This was the absolute worst rental experience ever! We had to wait almost an hour for the shuttle to pick us up from the airport. We called 4 times during this hour and each time the response was "the shuttle will be there in 5-7 minutes." Then I was told there would be a hold on my account for $500 (even though my rental was prepaid ahead of time). It turns out the charged my card for that amount and then some. It will now take 5-7 business days for them to return my money that they weren't supposed to take in the first place. I would NOT recommend this place to anyone! read more

Somehow it ended up costing us upwards of $50/day to rent a car here (obviously returned with no damage and with a full gas tank), which is about twice what I am used to paying per day for a car rental. When we returned it they mixed our paperwork up with somebody else's, and by the time we had it sorted out we ended up owing almost our entire $400 deposit in addition to the $300 we paid up front. It was a fine car and all but we feel pretty ripped off. I threw in a star because they were really good about picking us up and dropping us off at the airport. read more

I decided to try Popular Auto even though I was nervous that they were not located at the airport. The process was easy, efficient and I would definitely do this again. I booked on Travelocity and with a Banco Popular account, I got an additional discount. I give this process 5 stars as There was not one area that they could have improved. We rented a car here 'FOX RENTAL CARS' but it's really called Popular Auto... we were thinking this was inside the airport and it was about 15 minutes away from the airport. You have to call them and make a pick up arrangement, which is free of charge. Make sure you drop a pin in this location because it is not easy to find on your way back, maps got us lost twice. We had to call them and have them give us the right directions (step by step). Forget about trying to google it because it just won't give you an address or it will take you the wrong way. The service was a bit slow but nothing too crazy because there was only one person in front of us. read more

Rude and unprofessional employess! Burgos and a female Annalyst got upset and hang up the phone on me repeatedly! Then waited to speak to a supervisor and some employee answered the phone and acted to be the superior. I immediatly cancelled my booking with them! Not a good vibe at all! I'm definitively not recommend this car rental. They place is not in the same airport, then when I arrived took an hour to pick up me at the airport to drove 20 minutes to their place to rent a car. Because they only have one minivan to pickup passenger at the airport. Most companies have more than one vans to pickup passenger. Very rude and unfriendly people work in that place. Very sad situation because I am from Puerto Rico and I try to support local business but definitively this place is the worst that ever I seen. I received terrible service. I called to make a reservation at the Isla Verde office, because the Bayamón office didn't have vans available. I made a reservation several days in advance for a move, found child care, etc., and the day before the call me that they didn't actually have my van bc someone had to returned it. When I said that was unacceptable and that they should have a policy for such eventualities, they somehow found a van at the Bayamón office. But since Bayamón doesn't open on Sundays, I had to pick it up in Bayamón and return it im Isla Verde, and I had to find a way to get to and from both offices since I couldn't leave my car bc I was using two different offices. The other alternative was to pay for the rental for two days. Then, they gave me a van with old tires and we got a flat tire on the highway. They do not provide or pay for roadside assistance to change tires. Moreover, the replacement tire was flat! Luckily, a man stopped and provided assistance with one of those cans that somewhat inflates a tire until you can get to a place to replace it. Apparently two flat tires are not a "mechanical defect" and is not covered on their "free towing" policy. The Mayaguez office was closed so we could not replace the van. The experience was awful. read more

I rented a compact car for a few days in July, and after renting cars a few times in Latin America, this was the first company that didn't try to scam me. After reserving the car online, I did not receive a confirmation until about a week before my trip. The confirmation was written by a person and informed me that I had to provide proof of insurance or pay $12/day - would have been nice if they told me that when reserving the car, but I was going to buy it anyway. They picked me up at the airport and brought me to their location, which was about a 10 minute ride away. On the way, they asked me where I was going on the trip and provided helpful directions. They gave me a Hyundai Accent which was in good condition with about 11k miles on it. The rate was $37.95/day which was a bit less than any of the better known rental places. Overall, I'd recommend this place unless you're coming or going outside of their business hours. They provide good service and you'll save a bit of money. read more

After seeing all the bad reviews I almost changed my reservation the day I was supposed to pick it up ! My experience was very good though. Fast pickup and drop off and I got my deposit back within days and it was overall a great experience they even knocked off a few bucks because of all the fees I had I got the base price cheaper than what was promised ! We thought this was one of the better companies until we arrived at the airport and called to be picked up. They informed me that a shuttle was on their way but it didn't arrive until I called back 3 times and waited 45 minuets. Getting the car was easy and quick - thank god. Then came returning the car.. the addresses return is on a one way in the middle of no where and the building doesn't even exist! So we call and ask where we need to bring this car, they give us and address that is close to a half hour away! At this point we have just enough time to make it there in hopes that they are quick with the return so we don't miss our flight. We get to that address and it's in the middle of a neighborhood. Finally after calling 6 times they give us another address where we find the place 15 mins away from the previous address and they tell us they will take us to the airport in our rental. No paperwork on the return or anything. Lord knows if we got out deposit back or if they over changed us. WORST COMPANY EVER - DO NOT RENT FROM HERE! read more

Poor customer service. Difficult to deal with on the phone and in person. Ended up being charged other fees not included in the rentalcars.com total. Definitely bring proof of insurance. Difficult to find using phone GPS. Easy to find after realizing it's Fox rental in the GPS. Can't comment on the pick up shuttle at the airport, but the drop off shuttle was fine. read more

This is the worst rental place I have ever been to and I travel at least every other month. We waited at the airport for 2 hours before a shuttle came and then when they finally came there were 3 employees working inside the rental place but only 1 of them helping customers. If they were that busy they should of had multiple shuttles to pick up people from the airport. read more

Probably the worst experience I've ever had in renting cars. First of all, they don't let you know that a shuttle is supposed to pick you up from the airport in email form or anything, so when I landed I had to call about 8 times before someone finally picked up, and said I had to find a yellow and blue shuttle that said "Fox Rentals." It took nearly 1hr 45min for the shuttle to finally arrive. Once I got there, only one guy was taking care of everything, with two people in front of me, it took about 2 hours for me to finally get the car, already wasting almost 4 hours of my trip. And sure enough, the whole time he was ignoring every phone call, because he was busy helping everyone inside the place. Also, make sure you get the address and type in FOX RENTALS on your navigation when returning it, because the place is nearly impossible to find.) I had a 2p.m flight to return, so I made sure I'd give myself plenty of time, knowing how slow the place ran, and sure enough I got there at 11a.m and didn't leave til nearly 1p.m to RETURN the vehicle, because yet again, only one guy was working the counter, and going out to get other people's cars, while checking on your returned car. So if you want to waste your whole day renting a car, this is defiantly the place for you. read more

Horrible service....it took 45 mins for shuttle to arrive and then 1.5 hours to get the actual vehicle...do not recommend

First things first, I understand that you get what you pay for, but I would give the Carolina branch a 0 if I could. We were charged an additional 130 in admin fees and taxes once we returned our rental. So if you are just trying to save a few bucks don't waste your time. There were 3 gentlemen helping 1 person and that took about 40 minutes. I had to make a stink just so that we could get a return shuttle to the airport just so that we wouldn't miss our flight. Once we finally were assisted, we had to wait another 20 minutes for one of the guys to decide who would drive the shuttle. The shuttle is about 15 mins from the airport, not to mention that the day we arrived the shuttle passed us by 3x and most people ended up taking a taxi to the rental company. If you do decide to go with Popular Auto make sure you have at least 2 hours for picking up and dropping off and pray that nobody else is there being assisted! Will never use again!!! read more

I feel I need to give them a thumb up. After reading previous reviews, I was really uncertain about this small rental company that I never heard of. But because I've got a great rate via rentalcars.com I decided to go for it. The first impression was not good: I waited 40 minutes for their shuttle in the airport, just like one of the review said. (It turned out to be an accident sincec the second time I took their shuttle I did not wait for that long). But thereafter everything is so nice: the stuff were warm and helpful, pick up their phone very quickly. I did not have a credit card with me but they were flexible enough to let me pay through a debit card. I did not wait for too long after I arrived at their store. It is really a much nicer experience than I had with Avis, Enterprise, Budget, etc. I like a small, nice, hospital rental company like this. read more

Overall very cheap for a rental car for vacation. On the weekends they are busy and if they are picking you up from the airport it could take a while in their waiting room. Returning the car was much easier on a weekday and a quicker process. I give them a three because they aren't clear about the holds required for rental car and toll fees while in Puerto Rico. I didn't have a problem with those things, but would have been nice to have been prepared for a $300 hold on your account while on a vacation. read more

Is it possible to give this place negative stars? Do NOT rent from them! My wife and I flew to San Juan for a long awaited vacation. We ended up booking from rentalcars.com, but were suspicious of this place because we had never heard of them. We called the day before our flight to make sure we wouldn't have a problem, and Popular promised a "meet and greet" at the airport. There was no meeting or greeting. We proceeded to the location where the shuttle bus was supposed to pick us up. We waited for over an hour and they NEVER showed up. When we called their phone number, no one answered. We met another couple waiting for them and they couldn't reach them either. We got on the phone with rentalcars.com and they wanted us to take a taxi to Popular Auto but we had no faith that anyone would be there. It was a disaster. Eventually we got rentalcars.com to commit to paying for a legit rental car (Alamo). The other couple was still on the phone with Expedia trying to get them to pay for another car. If you rent from Popular, prepare for the worst. read more
