.

I love this place! They have so many options of different ceramics to paint! The selection of colored glazes they have is substantial and they have a big selection of different brushes, tools, and squeeze bottles to achieve different effects and do different designs. The staff I interacted with were all very helpful and friendly, they explained everything in detail and answered all my questions. Its so easy to just pick a piece, pick your colors and glaze away. The bowl is chose was $18 + a $1 supply fee because it was Monday. Its also so so cool that if you arent able to finish, they let you come back for free to finish glazing! When you're done, they tell you to allow 7-10 days for firing but my bowl was done and back to me in less then 5 days. They also give you a free cup when you pick up your piece! I would love to be back! Love love love this place and the concept

My first experience painting pottery at Pottery Hollow was amazing! It's in such a great location in downtown Kirkwood. The prices seem fair to me for the wide range of paint colors, pottery options, and supplies available. It was about $55 for two medium sized pieces. Note that it does get extremely busy on the weekends. You're better off going in earlier rather than later to get a table without waiting long. Be aware that it'll probably take longer than anticipated (took us about 3 hours) because you have to do 3 coats of paint so the colors are even. Overall, it's such a fun spot for a date, girls day, or even bringing the family. I can't wait to see and take home our final glazed pieces!

I really wish I could give a better review. The staff was super friendly, the pieces of pottery to choose from were super cute, and there was ample room inside the business. The big reason I am giving it a low review is because of the atmosphere inside the store. My fiancé and I thought this was going to be a nice fun and relaxing experience, but truthfully it was just overrun with children. Now usually I wouldn't let this one bad instance leave such an impact on my review, but with 10 minutes of the children's birthday party ending, another one began. Now I do want to say that if you remove al the children from this, I would give Pottery Hollow a 5 star review, but it just seemed like a place for children. I would love to try out pottery hollow some other time when there are not a lot of children there. Perhaps I just went on a bad day, but for now my rating stands. My heart goes out to the wonderful staff for having to deal with such monsters.

This place was an excellent choice for an activity on a cold icy MLK day! My daughters and I wanted something to do other than the mall or a movie. We were able to get in just fine. Picked out a few pieces and sat and painted for about 2 hours! Mondays the paint fee is only $1! Great deal! We were notified our pieces were ready after only a week and a half. Love this place!

Examples of their many great pieces to choose from. Took this picture to give you examples of the price point.

It can be used for a music venue (my daughters have had recitals here) as well as great cocktail parties (I have so far hosted a jewelry party, reunion event, and a number of other cocktail parties here). The owners are amazingly helpful (a family) and flexible. The sound system, chairs and tables, and even linens are in great shape, and there is even a kitchenette towards the back. There is an outside area that can often be used that also enhances the space. Easy parking - a gem in the Webster Groves area!

You can comfortably seat 24 with space to mingle indoors and 24 (six tables of 4) outdoors. The garden patio is lovely and it was nice that it was covered and offered ceiling fans to keep the humid August air moving. I was disappointed in the lack of communication from Neil. I sent emails, but he never responded. I called a week later and someone told me he was out of town. He should get an auto-response for his emails if he plans on leaving town. He also said he would have the space set up (tables and chairs arranged) the night before my event, but when I arrived that day he was still in the process of setting up. That took time away from decorating the room and setting up the food buffet. Be aware the table linens they offer are the size of table toppers and only hang down about 3 inches, so plan on ordering your own table clothes. Overall the space is nice and the price is reasonable, but the coordinator is not very organized.

I was pleased to be able to leave the project there, partially finished, rather than rush through the project during the workshop. When going back to complete a workshop project, you do not have to pay a studio fee since that was worked into the initial price. I was able to go and finish gluing my project, using as much of the tiles/stained glass/porcelain as I wanted. I then took home my project as well as grout and a small kit containing a cloth, cuts of newspaper, and a few others things to grout at home, although I could have returned to the studio a third time to do that there if I wanted. Many members of my family go as well and have all expressed the same gratitude for the opportunity to create something new in a comfortable place at our own pace. Project prices (walk-in or workshop) aren't cheap but neither are the materials they provide. Everything I've made there has held up well and they rotate available projects. If you're unsure about project costs or studio fees, ask them before you start. They can recommend projects within your budget and explain the studio fee. They're not out to price gouge, running an art studio with quality materials and trained staff isn't cheap. I typically spend $70 per mosaic project/workshop, if you're looking for a rough estimate. They also sell cute kits for small mosaic projects to do at home, which make a great gift. I highly recommend checking out Yucandu. (thanks Yucandu team!)

We had a free hour studio session and a $45 gift card and after only spending thirty minutes here we still owed $53, we only painted. If you do ceramic, mosaic or anything else it's a lot more. It is very pricey for heads up. The kids really enjoyed it! They have a cool artwork displayed sadly you can not purchase it. Which is a bummer! I recommend doing this at least once with your kids!
