After 13 years in Italy not much really surprises me anymore ;) However, the other day at this post…read moreoffice, tucked in a street right off Corso Vittorio Emanuele, one of Milan's busiest shopping streets, my jaw just dropped to the floor. I had to send a package so I went online to the poste.it website, printed out the specifics of the package delivery I wanted (fees, measures, exceptions, etc) and went there, ready to face the Italian postal system. I used to come often to this post office, being close to work, and had always noticed the boredom of its employees, the slow pace that reigns in the place and the zero-knowledge of English (it's not a residential quarter in an unknown town, it's Milan's most central and touristic area for heaven's sake!) together with frown to every customer entering the room. So, after 40 long minutes in which the employees looked at their nails, fixed their hair, yelled at their managers and chatted among them careless of the room full of people waiting for them, it was finally my turn. I told the employee I wanted to send the package and the characteristics of the delivery, she made a face as if I had just told her to hold a bunch of cr*p in her hand and said it was not possible because it was not the right measure. I took out the specifics I printed out from their website and explained that it said in their website it was actually the right measure. Then she said it was not possible because the country I wanted to ship it to was not in the list for the counties with that shipping option. I took out the print from their website with the list of countries and turns out it was actually on the list. Then she simply said she was not going to accept it, that I should go to another post office... The thought of jumping over the counter and banging her head against it was so tempting but then I remembered it wouldn't be very yogi of me to do it so I decided to do as she said and went to the central post office near Piazza Cordusio, a 5 minute walk away, where a kind employee took my number after just 5 minutes and took my package with no issues or problems for the shipping I wanted, and she even smiled! So my advise to you all is, never go to this post office, make a longer walk and go to the central, bigger one in Cordusio square.
