Everyone is delightful, as Germans always are. The hospitality is as good as the wine, which is amazing. I enjoyed the vegetarian "Cordon Błue" and was blown away. Seriously great! The meats are outstanding, should you desire. I have never had wine fresh from the barrel. Well. A "glass" is actually a small pitcher and the wine tastes fresh. Cute charming traditional restaurant serving Swabian specialties. I found the place really nice, with lots of different hidden corners and plenty of seating options. The menu is pretty long and should make everyone happy. When in the area, it is worth trying the local regional specialties like Maultashen or Spaetzle. Even though these are rather simple and not sophisticated dishes, they make for a hearty tasty meal! Maultashen are a sort of pasta filled with meat or vegetables. They resemble ravioli, but are bigger and folded differently. They can be served in a soup or as a main course, usually accompanied by a potato salad in a starch on starch manner :) Spaetzle are also a type of thick pasta and are particularly good with bacon and cheese, well, what isn't? :) Take a look at the Unicorn, the surprising 'mascot' of this traditional restaurant ;) read more

This being one of my first experiences at an authentic German restaurant in the beautiful town of Esslingen, I will say that it would be hard to find a more exquisite restaurant in the than the Weinkeller. My friend that is a local in Stuttgart took us here to eat tradition German cuisine. And it was delicious! Both my boyfriend and I ordered the steak and onions. It comes with potato salad and spatzel. For my fellow steak eaters, if you like your steak medium rare in America then be sure to order it medium at this place. I am an American on vacation in Stuttgart. Was recommended to come here for the wine. I didn't have the wine. This definitely was one of my least favorite meals in Germany. Food: good initially but it got salty halfway through. Service: HORRIBLE! I sat down and got my own English menu after sitting for 10-15mins. I was not acknowledged by a waiter for another 20mins. Once my order was in, food came at an adequate time. When I got my bill, the waitress did not have change. I was already frustrated with the initial wait time. The waitress owed me 0.90euros in change and because I was dissatisfied with my experience, I did not want to give her an additional tip but she just stared at me. Could you not go get change??! Excellent food, service and value. Probably the best meal I've had in Germany! The Turkey Cordon Bleu was excellent! The thick breast meat was tender and juicy, with a very flavor full ham and cheese filling, perfectly fried. The service was prompt, and very patient with english-only speaking customers. Delicious, homemade Swabian food! I had the pork medallions with tender, homemade spatzle and a delicious cream sauce. Their potato salad is also delicious. A lot of steaks on the menu with more creative sauces. Great homey atmosphere and a friendly staff that is patient with my bad German and mispronunciations.
