They measure and then recommended closet design. My wife chose to order another closet redesign. Total $3700.00. Yes. You are not reading a typo. Closets organizers that are custom measured were installed. They fit in one closet. Not the other. I couldn't get into closet. Too big. The installation for two workers took 10 hours. So, lots of money for labor. The materials are shockingly few. They ask for payment up front. So, after complaining about one closet. The saleswoman came back and told me I was too fat to get into the closet. Not much I can do about that. Perhaps saleswoman should have measured me too. Well after three weeks of trying to secure a change, and CAlifornia Closets asked for 300 more dollars, dropping it to 150, I wasn't interested in paying more for what is already a rip off. So I will work on losing weight to get into my new overpriced closets. You may ask how we chose California Closets? We used them years ago in Chicago. Less money and great use of walk in closet space in a traditional bungalow. I'll try not to stay angry about one of the worst purchases I've made in a long time. I hope this helps you save money and choose another option for your next closet project.

I am really disappointed. We thought going to California Closets over other "not so name brands"…read morewould mean we got more professional and better service. Boy was I wrong. It started out fine. A salesperson came out to our place and did some measurements and we told her what we were looking for. About a week later we stopped into their showroom and the salesperson (who was super nice and helpful) had some ideas on her computer. We tweaked the design a little and she gave us a printout and a price. It was great. We thought about it for a couple days, compared it to our other option, and then called and said we'd like to move forward. The salesperson then mailed us a contract, which we signed and sent back with a check for the full amount of the contract. We thought we're good to go. I get a call from the salesperson a couple days later telling me there was a problem with their computer system and that our closet was going to be "twice as much" as the contract we signed. Needless to say I was surprised, not only that the price was going up so much (we had a second option with Eddie Z's that was for about the same as the original California Closets) but that they were not going to honor the signed and paid for contract. I then asked to talk to the manager and indicated that I can understand that there can be mistakes but that I was of the opinion that, given the timeline of events above, to have the price double was not reasonable and I expected them to honor their original signed contract. He said they would not cash my check and they would not do the job for anything less than twice the originally quoted cost. Period. End of conversation. I'm still surprised that a business like this would operate in this manner. I'm not sure if it was a bait and switch tactic, salesperson error or truly a programming error. They didn't even have the courtesy to send me the check I wrote them back! Eddie Z's did an awesome job and we love our closet, so I guess the moral of the story is to go to Eddie Z's...

Mark Udvari-Solner designed two homes for me. He did such a great job the first time, I went back…read moreto him to design our dream house. Mark produces amazing architectural plans, but that's just the tip of the iceberg. Plans were revised numerous times to evaluate and incorporate alternative ideas. Mark coordinated the bidding process to choose the builder. He oversaw the builders during the construction process to assure top-notch performance. Mark also provided invaluable advise on everything from building materials to contractors/suppliers to stylistic recommendations. Mark was there for us from start to finish and I can't imagine going through this process without his guidance. There isn't enough space here to express all the wonderful things we have to say about Mark Udvari-Solner. Building a house can be a harrowing process, but Mark made it a wonderful. First-time homebuilders might not fully appreciate this: Mark, is independent of the contractor/builder and played an important role in representing our interests in the process. He provided guidance and oversight based on our interests as homeowners (rather than in the interest of maximizing the profits of the builder, sub-contractors or suppliers). By coordinating the bidding process, specifying the materials and construction standards, he made sure that we got fair and comparable bids from reputable builders with whom he has worked with in the past. He also shepherded us through the selection process with the various suppliers, making sure that we put our money into things that are important and saving money where we might have spent it needlessly. Mark also kept an eye on the construction process to make sure that everything was done according to plan. And, this is the most important point here, we figured out that the various roles that Mark played in the process actually saved us more than enough money to pay for his services. That is remarkable. When I built my second home, we had some very specific ideas for what we were looking for in building this house. I came to Mark with a floor plan that I had drawn. He listened very carefully to us and spent a lot of time getting to know what we were looking for in a home. He took my plans and created a rough draft that merged our ideas with his ideas for many wonderful features that we would never have anticipated. He very patiently met with us several times to discuss subsequent drafts that not only got more and more creative and beautiful, but also found better ways to give us everything we wanted, while reducing the overall cost of the home to fit within our budget. I just don't think that would ever happen with design and build contractors. In the end, we got an amazing dream house that fit within our budget. Throughout this process, Mark was the face of his company and we dealt almost exclusively with him on anything other than routine issues. When we had questions or ideas that we wanted to share, he would get back to us right away. He was always eager to discuss new ideas or to consult with us on the choices and selections that you have to make with various suppliers. He also met with us on a fairly regular basis to inspect the job sight. He always made us feel like his most important client, which is especially impressive given that he has many clients with far larger budgets than ours. Another important factor is that Mark has very high standards of construction that he specs as part of his plans. There are many important things that a homeowner might not appreciate that some builders would cut out to save on costs and/or produce the low bid. Mark won't let them do that. Mark's attention to detail is phenomenal, which provides a great level of comfort in what can be an arduous process. So, the thing you notice right away with Mark is that he is a bundle of energy and ideas, which makes it really fun to work with him. When he gets going, the ideas literally start gushing out of him. Lest you think that means he doesn't listen to the client, I can assure you that isn't true. Despite his whirlwind demeanor, he listens very carefully to the needs and concerns of the client. It's quite remarkable how he managed to elicit our thoughts and ideas and integrate them into his designs.  Mark's designs exhibit an incredible creativity--in functionality and aesthetic appeal. His houses stand out from the crowd. When you work with Mark, you will get a unique home--one of a kind in terms of its beauty and in terms of the way it meets your specific needs. We discovered that builders like to work with Mark too. Working with him is a feather in a builder's cap. As such, Mark gets to work with this area's best builders. He made sure only highly reputable builders bid on our job. Mark represented us in getting the bids within our budget. He helped us select a wonderful builder whose performance whose performance far exceeded our expectations. Together, Mark and our builder gave use a beautiful home. Amazing!
