Ahhh the Post office, or should it be Arrghhh the Post office..? So many times the best laid lunch…read moreplans for the day can be disrupted by having to "nip in there" for a second, only to still be waiting in line 30 minutes later as the queue snakes out the door. If the truth be known, the Edgeley Post office isn't as bad as the Manchester city centre ones, but it still gets crazy busy around lunch time, pension day (Weds) and Saturday morning. Basically you just want to go early morning or late afternoon - that's the smart move to make sure you're not caught out! On offer at Edgeley Post office is the usual counter service where you can send parcels, letters etc, pay bills, buy phone credit etc and the staff are always pretty friendly and up for a chat.

Went to the Post Office (near to The Plough and the Co-op). Waited outside to see if the proprietor…read morewould come out and speak to me. Could not go in, sign said no dogs due to 'a number of incidents', but guide dogs are allowed in. Waited 5 minutes, the proprietor who was stacking cards in the greeting card racks came out. I said that I needed to send an urgent letter. She would not let me in, but said I could tie my dog to the handle outside. I said it was a high value dog, rare breed did not want to chance it in getting it stolen. She wpuld not help. I thought she could have taken my letter, given her the money for posting, problem solved. Pathetic, I wish that Post Office every success, selling their cards and wrapping paper. I will take my business elsewhere, and I will not be sending my staff to send parcels from there in the future. In regards to 'a number of incidents' I was wondering if they have had a number of bad experiences with non-guide dogs. I mean, my dog is only 4 months old and she never said or showed any intention of holding up and robbing the Post Office. I would be interested to know if there is a dominant breed that has caused an unfortunate 'number of incidents'. Like to see some E-fit photos. As my local post office for three years, I used this place a fair bit. It is located at the back of…read morethe Londis shop, making it easy to combine with picking up a copy of the Guardian (on offer at the student price for everyone) or some chocolate digestives. The post office itself isn't very nice to look at. There is an A4 sign printed out to warn you of just about everything the post office doesn't do, or that you shouldn't do in the post office. Despite the fact that there is always a long queue at this post office, the staff are really helpful and seem to be patient with people who can't speak English well or at all. The annoying thing about this post office is that the post office shop is not actually a part of the post office, therefore if you want a jiffy bag or some parcel tape you have to queue up in the Londis queue and then queue again at the post office. I found this out the hard way (after putting the contents of my parcel into the Jiffy bag, writing on it and spending 15 minutes queuing at the post office), but later discovered that had I have read the A4 sign I would have known better.

So, I realised, there was only one thing for it: eBay. During what I like to term my eBay Months, I visited this post office around three times a week. I, too, was at first stung by the confusing queue-here-for-this, here-for-that system, but once I worked out my arse/elbow dilemma, I was right on track! The queue here can be massive around lunchtime, but it shouldn't take you more than 25 minutes to be served. The staff are the same every day, and in my eBay Months I built up quite a bit of banter with Young Post Office Man and Grumpy Old Post Office Witch. The counter staff know basically everything about post, which means they serve very efficiently (hence the fast queue). Annoyingly, there seems to be a total signal-blackhole in the queue, meaning you can't even text your way out of boredom. I am absolutely being 100% honest when I say I prefer this post office to the one in the city centre. It's a good honest postie's, with ugly greetings cards, bad radio, and grumpy staff. Hazel Grove Post Office is located inside Asda, I do find the location to be rather unusual as it…read moreis in the annex of an Asda store, it is close to the tobacco/stationary/book areas, it feels like it's apart of the store when it's actually a separate Post Office which ASDA operate. The opening hours are pretty good, much better than the location in the town centre as the Post Office stays open until 6 pm Monday to Saturday, although it is closed on Sunday's, even though the main ASDA store is open. The queuing system could be better organised as people were queuing from both sides so it was a bit of a mess, this is why I prefer the ticket system which larger crown post offices have, or the self-serve postage machines, the latter is in use at the nearby Post Office in Stockport but not here. The staff didn't seem too friendly, she just seemed to do my return without saying anything to me, I did have to stretch through the gap slightly to get my receipt which she just left, she seemed more eager to serve customers fast rather than make any general conversation or even explaining the process (For example as she randomly left her desk with my parcel) 3* - Still a reliable Post Office location which is the best Post Office in the Stockport area in terms of opening hours, it can be a little messy, and it is hard to find at first, the service could be better but it is OK here. I would return but only on the basis of the opening hours.

Oh, I love me a good Post Office. The little critters are closing down left right and centre, and I…read morewas absolutely gutted when the one which lived opposite the Royal Apartments in Salford gave way to mere sandwiches and newsagentery. Where was I to get my Euros? What about that unfathomably large parcel I wanted to ship to somewhere silly? They might as well have trod upon my heart. And then I moved to the South Suburbs, and discovered this little gem en route to the Wilmslow Road section of Withington, approximately 30 seconds stroll from my new home, right next to Deco. How boss is that? I can pop along, do something boring and Post Officey, and then treat myself to some vinyl or a classic 80s movie on DVD. This Post Office is a good-un. Instead of simply being a small concession in a shop, as they so often are these days, Withington's tiny treat offers everything the quintessential suburban Post Office should. Random accessories like scarves, rolls of Munchies and those After Eight sweets, a tiny bit of pick n' mix, cards and stationery. Plus the people who run it are nice. Everyone comes here, from students to old folk (who usually arrive at the same time mid-afternoon), and it's housed in a quaint little building. I'm definitely a fan. Withington Post Office, please don't fall victim to this Post Office Plague that seems to be claiming so many victims. If I ever have to take a bus to post a letter, I'll cry.
