Chincoteague Island Blueberry Festival - Take the trolley from the school! $1 round trip

First things first: Park at the school and take the trolley over. It's a dollar round-trip and worth it. I think calling it a "Blueberry Festival" was a bit of a stretch. There were some blueberry things, sure, but I think I saw just as many folks selling stuff with lavender in it, but we didn't call it a "lavender festival." There were easily over a hundred vendors on the grounds and maybe 5 of them dedicated to blueberries. Highly recommend the blueberry ice cream from Island Creamery (but if you missed the festival, you can always get it at their storefront). Also, Sugarbakers' blueberry pie was killer, though to be fair, I am a sucker for blueberry pie. There were a few trucks and stands selling proper food, including a shawarma truck and a Greek food truck. So you could get a full meal or just graze from some folks selling snacks and pastries. Lots of artisans selling their wares from clothing, sculptures, jewelry, paintings, etc. Several folks sold their homemade tea blends. There were several musicians on the rotation, so enjoy the live music too! While about half of the vendors were outside, the other half were inside the center and it's a great way to escape the heat and humidity of July and enjoy some AC. The only other review on here (as of this writing) is 9 years old and while I don't know what it was like then, this seemed well-run and quite popular. If you're in the area while it's running, come check it out!

He has no fears about telling a vendor that they are unimportant. and he doesn't promise exclusivity unless you are willing to pay for it. He prefers to have arguments with his staff and vendors in front of customers. he likes to have witnesses, and he likes the drama. The show's customers dont buy much, and they are definitely not flying out the door with high end art. The fact the festival photo is a photo of the guy should speak columns.

My friend bought tickets for him and me for this event after we heard about it on Facebook and saw…read morethe bright, beautiful photos on the event page. For something that's called a "balloon and wine festival" that lasts nine hours, there were no balloons for 7 hours of their 9 hours of operation and no wine tasting. You pay by the glass ($6) or by the bottle. A wine festival does not have just four wines; the range of wines on the Triple Creek Winery website has far more wines than what they offered at the festival. No other wine types. It's extremely misleading. There are vendors that sell arts, crafts, jewelry, Maryland flags painted on wood ($200), and Solar City was even there to sell you energy-efficient solar panels! There's also a gutter-cleaning service ready to explain their products to you. Good grief. Note that these vendors likely paid the festival organizers to have a table/presence at the festival and thus the potential of thousands of future customers. You're paying $20 and fees to be sold the chance that the hot air balloons might go up. $35 on-site parking or $5 off-site parking with a shuttle (a school bus). If you get there at noon, you'll sit around for 8 hours for balloons. These folks cast a wide net for the term "weather permitting," which means anything more than a 6 mph wind the balloons cannot go up. The balloons evidently did go up around 7:30 pm, and the event ends at 9 pm, so that's your window in but there's no way of knowing ahead of time. It's just roll of dice. You go in that sweet window, you're happy; you don't, you're disappointed. My friend spoke to the man in charge/owner, a bellicose man who sternly said that he doesn't know when the wind will die down, and he has no control over it, but he certainly was counting cash as it rolled in from otherwise duped visitors. He told us rudely that we were free to leave and that no refunds will be given. Then he said we should go listen to the live music, which was a local artist singing to no audience. He then randomly mentioned 6,000 visitors on Friday. Seeing all of the disappointed reviews from dozens of others who came to the event page on Facebook and the winery's own page on Facebook to express their concerns about this event being a waste or time, misleading, and overpriced led me to wonder if there was a Yelp page; there wasn't until now. The signage for parking was poor, the communication was lacking and extremely poor, the festival website is confusing and disorganized. I have already informed friends and family that this is a waste of money and time. The festival, and the organizers, are full of hot air. Volunteers are staffed at the location. I'm happy that they do have satisfied visitors but I was certainly not one of them. We drove an hour and half to get there. Definitely not worth it.

Returned to give this event a second chance after being very disappointed last year…read more Parking: This year they had you park in the lot and they tractor trailer you over to the event. The ride over went fairly quick, but the giant line to return to your car at the end of the event was unbearable. We walked through the mud and across the road to get back to our car. They provided no walkway path for people who chose to walk over waiting behind 200 + people waiting for a tractor that holds 20 (they had 2 tractors running). We dodged cars, a tractor, and massive amounts of mud - in the dark. Food: The lines moved much quicker this year. This was possibly because they were fewer people than last year. It did seem like they had a few more food vendors. Wine: They upped the bottles to $25. This is not a $25 kind of wine. A few hours into the event they told us people could no longer buy bottles. There were only now only selling wine by the glass. Clearly this was so they could make more money. They are a winery. If they didn't have a supply of wine - they shouldn't be having a festival. This is the second day of a three day festival. Why are you not able to sell bottles? The people selling the wine were very nice. The blackberry wine taste was not consistent. Sometimes sweet and thick. Other times watered down. Limited selection. Vendors - Almost everything this year was political. No matter what your views - you should be able to attend an event without having to look at political things. Mostly tshirts and signs of. Almost no actual art or crafts. The coordinators of this event need to select vendors who are being inclusive - or be transparent on your website that you are a political event. Most of the other things for sale were the same mass produced manufactured things as last year. Balloons - What balloons? As others said - there were no balloons for the entire day. The started to inflate around 8:15 and they started deflating around 8:45. There were not 30 balloons. There were 9. The balloons could not go up because of the wind. That is understandably nomomews faukt. They lit up the balloons to make them glow instead. They let you walk around the balloons as they glowed. Not as cool as seeing them in the air - but it was a gyeat alternative! Walking around the balloons during the day would have been cool too. It's a balloon festival. We should've been able to view balloons during the day as well - even if they never left the ground. The half inflated balloon that you could PAY EXTRA to walk inside of does not count. We paid to get into a balloon festival. That should have been included. The website said no pets - but there were multiple people there with dogs. They had only one band. It did not play until very late in the day. The band had one sound that they used to butchered a variety of 80s songs. We appreciated the long break they took. There should have been live music all day. The website implies that there will be live music all day - this is not true. They need to be transparent and say there's one band and what time it plays - or deliver live music throughout the day. The portapot bathrooms were fairly clean! This was a highlight. Overall - I think the event was slightly better than last year. 1.5 stars. I think a lot of the improvement had to do with there being a smaller crowd. We arrived around 3 and there were tractors full of people already leaving the event. There is no reentry. They were leaving. People seemed to come and go the whole time me were there. Those leaving at 3 were not happy. There was little to do if you did not want to sit and chill under a canopy you brought yourself OR sit under the muddy communal canopy that was provided this year (something that was not last year). To sum it up - "meh!" This event has so much potential - yet they have not figured it out. The group planning this event needs to reach out to an event planner they have not worked with before. They should attend other events to learn what works and what doesn't. Having an all day event where nothing happens until hours into the event - does not work. 8:30 - 8:40 PM was great - but we arrived at 3. Sell bottles of wine - don't fake a need to ration and sell only by the glass. Add actual crafts people who are selling hand made things. Remove anything political (for sale or other) that divides any one group from another. Hold an event that is inclusive for all.

The concerts were held at different venues around the city (with pricing from $29 to $72). The three concerts that we chose were all held at the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center and they were : Friday night -Al Jarreau with Marc Antoine and Steve Cole, Sat 4pm- Pieces of a Dream with Eric Roberaon and Sat 10:30pm- All Star Super Show w/ Brian Simpson, Boney James, Eugene Groove, Nick Colionne, Chuck Loeb, Nathan East and Eric Roberson. All of the shows were outstanding. Although Al Jarreau is getting old and can't quite hit the notes like he used to, it was an honor seeing this jazz legend. It was a weekend of pure jazz that any enthusiast would have thoroughly enjoyed. In addition to the concerts, there was jazz being performed by local artist in the various establishments on in and around Rehoboth occuring during the early afternoon until late in the evening. The local fire station hosted an afternoon jazz band that featured a young female saxophonist that could give the likes of Boney James and Kim Waters a run for their money. It was awesome! We couldn't come to the beach without actually going on the beach, so we strolled the boardwalk and walk out on the sand, taking in magnificent views of the Atlantic on such a wonderful, but brisk and sunny weekend. We also visited the local shops and came away with tasty nut brittle and souvenir shirts for $5 a pop! One thing to mention is that based on my observations, Rehoboth Beach is very animal friendly with folks walking their dogs along the streets and boardwalk and local merchants setting out water and treats! So check with the various hotels in the area for pet friendly rooms and bring your pooch along for the trip! We will be back for next year's festival indeed.

It wasn't that crowded around noon on Saturday; however, it got more packed as the day passed by. There were at least 3-4 food trucks, and banks were there handing out freebies to the public. So fascinating to look at artwork and check out local art pieces / see the artists. The festival was held right near the local library and park, so location was great!
