It serves as a grand gateway to the heart of Florence bustling with locals and tourists, strategically positioned in the northwest corner of the historical center. Opened in 1935, it features a spacious entrance hall with a glass and steel roof. The station's main entrance leads directly to a large hall where tickets are purchased and information on several digital boards displaying train schedules prominently. There are 19 clearly marked platforms, and directional signs in multiple languages help guide passengers to their trains. The station houses several eateries, from quick snacks and coffee bars to sit-down restaurants. My partner, our friends, family member, and I waited here last Wednesday for our high-speed Italo train on our last leg to Rome. Andiamo!

Sooooo easy to use, and WAY INEXPENSIVE!…read more We were doing a bit of sight-seeing outside of Florence, and hiring a private driver just wasn't going to cut it for us. We didn't need (or want!) to spend a ridiculous amount of money, and where we were going there were no trains. One day we had lunch reservations in Panzano in Chianti -- approx 60min ride only 3.80EUR each way. The other trip was to visit the Florence American Cemetary - approx 30min ride, only 2.30EUR each way. So basically, the SITA location is probably Southwest of the SMN train station. So if you were facing the train station, it would be to your left. This is the small little hub, complete with waiting area, for the regional buses. The buses were very clean, and in good condition. More like coach buses - - much better than what I was expecting. You go inside, and purchase your ticket from the office - -you can purchase round-trip if you'd like. Or... you can also purchase the one-way from your destination too, most likely at a Tabacchi store. Buses are very timely and on-schedule. I would definitely recommend using the SITA for any regional travel.

By the time we finished touring with Roberto for two days we felt that we knew so much about the area, history and culture of the region. Roberto's knowledge or art, history, food and culture was so impressive. The tour we did with Roberto was much more than him driving us from place to place. Each place we went was so carefully planned and curated. We visited wineries, vineyards and a sheep farm that makes cheese. With his help, we were able to visit every place we wanted to see as well as some smaller unknown, hidden gems. We saw so many beautiful landscapes and Roberto stopped frequently for us to take in the views! I cannot say enough wonderful things about Roberto. We hope to go back soon to tour Umbria and Florence with Roberto.
Literally across the street from the Duomo…read more We walked here from the train station... It's far when you're lugging your luggage. You are really in the centre of it all when you stay here. We buzzed their suite when we arrived and got let in. I waited at the bottom with my suitcase because a) I am lazy and b) my hubby was there to check us in and tell me what's what once he found out. When he came down to get me, I hauled my luggage up the flights of stairs. I could have taken the elevator, but it's one of those small, metal, open ones... I can huff it up. Our room is pretty standard. We chose the "shared bathroom" option, so we are sharing with one other room. I don't know if there is an option to have an ensuite here. I think that since it's an old house converted, there would only be a couple of rooms (if any) that would have that. When we opened our window, if we looked to the left, we had a perfect view of the Duomo. There is wifi, but neither of us could connect. How am I going to play Tapped Out? Luckily, there are other places that have wifi. I didn't want to bother either of the guys working there. My Simpsons could wait. This place is so central. It was so easy for us to walk about the city and come back to our room for a little rest. We were given codes to the gate and the main door rather than keys so we could come and go as we please. I would totally stay here again.

Had to approach someone twice to get assistance, and it seemed that they definitely had a preference to cater first towards Italian speaking customers. The salesperson did not really explain the details of the sale to me, and had just noted that there was more savings if I had bought more than one pair. So when I saw the total at the cash register to buy two pairs, I changed my mind and decided to forgo one pair. The staff seemed a bit pushy for the sale and asked me quite directly, 'Why? You're getting £10 off.' I explained my reasons but it was clear that the staff at the checkout didn't care, and seemed to give me lots of attitude afterwards. Felt like a walking $ sign for the sales staff. Tourists beware!

I feel bad giving this place a bad rating because the old man who was our host was so nice and friendly...but I must be honest so my fellow yelpers don't waste their time and money eating here like I did. Look, the place itself is very charming. The interior decor is homey and it is tucked away in a side street away from the main road, which often signals it is not as touristy. I am all about that local, hidden gems, and this place was giving off that vibes 100 percent which is why I chose to step in. My biggest mistake was not reading previous Yelp review no matter how hungry and peckish I was and just wanting to go sit somewhere. My partner and I went with the 13 euro per person lunch set and it was possibly the worst food we have eaten, not just in Firenze or Italy, but in our overall dining experience. The first course was actually not too terrible, we had spaghetti bolognese and polenta with meat ragu. They were served piping hot and perhaps we were just too hungry at that point that anything tasted good or it's really hard to mess up pasta as an Italian, but edible. It set the tone and we had high hopes for next dishes. Now onto the second - pizza margherita and chicken cutlet with potatoes. From here everything went downhill. My partner's pizza literally tasted like Elio's frozen pizza and my cutlet was like a giant chicken nugget and potatoes, drenched in oil and soggy. These were clearly frozen food out of package. Then the dessert - creme caramel and fruit salad, again tasted like they came straight from package. Creme caramel was like that you find in plastic pack and fruit salad was in syrup and obviously from a can. Sigh. I could've prepared the entire meal for 6 euro by buying frozen and packed items from Conad. We were so sad we wasted an eating opportunity in Florence by going to this place. Sorry to say, we will not be visiting this place ever again and warn other yelpers to stay clear unless the restaurant decides to do a major 180 degree on food.
Worst food ever. Period. This 1/5 star review has nothing to do with the service, value, or venue,…read morewhich were all wonderful. It has everything to do with the lack of a damn that the chef gives to food quality and preparation here. My partner and I joked earlier today that we're such North American food noobs that we wouldn't be able to distinguish between good versus bad Italian food. However, after dining here we now fully appreciate what BAD Italian food in Italy tastes like. We were so excited that a place so close to the Duomo with a vegetarian Prix fixe menu exists. The vegan ribollita soup was fine- decent portion size and not overly salty as at other ristorantes it seems. The vegetarian spinach and ricotta ravoli was OK too, though partner said it tasted like it was premade in huge batches then reheated, but can't go wrong with carbs and cheese. The secondi plates though, oh gosh... My fish with fagioli (white beans) was canned food essentially. Salty canned tuna over top canned soggy white beans. My partner's vegetarian Margherita pizza was the WORST pizza he claims he's ever had, even worse than frozen North American pizza. Dry, cardboard consistency, processed shredded cheese instead of fresh mozzarella, no basil. Partner had trouble stomaching it and for a very non-picky eater like him this means a lot. Fruit salad to finish was too sweet and syrupy. Better off buying from a fruit cart like the one outside the train station. Never coming back.
There are some things you must know before riding the buses in Florence. First of all, you MUST…read morehave a ticket, and you must stamp your ticket on the bus the first time you get on one. Tickets can be purchased at many locations, such as tobacconists, newsagents, some coffee shops (anyone with "ATAF" stickers on their shop windows); and from the ATAF booth or two automated ticket vending machines at the Santa Maria Novella train station. They have their own form of police who check passengers on the bus to see that passengers have activated their tickets. If you do not have a ticket or you did not activate your ticket, be prepared for a hefty fine. It is really not worth it. We purchased bus tickets for € 18 each, which covered us for 7 days. A single ticket is € 1.20 and only good for a total of 90 minutes. They have a one day ticket for € 5, a 3-day ticket for € 12, a 7-day ticket for € 18 and a daily family for € 6. There are three doors on the buses (except on the small busses); the front and back ones are for getting on and the middle one is for getting off. After you get on, make your way to the nearby "ticket validating" machine and put your bus ticket in. The date and time is then printed on the ticket, starting the validity period of your ticket. You basically have 90 minutes on a single-use ticket, so you could get on and off of different buses and still use the same ticket during that time period. Another thing you need to do is to get a bus map that will tell you how to get around the city. It will clearly mark the routes. We liked that many stops had an electronic sign that would tell you how long the wait was for the bus to arrive. The busses were very efficient on this trip. (They were a lot newer than on our last visit.)

My main reason for the lower stars is because you can't buy a new ticket on the bus. There are many outside vendors but still inconvenient. Bottom line...good system to get around Firenze but make sure to buy a ticket at a vendor or at the train station. Also the app is very helpful to see when your bus will arrive.
