This amazing employee, Beth Volzone, found the check and went above and beyond to track me down to return the check. She searched for me on Facebook and Next Door. No luck. She even called the bank. Again, no luck. So, she locked the check in their safe until she could locate me. Finally, she located the person who wrote me the check by searching ND for her name. That person called me and I went to Ace to get the check. The effort that Beth put forth to help me speaks volumes about the caring attitude she has. Thanks Beth. I hope you get a pay raise. Downtown Hardware lacks the wood floors and high ceilings that I remember from the hardware stores of my childhood, but it fills the bill with its inventory and its staff. Best of all, it's efficient. When I need something specific, I can walk into the store, tell the young staff what I need, and be out the door with my purchase in roughly the same time it would take me to park my car at that big-box home improvement store that often doesn't even stock whatever it is I was looking for. Yes, I'm a fan, and I hope that Downtown Hardware stays in business forever.

Horrible customer service. They wasted two months of my time. Had my portable generator for 2…read moremonths . Every time I called, I was told they were checking this issue or that issue. I was told that a new carb kit had been installed and that they were going to have to order other parts. I finally picked it up yesterday after receiving no updates. I took it to J&J Small Engine in Clinton, Tn. He fixed the problem in one day. He told me that no new parts had been installed on my generator, as I was told. The few remaining Clampitt staff jokes(?) about everyone being fired. Most of the reviews here do not appear to be about the Bryson location. If you only ever had an Elders, and didn't know Clampitt, maybe they seem OK?? I was quoted $8 for a #2 spruce 8' 2x4 yesterday at Elders Bryson, at Lowes $3.45. I don't expect Lowes prices, but that is ridiculous, Clampitt used to be about $5 for the same 2x4 months ago, and lumber prices have been stable since then. When I commented to the cashier "I miss Clampitt", she said "We hear that a lot". I prefer to shop local, and will continue for other things ... but for hardware/lumber, I'll now normally just drive to Sylva. Since being purchased from Clampitt, Elders has screwed up the inventory system, reduced what they carry (Isles are much wider due to less inventory). They also eliminated any vegetable plants in 6 packs, reduced the vegetable seed rack by replacing it with ... wait for it ... Elder's logo'ed hats and coffee mugs at an exorbitant price. I have never seen anyone picking up anything from that shelf.
