This review is specific to THE DISCOVERY LOUNGE AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM which is the…read morebefore/afterschool program directed by Cynthia Smith and is housed at QCSS but not affiliated with the school. I wish that QCSS would get rid of this program and find a better one. This is a warning to all parents, DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD TO THETHE DISCOVERY LOUNGE BEFORE/AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM. https://www.thediscoveryloungease.com/ The Director, Cynthia, charged me today (9/23/22) for the TDL  program, after stating that 9/16/22 would be the last time I would be charged, being that I removed my child from the program on 9/2/22 and he has not attended since. I removed my Kindergartener from the program after only about 2 and a half weeks because she contacted me several times for MINOR instances that should have been managed by the "highly trained" staff at the program. Cynthia contacted me with an attitude and a loud tone of voice and even made a personal attack on me verbally. I am a single, working mom and this has caused extreme stress, anxiety and frustration for me. I have to be the mother and the father for my child and I do discipline him and work with him as much as I can at home. I do my best to teach him proper behavior but he is a 5 year old at the end of the day. I truly feel that he was being ostracized and labeled in this program. It's like she was trying to get him out of the program instead of working with him. Some people do not need to work with kids. Cynthia's lack of professionalism has brought me nothing but distress that I am STILL dealing with it since I got charged AGAIN. I cannot afford to be charged for a program that I am not involved in. She has shown ZERO accountability for overcharging me. No empathy at all. I would recommend that people STAY AWAY from this program unless you want to deal with a constant struggle, being contacted at work every day for the smallest things, being personally judged and attacked. Hopefully no other parents have to deal with what I have been through.

Ms. Lisa is worth her wait in gold! When my (at the time) kindergartener was struggling with his…read morereading, and hating every second of learning his sight words, we enrolled him with Ms Lisa. Within a short period of time he was advancing through the reading stages. And the absolute best part is he was loving it! Now my 3 year old enjoys classes and camps with her also and she's quite the little book worm. The classroom is warm and inviting and she tailors each class to what they're needing each time. We've been coming here for 3 years and while my son is a much stronger reader and doesn't need that help as much, his handwriting is not great and she helps him a lot with that too. I couldn't ask for a better teacher. My hope has always been that my children grow up loving to read as much as me and they're both well on their way thanks to Ms Lisa and her business! It goes without saying, I recommend Ballantyne Reading Academy to all my friends!

Ms. Maureen was my son's teacher when he was in the three year old class. She made the class fun and rewarding. It made me wish that we had sent our daughter ( his older sister) there for the three year old program instead of just the four year old program. Our children both had Ms. Julie for the four-year old class and they LOVED her. She had a way of tapping into their artistic side and letting them explore their imaginations through play and art. They also had a religious education and a physical fitness program that was included with tuition. Both of my children are now in elementary school and are exceeding our expectations with their academic abilities. I have to credit Stepping Stones for laying the foundation for their success. It is what Kindergarten used to be. Getting children ready for school while teaching them how to get along.

I recently removed my daughter from this facility. The pros are that the teachers in the infant…read moreroom are amazing. Amy, Mary, and Linda were all spectacular and treated my daughter well (they are the reason this review gets 3 stars). Once we moved to the older infant room, however, my daughter began having strong negative reactions to one of the teachers. She would grip my husband's shirt and become rigid when the teacher came near and at one point tried to hit her. My daughter usually will go to anyone so this was unnerving to say the least. We left for a variety of reasons but this sealed the envelope. Other things that impacted our decision were the hours (only open til 6 which for me was difficult) and the lack of education or curriculum. Even though she was young I expected more interactive learning based on the five star rating. At the end they gave me a folder with a word document describing the different aspects of her "development" that included pictures of her playing with various toys. They were all dated April 2015 and she's been in daycare since September of 2014. Guess she only learned in April. OR we took pictures in April and tried to sell them as activities once someone decided to leave. Anyway - bottom line - infant room is great. After that may want to move somewhere that is more professional especially if you want your toddler engaged and proof thereof.
