Very nice view, would be much better if the council invest more in the area, needs more green areas.

The Clipper Ship - Adelaide

Are you interested in learning about South Australian history? Do you just like boats? If you like…read moreone of the above mentioned, you will like the tour of The Clipper. What an amazing ship! It took a long time, a lot of dedicated people and a whole lot of money to get her back to Australia from Scotland. So, it's worth going to have a look. The ship was used to take the first colonist from England to South Australia. It could fit up to 300 people onboard and was one of the fastest ships to get you here. It was like a jet of ships. I wont tell you anymore of the history side of things, you can learn more about it when you go on the tour. It is a lot bigger than I thought it was going to be. Good headroom inside of the cabin areas as well. Especially in comparison to other ships I have been on. So, I think that passengers had it pretty good on this ship. What is truly amazing is looking at the construction of the ship. All the materials, design and hard work to make it such a solid structure. No wonder it lasted so long. Take note of what the tour guide tells you when s/he explains the materials and processes. What I really do want to say about The Clipper is that you have to admire the hard work of all of the volunteers in looking after this girl and restoring her. It is so important for us to learn about how Australia came to be what it is today. And this is just one part. It is truly a piece of history that I hope continues to survive for generations to admire and day dream about. What was it like travelling on this vessel to a new unknown land? One thing is for sure, the people that travelled on this boat were really brave!

Fort Largs Police Academy

Fort Largs Police Academy

My first introduction to the Fort Largs Police Academy was back in the mid 1970's, whilst I was…read morecompleting My Duke of Edinburgh's Award and I attended the academy to be introduced to His Royal Highness, the Duke of Edinburgh. The old Police Academy was I fear much more interesting than the new, because it incorporated The Fort. And whilst the old academy was private property so to speak, it had an openness to the local community which the modern one with its high fences and automatic gates lacks. For example residents would walk through to and from the beach, visit the Fort and even swim laps in the police pool. Whilst never a candidate of the academy itself, I have attended it as an Officer of an Emergency Service Organisation, a number of times for lectures and conferences, both casual and residential. Some police officers even put the 'fear of God' into Three Cadets on Gate Duty one evening, when they wouldn't allow our pizza delivery driver entry and I had to attend the gate to collect our pizzas (apparently they told the Cadets that I was a Chief Inspector and I wasn't happy about having to drive down to the gate. Certainly explains why they were so helpful cross loading pizzas from one vehicle into the other). And for Six Weeks in the lead up to the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games, I was a Security Officer stated in the Gatehouse at the Main Entrance, performing hourly security patrols throughout the night, walking amongst 'the ghosts' of its history. Eventually perhaps the old academy site will become houses, but whatever happens I hope the history of bygone days will be protected and perhaps that the sense of community can once again return to the academy precinct.

17/12/2011 I want to proudly say that I ENJOY watching…read moreAdelaide sports teams. I am currently working for the 36ers...just started a few weeks ago as the social media writer for official 36ers' twitter and facebook page...was responsible for giving media passes to VIP...and know FULL WELL how awesome the '98-'99 36ers were, before Wollongong Hawks did their thing in the 2000-2001 season. I grew up watching the major Adelaide 36ers changes over time. Let me follow by saying that I can't stand a few (only a few) of the negative fans. Please. I'm an extremely passionate basketball player...and even if I weren't, I like to just sit down and support my home team. And BOY they can be negative. From the direct personal insults at players/coaches/even hardworking staff members, criticisms, to the loud angry boos after a home loss...everything was annoying. Yet somehow, I must stay positive despite the hostile environment. I always enjoy watching a basketball game, whether in front of my big screen TV, in the corporate office, or in the school playground. Even now, I have found memories of that late '90's 36ers team. The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is for a few of the unsupportive fans. ...yet I wonder how this review would change over time, the longer I work there. Will the 36ers make some changes then turn things around next year?....the Yelp world and rest of the NBL Australia followers will have to wait and see.
