The Englilsh Breakfast tea (which lets face it is usually standard fare and a little bland and ordinary), turned out to be a Tea Pigs brew. I could tell it was different by the bio degradble tea bag and the actual leaves in the bag. The lady who served me commented on the cream in the milk as it was organic. Now the combination of the milk and the wonderful tea made for a fantastic cuppa. It truly was very tasty and not like any other English Breakfast brew I have ever had. I accompanied my tea with a handmade butter flapjack which melted in my mouth. I was so pleased I purchased a larger flapjack and a packet of tea bags to take home. Sadly they had none of the English brew left but kindly gave me the equivalent number from a fresh catering pack and parcelled it up for me to ensure they got home as fresh as they had come out of the packet. The shop is full of wonderful organic and delciatessen delights and is a real gem in a street full of dowdy shops. I throughly enjoyed my visit and I urge anyone visiting Gloucester to try them.

Costa has always been my favourite coffee. Some may call it a bit boring to always go to the same…read moreplace but it is nice to know sometimes whet you are going to get. This one is situated in a bookshop so not only do you get a good cup of coffee and a nice piece of cake but you can also take a book and have a read while you are having a drink. The only problem with this cafe is that it is so small. They have put out extra seating around the book shop which i really like and wish more places would copy.

Plus i have to love the "proper" pricing of the extras. Penguins at 2 for 50p is as it should be. Toast is pretty tucked away as it stands, on the other side of the docks, but if your going for a stroll its well worth a stop and who knows, as the docks grow time will tell if Toast doesn't become the central place for a toasty snack. They also serve other foods mostly with chips which are well cooked, but vegetarians might struggle. Parking bays are outside, but you will be lucky to get one however there are enough side streets nearby.

The cellar bar is atmospheric and offers something a bit different to most city centre bars. There are regularly changing ales on offer and the staff are quite knowledgeable about those too. They often have live music too - and it is great to have such an intimate venue to watch live bands. Don't try and communicate with them via e-mail though, they never reply. WOW! This place has the WOW factor! It has recently reopened…read more(Used to be called the Golden Cross) and it is ace! Lots of snooks - some with armchairs, all with open fires make this a great place for chilling out with friends, or someone special. The whole building is made of solid wood - it really gives the idea of a quality place. The staff are pretty friendly and welcoming, and tables are cleared quickly. The garden is MASSIVE! and again, all solid wood furniture and decking - it really looks like a quality place. There are no heaters in the garden, but in the summer, it will be a complete sun trap and I think it will be busy! The toilets are up two flights of stairs, so don't leave it until you're desperate!!! This is a Samuel Smiths pub, and as such, don't expect to get anything that is branded in this pub - but actually, it's nice to have a change and Samuel Smiths' cider is lovely..!! The staff are really friendly The food is amazing I had steak and ale pie and vegetables and mash it was all freshly prepared and no prepacked stuff here. Generous sized portions and very tasty.
