My aunt wanted to come here for lunch on her 60th birthday so we dropped in for takeout. The women working at the counter were super friendly and remembered my aunt from when she used to eat there with her work colleagues more than a year prior. We got our order quickly after placing it and the restaurant was clean, bright, and well-organised. We loved the welcoming staff and speedy service. The chicken roti was delicious, I loved the curry on the chicken and how well it paired with the roti. Despite putting it in the microwave, the roti still kept the right texture without getting super chewy. The ox tail and rice were cooked perfectly. I loved how tender the meat was and it fell off the bone. I loved the curry and how savoury it was. The whole dish was melt in your mouth good. I don't eat ox tail often, but I enjoyed it thoroughly. The pork we ordered was so tender and tasty, it cut like butter in my plate. The fat was so delicious and I loved every moments of it. I had the pork roti last and it was delicious. My aunt said all the food had a party in her mouth. Everyone at the table loved all the dishes and went back for seconds and thirds. I'm normally a picky eater and this was my first time trying Caribbean food but I'm definitely a convert because it was phenomena. I'll definitely have to come back for more next time I'm in Mississauga. read more

The food was the most bland food I have had in a very long time. Jerk pork had maybe a dash of salt on it for seasoning. Rice and peas tasted like nothing. The curry goat gravy, let's just say I'm thankful I did not order curry goat. Service and ambiance were mediocre. Keep it moving, there is nothing to see and taste here. read more

I love Portland Jerk. The jerk chicken pork goat curry and chicken curry are all fantastic. Been going here for many years. If you want to try it stop by for the special on a Tuesday afternoon. Your mouth and tummy will be happy and so will you pocket! After that go back for everything else. read more

I have not had Portland Jerk in a while. I ordered the jerk chicken dinner and the jerk pork dinner. I was a little disappointed with the jerk and felt it was dry. The jerk chicken dinner was great! Not a big fan of coleslaw with raisins. Back to Mr. Jerk for me. read more

I have been going here for decades Quality is always consistent. I love the jerk pork and the curry goat. And the coleslaw is delicious. Never disappointed read more

I'm a fan of Jamaican food especially when it's spiced with traditional flavors like it should be. However, Portland Jerk kinda falls short here. I had the Oxtails with rice and peas which were cooked fine but lacked any of the flavors I'm used to. Tasted just like an American beef stew rather than Jamaican Oxtails with spicy scotch bonnet peppers, thyme, green pepper, pimento, etc. No butter beans in the stew either. The rice and peas falls short as well being quite bland, little in the way of peas, and no coconut, or thyme to flavor. They don't carry Jamaican patties either. Will likely skip this place in the future in favor of some of my other tried and true places. read more

Jerked Chicken . Not impressed, maybe because I'm used to authentic Jamaican tastes but this falls way short. Jerked chicken must but spicy, there ought to be a 'zing'. Maybe I visited on a bad day as other reviewers have been giving high praises to this location. read more

Portland Jerk has THE best oxtail and jerk pork I have ever tried in my LIFE! I always joke to my friends that if I were famous and out of the country, I would have Portland Jerk flown to me. That's how much I need it in my life lol. I've been coming here since high school and I am now 27. I'll never stop coming here. I've tried MANY Caribbean places in search of something on par or even better than Portland and I just cannot find one. The oxtail is more than fall of the bone. It's like melt of the bone. Paired with the rice and peas. Omg, heaven. Their jerk pork is just as tender and cut into perfect bite size pieces. I also have yet to find a Caribbean spot that is up to par with Portland's jerk pork. Don't forget to get oxtail gravy on your jerk pork! Can't have it any other way! They are not stingy on your meat or rice. A meal usually lasts me a lunch and dinner lol. Seriously. you don't know oxtail (or jerk pork) until you've come here. Try it!! read more

Edit: made this a 5 star review. Why didn't I in the first place? Proceed to original review... Some friends said this place is known for their jerk pork. Finally made it over and ordered the small portion with rice and peas. When I received the box, it felt a comparable weight to a newborn baby. Came back to the office and it completely filled a large plate - and it wasn't 90% rice either, there was a lot of pork. The pork was very tender and well seasoned and even a unique taste. There were a couple fatty parts, but that's the cost of having tender meat and if that's not your thing, but be sure to have a knife. Rice and peas met the standard and wasn't clumpy - so it was fresh. Very solid dish and will be back for sure. read more

I have loved the food here and been coming since it first opened. Our family favorites are the oxtail and curried goat, but the jerk chicken is delicious too! Highly recommend for authentic Jamaican taste! read more

Good food! Shitty that the service is not. It is family ran and small place... more a pick up your food and go... no real dine in option here. New restuarant as the plaza has recently been renovated. So the parking is a lot better than it was. read more

Dayyyyyyummmmmmmmmm! Went on a discovery day in Brampton and had Caribbean food on my mind, more specifically Jamaican eats. Not patties, not jerk Chicken but some wholesome Rice and pease slathered in Oxtail sauce and a massive pile of pork all over it. I'm not jerking you around either.... but Portland Jerk just might be. They've been jerkin' it in the same semi-run down plaza for 20 years, but when you're having a good jerk you really don't care where you are or who you're with, all is good in the world. The staff here were so happy to find out it was our first time, and they proudly boasted about their menu and how long they've been here and how people keep coming back. They really didn't need to sell me, I was there to eat and nothing was gonna stop me. I went with a small because we had other food stops to make and hoe-leeeeee-guyyyyyy, that small could have fed 2 people no problem mon. Legit, I don't know who the large is for but when the small is packed with just rice and peas to the brim of the container and THEN they add the same portion size of charred, succulent, juicy pork on top... well don't make any plans for your afternoon except chillin' Even now I'm droolin as I relive my experience. Amazing? Definitely. Best ever? Likely. Will I be back - already doing so next Tuesday with friends. Eatcrest Out PS - most of the dishes come in large and small sizes, EXCEPT for Oxtail, Large only so come hungry boi! read more

If you're a fan of jerk, go here. If you're not a fan of jerk, go here. Been here multiple times myself. So good! Just FYI though, there's not much space to sit inside if you're in a group, and all that's there is bar stool sort of seating. read more

I don't mind being a "jerk" if it means I'll be eating this delicious food every day. This restaurant is located at the corner of Torbram and Queen, inside a plaza. I decided to come here based on the reviews with co-workers. Small store with only counter seating available. It looks like takeouts is the popular option. This is what we did. You place your order first and then you pay. Prices are reasonable and food comes out fairly quick. I ordered the large Jerk Pork. It comes with rice and a very tiny container of coleslaw. I did not ask for any jerk sauce or oxtail sauce but I should have. Even without the sauce, the pork was tender and moist. The rice is okay but the coleslaw is better. Too bad that they don't give you more. My co-workers ordered the Pork and Chicken Rotis. The Chicken is boneless. It does not come with Potatoes. They were good but the Jerk is better. I want to order the Jerk Chicken next time. The rating is closer to 4.5* based on the food alone. Not ideal to eat in knocks half of star down. Highly Recommended! #11 of 2018 read more

I tried this place out in January 2019 for the first time and was happy with my meal but it didn't wow me to come back again since its out of the way for me. I ordered the stewed chicken which was $10.49 plus tax. The chicken was tender and was cooked in a sweet sauce with carrots. The sauce was flavourful but a little too sweet for me. The portion was decent for the price and the rice was cooked prefectly. I think I would give this place a second chance and try out one of the specialities such as the jerk chicken or ox tail. The interior is not that inviting so I would consider this more of a take out restaurant. The two girls I spoke to were very helpful and friendly. read more

The cashier's attitude was so bad I left the store without getting the food.Extremely poor customer service wouldn't recommend.

I came here to try out Caribbean food. This is a small business and can be found in a plaza in Brampton. The business has a few stools on the side walls that you can eat there. They also have a few Caribbean products that you can buy like jerk chicken sauce. The business is narrow. I asked what is the best and the server said "everything!". hmm... no such thing as everything. I decided to try the pork with rice and oxtail sauce. I also decided to order jerk chicken by the pound. I ordered 1 pound of jerk chicken. The pork with rice tasted weird. it has some gamey taste to it. not sure if it was the sauce or the pork, but there was some weird taste to it. I wouldn't order it again. I then went on to try the jerk chicken. The jerk chicken was overcooked and burnt. It has a lot of black burnt skin on it. I wouldn't come back here again. There's something not quite right with their food. uggg... read more

I grew up in Mississauga but never really made my way to Brampton to eat. I was invited out to Brampton for a discovery day of eating and on the recommendation of a blogger pal, was told that Portland Jerk was the place to go. The place is located in a dirty little strip mall that you wouldn't think much of. The location is small, with a take-out counter and seating for maybe 8 people total. We arrived around 11:40 am and the place was empty. At 12 pm on the dot, the place had a line-up almost out the door. The owners take pride in all their dishes and have been in business for 20 years. The small jerk pork I ordered (which seriously could have fed two people for $6.75) comes served up with rice and peas and creamy coleslaw. My advice: get your jerk pork drizzled in oxtail sauce. You will not be disappointed. Since my visit, I have recommended this place to at least half a dozen people and now I'm recommending it to you, Yelpers. Get your butts out to Portland Jerk. It's worth the trek out to Brampton. read more

Great location in a plaza & plenty of parking. Nice establishment, quite busy at times. Despite it being busy, my server still acknowledged me & apologized for the wait. Great food & reasonable prices. Will visit again. read more

Definitely the worst service I've experienced so far at a food establishment so far. I know Caribbean places don't always have the best rap when it comes to customer service but this place was Terrible. The woman working the counter was clearly gossiping about me to another worker and laughing while I was trying to order. I found this super disrespectful and I couldn't help but feel a bit discriminated against. I love learning about new cultures and cuisines and hate feeling discriminated against when I'm just trying to learn. After being laughed at and being talked about during my whole ordering process I just advised to please cancel my order and left. read more

As a long time customer, Portland Jerk has to be my favorite Jerk spot in the Greater Toronto Area. It has a mom and pop type of feel and the staff are always friendly. Good local eat, coleslaw is the best in town . Great jerk pork , great oxtail, and great roti. Can't go wrong with their jerk chicken either

I've never had a jerk chicken dinner that gave so much chicken. Huge portion size. The jerk chicken was good but the jerk pork was really good, it was not dry it was moist and very tasty. Also the two ladies at the front were very polite, I couldn't ask for better customer service. I would go back again no questions asked. read more

Heard about this place and finally decided to try it. It was around lunchtime and there was construction, and not to much parking. The lovely ladies serving the hungry crowd were fast efficient and very friendly, which is pretty rare for a Jamaican place. Placed my order for Stew beef with rice and peas and coleslaw, was told It would be a 10 minute wait...don't mind waiting for awesomeness. 5 minutes later I was served. The beef was super tender and delicious, topped off with homemade pepper sauce, stew beef is my new favorite! Ordered a large and wasn't even a quarter way done and I was full! The value to quality of this place is comparable to Chinese, you get a lot of food at a fair price. Lady even let me off like 35 cents cuz I only had a 20. Big chain restaurants would hand you All nickels and pennies in change. Fuck all those franchises overpriced corporate restos, they get too greedy and the quality or care a mom and pop shop can provide is just non existent! Portland Jerk is my new Jamaican go To! read more

Rude! Rude! Rude! Went in got in line - waiting for someone to come out from back. Young lady comes out with orders to go. Cashes people out great. I expressed my dissatisfaction to both - said stick this place up your #!! Went down the road to better people and better service. read more

A solid 4.5 if I could. Very true to the other posters, the taste is killer. Ordered the much hyped jerk pork with oxtail sauce. The small portion itself is huge. Came out sizzling hot and fresh tasting. The charred yet succulent tender pieces with the carrib rice was really cool. read more

Love/hate relationship with this place - absolutely LOVE the food but hate knowing that I have to travel to Brampton for it. Having been to a lot of Caribbean spots in Scarborough, Portland is probably the best I've ever had. I got the Jerk Pork dinner on rice and Curry Chicken dinner on rice. The portions were greaaaaaaat - you'll definitely have leftovers. The pork was so good - seasoned to perfection, juicy and tender. This was probably my favourite and I crave it pretty often now. The curry chicken was also really good. The only downside is that I wish the coleslaw portion was bigger. The price for the portion you're getting is not bad either. If you're ever in the area I highly suggest trying this place out. You won't be disappointed!! read more

Hello Yelpers! A coworker told me to try Portland out since it was always on his way to work. I visited with my brother and let me tell you there were a lot of people purchasing the patties. I think I'll come back and try out their patties. However, if you e been reading my other reviews, I love jerk chicken. I came to try their version of jerk chicken and I was disappointed. I found it to be not flavourful and dry. The rice and peas was a disappointment too. Dare I say the Sunrise Jerk Chicken bear my house taste better. On the other hand, their boneless chicken roti was good! It isn't the dry type. It is really saucy. My family enjoyed their roti more than the jerk chicken. Price was appropriate to portion size. The service was slow. The parking space is good since it is a box plaza. I'd come again and try their beef patties. read more

The first thing I noticed was how clean the place was which is always a good look when you're going into a food place. They had a lot of drink options. The first con for me would be the customer service. I'm used to the attitude you always get served on the side with any caribbean meal..but this place man...They don't even greet you in a welcoming manner. They basically just say " next what can I get you ". They have the typical jamaican options. Decided to go with the jerk chicken meal...you get a fair amount in the box but the chicken was DRY and lacked so much flavor. Even the gravy was terrible. I had high expectations due to the fact that I was actually recommended this place. But I will definitely NOT be returning. read more

This is my favourite West Indian take out ever !!!!! I've been coming to Portland Jerk for over 11 years ( I work in the area ) the food is consistent, good portion size, reasonable priced as well. I would eat here sometimes 2 times a week. Along with my colleagues- one of our favourite is their Curry Goat!!!!! I love the staff as well - Gary and Shermaine ( she's such a beautiful soul, kind, approachable, always smiling, and very very very welcoming ). I like to mix it up a bit sometimes I'll get the Jerk Pork and even the Jerk chicken with oxtail gravy ( that gravy is a must ) I'll even drive from Etobicoke ( where I live ) to get my fix - it's so good. read more

Delicious Jerk chicken! I came here because of the great reviews as usual and it did not disappoint! I got a pound of Jerk Chicken and my brother got a large Jerk chicken meal. The total was $20 which is a great price for the Portions that you recieve here. The smell of the Jerk sauce is still marinating my car and I wish it could stay there forever. The jerk chicken tasted wonderful and it was not too spicy which I prefer but just sweet enough to add a little flavor boost. I will definitely be coming back here for my Jer Chicken fix and try the Jerk Pork and Oxtail next time! read more

I was craving oxtail and decided to stop by based on the reviews. It was busy but service was quick and friendly. The oxtail was good, could have been cooked a bit longer for my taste and I didn't care for the added sweet taste to the meat but it paired well with rice and coleslaw and was tasty. Best jerk I've had. I often come here for the jerk pork. It's the best jerk pork I've ever had. for $7.50 (+HST), you get a half sized container absolutely packed to the brim with jerk pork and rice and peas. They also give you a small container of coleslaw that I like to mix into the rice when I eat. The jerk flavour at Portland Jerk is unlike a lot of other places where the focus is on the heat - at Portland, the focus is on the flavour. That's pretty much all I've really tried at Portland Jerk, really. Most of the time I like to try different dishes from the menu, but at Portland I just keep getting the pork. They also have a jerk chicken lunch special on Tuesdays where you get a large container for $5 (+HST). I've had it once and it's also quite good. I'm sure you can't go wrong with most of the stuff on the menu so don't be afraid to try other stuff out. PS. The guy at the cashier is also ridiculously good at throwing unwanted receipts into trash cans, so watch out for that. read more
