I would say that is a fair comment but I would also have to insist on a four star rating against these metropolitan locales. The rationale is based on the superb cuisines which are perfectly matched only to be enhanced with an outstanding wine selection that challenges many of the best restaurants. Everyone is delightful, as Germans always are. The hospitality is as good as the wine, which is amazing. I enjoyed the vegetarian "Cordon Błue" and was blown away. Seriously great! The meats are outstanding, should you desire. I have never had wine fresh from the barrel. Well. A "glass" is actually a small pitcher and the wine tastes fresh. Although at a tourist attraction, the food and service here is superb and very good value. If it's Pfefflinger season there are a number of specials you can try - the Schnitzel was great! I can also recommend the mixed-grill plate, which you can work off with a nice walk through the grounds and into downtown afterwards. Perfect for groups with large tables inside and on the terrace. Located at the Esslinger Burg, you can catch a bus directly from the city center, otherwise you'll be working up a massive appetite by walking up the hill!
