Last night Darla started holding her left ear down. By this morning she was shaking her head, and I knew something wasn't right. Living out here with tall grasses, foxtails, and grass seeds everywhere, my first thought was that something had worked its way deep into her ear canal.
Darla and her brother, Nash were also due for their rabies vaccinations soon, so it was the perfect time to get them protected with thimerosal-free rabies vaccines, which is what I choose for my own dogs.
During Darla's exam, Dr. McKinley found something dark deep in her left ear canal. Because it was lodged so far down, Darla needed to be sedated so it could be removed safely. The culprit? Several flat grass seeds buried deep where they couldn't be reached while she was awake.
By late morning, Darla was back home, tail wagging and happily chewing a bone beside Nash like nothing had ever happened.
Even veterinarians have veterinarians! A huge thank you to Dr. McKinley and the incredible team at Potlatch Veterinary Clinic for taking such wonderful care of Darla and Nash today. I couldn't have asked for better hands to care for my pups. read more
