As anyone who's lived in Sierra Vista for any length of time will tell you, small towns run on…read moreword-of-mouth. If you're looking for the best diner, the best plumber, the best doctor, etc., all you have to do is ask a few longtime residents and you're good to go. Which is great, if you know the right people; not-so-great if you're a newbie. But, after ten years here I thought I was well past newbie status...that is, until, by word of mouth, I stumbled upon Barbra McCraney and The Social Register. A successful, highly professional, completely wonderful FULL SERVICE CATERER (big deal in these parts) that has been in business for nearly 30 years yet has practically ZERO internet presence - hence the reason I didn't know about her. Because I'm a total web-nerdy newb. But Barbra, she's old school, all right, with a personality so bright and lovable, and years of experience so distinguished, it shines through every aspect of her business. From our initial meeting to discuss menus/linens/servers/bartenders details for my company's holiday party, to the final wrap of our skillfully executed event, the Social Register staff were consummate pros. And the food, I can only describe it as down home cooking meets upscale flavor. Lots of yum. Also worth mentioning: "Death by Chocolate" - out of this world! Truly. As in, must have arrived from another planet because I don't enjoy chocolate cake, ever (so, possibly I'm the alien), but my husband insisted I try a bite and, holy crap! Rich but not heavy, decadent but somehow light; too magical for words, just sooooo goooood! And there you go. Now you know. Tell your friends. Let them eat cake!

I hired Craig and his team to cater my wedding, which took place at a remote venue about 2 hours outside of Tucson. The event was a challenge because not only was it remote, but I was also planning the event from the other side of the country. That meant I didn't have the benefit of meeting with caterers in person, trying food in advance, and undertaking all the traditional steps of finding vendors for a wedding. I knew I had found the right person to handle the event from the very first call. He was cordial, asked the right questions, clearly communicated his requirements, and was honest. He didn't disappear or go radio silent after I signed the contract and he was communicative all the way through the planning process and leading up to the event. About two months before the event, he graciously drove the two hours out to the venue to conduct a property walk-through with me when I was in town for the holidays. He refused additional reimbursement for his time or gas money to get out to the venue. In the last month leading up to the event, I communicated to Craig that a few of my guests had some allergies, and one was vegan. This was a quaint wedding of only about 20 people, so that meant coming up with some original alternatives for those few individuals. Furthermore, I hired him to prepare breakfast, lunch, and dinner the day of the wedding, which exasperated those challenges. On the day of the event, he had a custom vegan-friendly dish prepared for all three meals and took extraordinary precautions to prevent allergen cross-contamination. Every single meal was punctual, artfully presented, and delicious. This is not your standard wedding food or copy-and-paste banquet meal. Craig is extraordinarily talented and was continuously present throughout each meal to greet guests and present his dishes. Every guest was impressed and raving about the food. In addition to the tremendous food, Craig also helped to arrange servers for the event and even helped bring additional tables for the event. Craig is just a genuinely good person and you cannot do better than hiring him for your next event.

I was just thinking about the holidays the other day. Chef Craig will go to your home and teach "how to cook the best holiday dinner ever". I wish I had taken pictures. Chris' specifically put together a menu that was healthy, delicious and so well presented that everyone was impressed. As people in business know, appearance is a huge part of building a first class reputation. It's obvious that Chris understands this. He is a preferred provider for our company and always delivers on his promise to provide the best service and the freshest and best tasting meals. He worked well with me, and was very quick & professional about everything! He would talk to my Dad, then he'd email/call me to relay what was going on there, and would do the same once he talked with our venue. Him & his team works well with having a second caterer at the wedding, and they even went as far as saving a few plates for my hubby & I so we could eat (even tho we didn't get the chance to eat much more than a few bites). Absolutely hands down, the best catering place in the Tucson area. Everyone loved the food that he provided, it was honestly the highlight of the wedding.

She is the exact personality you want for events, easygoing, funny, kind, and dedicated. (And she has great taste in music!) I also want to share that when some of our participants were stranded by a car they had booked that never showed, Chef Karen went way above and beyond the call of duty, and made sure that the attendees got to their plane on time. Obviously, this isn't a thing that should be expected, but it's important to name things out loud when folks are extra-awesome. And Chef Karen is 100% extra-awesome! My only complaint is that she lives on the other side of the country, so it will be awhile before I get to have her food again. But if you're near Tucson, get some Chef Karen in your life!

I most highly recommend her.

I'll start by saying the food we ordered was "okay," not great, not bad, just, more or less,…read moregenerally "meh." With that said, dear sweet, pineapple ocean deities, the portion sizes we received were not only insultingly small, but the prices were exorbitant! $13 for ~2 cups of pork-fried rice? Are you kidding me?! Sure, they added tiny slivers of bacon and Spam to make it "island style," but it was neither better nor any different from your standard Asian-American fare. To be perfectly honest, I've had better fried rice at larger, mediocre chain restaurants (eg. "that Chinese Bear place....") than we received from J's Kitchen. And don't get me started on the "deep fried pork belly". I've seen larger chunks of pork in a bag of chicharrones than what I saw on my plate. And, again, the price? My gawd....$15 for ~1 cup of plain white rice and maybe a tiny handful of fried pork belly cubes that tasted no different than every other cut of pork belly I've ever had? Puh-lease. I've had less forgettable meals served on a gas station hot tray. Oh, and the lumpian? Thinner than my damn pinkie finger and with what I'm convinced is less nutritional value. You're better off buying generic frozen spring rolls at the grocery store for a fraction of the price, seriously. And, finally, the "stir-fried meat"? Generic chunks of chicken covered in what I can only assume was the "Great Value" equivalent of soy sauce and a pinch of old red and yellow peppers thrown in for, color, I suppose? I've eaten tastier and less depressing pre-packaged meals on middle-school field trips. In closing, I'd give it 0 stars if I could. Between the sub-par food, the microscopic portion sizes and the sky-high prices, you're better off going someplace, literally anywhere, else if you find yourself craving something different. 0/10. To be frank, I've cobbled together better meals at 2AM in my own kitchen completely on accident...
