We (20 of our family members) ended with a substantial $20 plate of polish standards (sausages, kraut, noodles & cabbage, golubki, and pierogi) at the Elks club. Most boths are run by mom and pop, so they don't flip the tablet to guilt you the mandatory 15% tip for handing you your food. Alleluia!!! The suggested entry fee is only $7! They have actual merchandise to sell here not just arts and crafts. They also have carnival games for kids.

The Apple Cider and Apple Cider Donuts were delicious! I honestly wanted to come back here just to buy some more. They have plenty of other drink and snack options, too. The staff was pretty nice too. There's many things to do like a swing ride, petting zoo, and hayride -- all very fun. I will say, $40 per person is pretty steep for a pumpkin patch. While I had a good time, I kinda had to force myself to do everything to feel like it was worth that much money. Overall, I'd go back, though.

I had only ever been to one drive-in before (the Cascade, now closed), and it's a fun experience, and unusual in the urban setting. You can order food to your car (it's brought over from the concession stand in the indoor soccer arena next door), but we went over to eat there because we also wanted to use the indoor bathrooms (otherwise it's a portapotty). You can either park your car facing forward and sit inside or park backward and tailgate (though outside food and drink are not allowed in). There are also several rows of chairs set up if you don't want to sit in your car. Before this particular show they had various vendors set up as well as a food truck (The Gilty Pig) off to one side of the lot). Tune your radio to 89.1 to get the audio (or just open your windows). Great nostalgic fun in Pilsen!

The movie started late due to technical difficulties and half into the movie, the audio stopped and after 10 minutes, they just skipped to another scene. I came for the Friday fish fry with my father and the nugget, who was a baby at the time. During Lent, this place is PACKED with people on Friday nights. I could not believe it. While waiting for my fish to arrive, I got a glass of wine at the bar. I thought I misheard the price...nope I didn't...it was soooo cheap compared to a bar or restaurant. After I bit into a nice meaty piece of fried fish, I was hooked (buh duh cha). The fish fry continues all year long...not just during Lent. Don't like fish, no problem. They have Italian Beef sandwiches, hot dogs, and fried shrimp. The price of your meal also includes coffee, and cake for dessert. You can't go wrong. Don't forget to bring some cash for the raffles. They usually do a 50/50 raffle, and some other thing. For Valentine's Day there was a delicious pork dinner and a band. For St. Paddy's they do a corned beef dinner. High suggested! This year I enjoyed a delicious plate of marinated, grilled chicken with pita, tzatziki, rice, salad and a mango nectar soda. I could have eaten chicken and tzatziki all day! Also available were kufta, falafel, hummus & pita, stuffed grape leaves, and macaroni bechamel. For dessert I had two of the I-don't-know-how-many variations of baklava. Homemade baklava. So delicious! We then took a tour of the church from a well-prepared and engaging guide. Though we had taken the tour once before, I learned additional facts and traditions this time. If you are interested in architecture, iconography, or comparative religions you must not miss the church tour. Be sure to grab a copy of the pamphlet 'Egypt and The Copts' in the narthex (just inside the doors) of the church. We also attended a lecture by a knowledgeable presenter on the history of Christianity in Egypt. A few of us lingered afterward to discuss (Christian) church history and theology. Students and fans of comparative religions or theology will really enjoy this lecture. It's a great refresher on the history of Christianity in general. In addition, there are books for sale in the bazaar (Nefertiti's Treasures) about Egypt and about the Coptic faith. Now if tours and lectures aren't your thing, you can skip all that and take a camel ride. Yes, a camel ride! How often can you do this in the Western Suburbs? It's quite fun! You can ride alone or with others. This is not just for the kids. Both children and adults enjoy the camel rides. This year my husband and I rode the camel together. If you'd like, you can have your photo taken while on the camel. 4x6 or 8x10. It's a great souvenir of the day. I think the Taste of Egypt is a great fest for anyone. It's very family friendly -- not only can the kids ride a camel, but there's a petting zoo, a moon jump (bouncy house kind of thing) and some creative activities -- but adults without kids (like us) have a great time too. This was my third time going to Baconfest and it was as fun as ever. My favorite part of the 2017 Baconfest was exchanging some pleasantries with Bobby Flay! My life is now complete and you all are cordially invited to our wedding in Spring 2018. Baconfest had 4000 attendees this year! That's just madness. It was as good as ever with all the best restaurants coming out and showing off their best bacon dishes. Uniqueness gets you far at Baconfest and there sure were some cool bacon items. VIP is the best way to do Baconfest. You get in an hour before the masses and can easily hit up the booths with no lines. It's really nice being able to actually talk to the chefs and restaurant reps before they get totally slammed by the crowds. By the time everyone else is let in, you could be mostly done going to all the booths! Bam! It does get warm at the UIC Pavilion so don't bring a coat and be prepared to drink water to stay hydrated. They do of course have tons of bacon cocktails and beer for your pleasure, as well. I truly had a really fun time even though I ate way more any human ever should. Baconfest is probably the best fest in Chicago and I would highly recommend any pork lover attend!

I went to the 9th annual Baconfest here in Chicago, and it was great to hear that a portion of the proceeds go to the Greater Chicago Food Depository. Awesome cause, and so glad that our bacon gluttony can serve a greater good. There were 80+ vendors on opening day when I went. I was fortunate enough to come with my wife who won VIP tickets, so we got a whole hour with other VIP guests and media. Thanks Yelp! Your ego might think that you can take on all the booths, but better check it at the door, because you will hit the proverbial bacon wall sooner than you think. Bacon pho, bacon tacos, bacon lobster bisque, bacon kombucha - you will find it all here! It all adds up rather quickly. Choose your path wisely, and you may find bacon nirvana. If you make it out of here still desiring bacon, you are a true bacon warrior. Wear that badge with honor (or just get a baconfest t-shirt.)

Once you are loaded with food and drinks, head over to the back and grab a seat to enjoy some nice local music. Take the dance floor if you like or just groove on the spot.

Not a fan of BBQ, well there were non BBQ vendors there too. My favorite non BBQ vendors were the Acapulco style Piña Coladas and the wood fire corn. Also, an Australian BBQ vendor offered some of the best cornbread I ever had and Shrimp on a Barbie which was incredible. The shrimp was also very reasonably priced ($6 for 9 shrimp). ... I know you are wondering how can you eat all this stuff while standing. Well, there were table and chairs provided by Budweiser and standing only tables for the transient bunch solely looking for a quick spot to eat quickly. The BBQ vendors had their trophies displayed from various competitions and attendees were able to vote for this year's favorite. ****Most companies accepted credit cards and there was an ATM on site.....The only thing missing was towelettes.
