The Farmers Daughter - Coffee station and towels waiting for the cinnamon rolls

I keep seeing friends pictures having the cinnamon rolls on Sunday here. My turn to give it a go…read more I've been here a few times for veggies and the like and was sure I had not reviewed as of yet. Owner operated and staffed, it's a small business you can support, the items come from their Farm two miles from the stand! They carry everything for your meal preparation needs are. Stocking seasonal produce, local favorites, and state favorites. We arrived just after the flags were hoisted that they were open. Plenty of parking and handicap accessible. Store is perfect sized with ample walking and items displayed at arms length. A farm stand decorated with signage and pictures. Owner greeted us and asked if she could help us find anything, we were looking in the bakery case and did not see the rolls we've heard so much about. It's Sunday and it's known as cinnamon roll day; they are displayed and served in the coffee room, around the corner. We were so early the rolls had not come out yet. With in three minutes they came out hot with melting icing YUM!! You're choice to take a plate or to go container. Plenty of napkins and forks. We sat in our car since it was a cold fall morning to enjoy our treat. The dough has a nice buttery flavor, dry yet not crumbly. The cinnamon and sugar layers had the perfect amount of each that one did not over power the other. For someone who feels breakfast is not complete without bacon, I really enjoyed. $2.99 each was reasonable.

Mountainside Grocers is a small grocery store adjacent to Sugarloaf Resort, just off Access Road,…read moreand the only grocery store for many a mile in any direction. I think the closest large grocery store is an hour away. Not surprisingly, given its proximity to the ski resort, they have skier- / traveler-friendly prepared fare (e.g. hot and cold sandwiches, salads, fried and roasted chicken). But there's so much more: a good selection of fresh produce, meat, yogurt, butter, baked goods, canned goods, medicines, wine, beer and liquor, milk, ice cream, birthday cakes (frozen)... In short, anything you would find at a much larger grocery store and just about anything you might need to prepare a good meal chez vous. The biggest kicker of all? Prices are actually reasonable! They are, to my great surprise, not at all rapacious, especially in light of the store's relatively remote location, and even downright inexpensive for some sale items. We recently picked up Persian cucumbers for less than $2.50 a package, a 1.5 qt carton of ice cream for less than $5, a large, juicy, well-made rotisserie chicken for somewhere around $10, a huge bunch of kale for less than $3, and a reportedly fantastic beef brisket burrito for around $10. This kitchen knows what it's doing! My sense is that plenty of locals shop here on a regular basis. (People in the neighborhood where we are staying tell us they used to send their then-little kids out by snowmobile for groceries here.) Someone -- I think one of the owners -- was training his young daughter to use the cash register on a recent visit. A great family-owned business, this place. I love it!
