I received cortisone shots in both knees and a recommendation to use knee braces for gym, sports, and activities. When I asked, the assistant working with the doctor the cost of the braces, she quoted me approximately $150 each and noted that she needed to order them--for arrival the next day. Seemed pretty reasonable. Conveniently for PVOC/CAO, the billing system was down when I went to pick up the braces, so I ELECTRONICALLY signed for them without paying attn to the cost. I was billed a couple weeks later $298.61 for each brace. I attempted to return the unused braces, but the receptionist indicated that once I walked out of the office with them, they were not returnable. I left five messages for the Olney location office manager (Ryan) to question the return policy and billing. No matter what time of day it was he was either at lunch or not in the office. It's been over 2 months, and he still hasn't returned any of my calls. The only call I did receive about the braces, was a harassing call from the billing department.

He was very thorough in his initial assessment, very professional demeanor, and most importantly I felt better after the treatments. His assistant, Bianca, was always very efficient and helpful and I got through the appointments without undue delay. Unfortunately I can't say the same thing for the appointments with my orthopedic surgeons. Drs. Smink and Perim were very nice and answered all my questions, but the wait ranged from a half hour to over an hour. The receptionists and nurses are all very nice and efficient but I wonder who's managing the office there. Great physical therapist and doctors but be sure to take a book to read while waiting to see the Dr!

A young surgeon with the affiliated Medstar Georgetown office in Olney did surgery, then after clearing me 7 weeks later, based on an X-ray, to start putting weight on it, left for a new position elsewhere & left me in care of Dr Knolmayer, who saw me every 6 weeks. A few weeks after I started outpatient PT, I started experiencing pain again. Without taking an X-ray to make sure I wasn't developing necrosis in the hip, a known potential complication the first surgeon told me about at outset, he put me on anti-inflammatory pain meds, continued them next appointment despite continued pain, and I didn't make it to next scheduled appointment & called for emergency appointment. He finally took an X-ray nearly 5 months after one taken by surgeon who left, and only told me my hip and become necrotic and I needed a hip replacement. My new surgeon showed me X-ray and explained how bad it had gotten.

Their mantra is: "We only treat 2 body parts." I felt like I was at a car dealership getting my car serviced at a cut-rate facility. So, if you fall and injure your shoulder, elbow, wrist and ankle, you can only have 2 body parts evaluated. The doctor did examine my shoulder, broken elbow, sprained wrist and sprained ankle while telling me he could only examine 2 body parts. The doctor wouldn't approve an MRI for me either, even though I went to PT for three months and provided him with hospital x-rays that show damage to my shoulder. He said that I would have to wait another month for the MRI, (after completing PT) and then, he would only write for the MRI .... IF he didn't see improvement. The doctor explained that this was because of insurance ... I have two insurance providers and pay around $1,000 a month for both.

Dr. I'Brian never once used a computer. You feel like he is treating you as a human being & not a number. I highly recommend this practice to anyone who needs help with rehab or a broken bone. I saw three orthopedic surgeons and wasn't impressed with their cavalier attitudes toward surgery or their dismissiveness about my concerns. I wanted a doctor who was conservative and not quick to pull out the knife when a Theraband would do. I was so reassured by Dr. O'Brien's thoughtful approach and expert skill as a surgeon.
