After my wife & I recently experienced Mamma Agata's cooking class, I quickly realized that writing…read moremy review would not be that easy. That's because words alone are truly not sufficient to explain the entire experience from start to finish. First of all, the class takes place at Mamma Agata's home in Ravello and it is situated in the high elevation of the mountains overlooking the water. The views are priceless and will take your breath away. You may see donkeys that are used to help farmers gather and move the incredible lemon crops. Chiara, Mammas daughter, now conducts the classes and is wonderful and so knowledgeable and welcoming. You will spend the day cooking with Chiara and her sous chef and learning about the proper rules and techniques required to create Italian cuisine. You will also drink excellent wine while cooking and eating! Time is given to relax and walk around the terraced vegetable and flower gardens before returning to the kitchen. All the while you will get to know the other guests which is a lot of fun. We did not want the class to end but we walked away with a once in a lifetime experience and memory that exceeded all expectations! We strongly recommend that you hire a driver to get you back and forth from Mamma Agata's home & to start the process of getting a reservation early. We also suggest not eating much before you go.. you'll be eating plenty of great food all day. Don't forget your camera! Also, you will have time to order her products before you go if you wish. There is no pressure to do so. Don't miss this experience!!

When I think back to all my trips to Europe, all the sites and restaurants, this is absolutely at the top of my list for most memorable experiences. Let me paint the picture for you. It's an all day cooking class at Mamma's home in Ravello. We hired a driver who picked us up and dropped us off in Positano - I recommend you do the same and hire a driver. Upon arrival you're greeted with a warm smile, hug, and hello from Chiara, Mamma's daughter, who ultimately runs the show. You're then greeted with the best lemon cake you'll ever have in your life. Once the whole group arrives, Chiara sets the stage for the day and everyone heads to the kitchen and the cooking begins. Chiara, her husband Gennaro, and of course, Mamma, do all the cooking as they share tips and tricks. The wine starts flowing, the sampling begins and the day just progresses from there. Their home is stunning - it's located on a cliff and the views are special. Our group was great - about 12 people or so (mainly married couples). The food was incredible - such good quality and taste. Those fritters...are you kidding me?!? This is not a cheap experience, but it's one you will never forget.

We began at 10 am. We drove in by taxi from Positano to the main square because apparently there is no drop off/pick up anywhere else in the town. We walked about 20 minutes to the farm - we got lost a little bit but you just have to follow the main road. The farm tour was very educational - our guide explained about the history, farming practices, the hard labor and quality of these lemons. We started the tour with fresh lemon slices and ended with scrumptious lemon snacks ( cake, sorbet, lemonade and limoncello). For the cooking class, we helped make 3 dishes, including a deeeelicious lemon pasta, and had an incredible 4 course meal with wine and limoncello! I loved getting to taste every part of the lemons and in many different ways. This was one of the best meals in Amalfi Coast and one of the top experiences. Everyone was very friendly and nice. I cannot recommend this enough!

We waited at the bus stop where we were introduced to our host, Antonella. It was us and 3 other couples; 2 of them were also on their honeymoon and the other were on their babymoon. Antonella took us around Praiano where we foraged for our food. She also was very knowledgeable with the area and was telling us little stories. After about 1-2 hours, we then went up to the restaurant, M'Ama (I believe that was the name). It was beautiful -- had a great view of the water and mountains. We then met Antonio who also helped us during our cooking class. We had a beer tasting and then 2 wine tastings. We made our own pasta, we tasted a bunch of different cheeses, we made a salad, dessert, it was all so fun. The time FLEW. The food was DELICIOUS and the experience was so unique and cool. I highly recommend doing this if you are in the area -- well worth the money!

We did the Master Class and made gnocchi with a basil pesto, a meatball pie/casserole and a lemon almond cake. The class size is max of 12 people but we got lucky and were the only ones that class! The cooking class is held inside of the Michel'angelo restaurant which is stunning! Greenery and lemon's everywhere. We walked in and met Chef Gianluca and his wife, Holly and they immediately offered us to sit and relax with a glass of Prosecco. After our fill of Prosecco we headed to the kitchen and got cooking. Gianluca is a really talented Italian chef who taught us many things about Italian cooking styles and ingredients. Alex and I both cook so we really enjoyed learning new ways to cook in the kitchen. Also they grow most of their own ingredients and make their own wine! Holly is Australian so we were able to converse the most with her and she was breaking down the processes for us. She was so friendly and a sensational woman! After we were done cooking and having copious amounts of wine we sat down to enjoy our 3 course lunch and boyyyyy did we make some delicious food! Never had anything like the casserole and can't wait to make these at home! Ciao Holly & Gianluca we will see you again next time!

AND they have their own wine, which was crazy delicious. We ordered several dozen bottles to be shipped home. Our cooking experience was centered around lemons, which is surely appropriate and yummy delicious. First we made homemade limoncello. Then a lemon torte, much like Capri's torte known as a specialty of the island. Then lemon sauce on ravioli and lemon based linguini. I admit to being not much of a chef, however today I felt like one. Ingredients so simple. Instructions simple. John Luca, a fourth generation Caprese, made our instruction and efforts so simple and easy to follow at home. It just was, in one word, divine. Holy, John Luca's wife of three years is an Australian attorney who could not be happier and more welcoming. The duo are an exceptional pair and even if you are not a chef (like me) this is an absolute MUST DO while vacationing on Capri.

I had almost given up until I stumbled onto the Sorrento Cooking School at Esperidi resort. For €60/person (cash only) my husband and I were able to enjoy a four hour cooking class in a beautiful and clean setting. The class was taught by an Italian chef that spoke only a few words of English so she had a British woman (who had been living for years in Italy) to translate for her. Very little was lost in translation. First we made pizza fritti (individually sized fried pizza dough topped with homemade marinara sauce, parmesan cheese, and basil). Afterwards we were treated to a glass of Prosecco and invited to enjoy our pizza outdoors on their beautiful patio complete with tall lemon trees. We also made cheese filled ravioli, white fish and potatoes, and tiramisu. At the end of the class we all sat at a communal table to enjoy the fruits of our labor with as much water and wine as our hearts desired! We were sent home with an apron and a copy of all the recipes we had just prepared. I highly recommend this class for anyone who would like to bring a taste of Italy back home.
