After wandering around the beach and boardwalk at Asbury Park, sometimes you need to cool off…read more Tucked inside the Asbury Park Convention Hall (right near the entrance) is Betty's Icebox (they also have a truck on the other side of the building in the food truck area). Betty's has several cool confections like ice pops and (my favorite) shaved ice! They also have fresh popped popcorn (complete with olive oil and seasonings). Betty's is a small shop with a long counter where you order and where the staff is stationed. The other side has a small counter space but it's mostly taken up by products like candy. Seating is mostly set up outside the shop in a partly fenced off area. On this particular visit I picked up some popcorn and seasoned it with olive oil and garlic salt. It was really yummy and man, you really can't beat fresh popped! The feature item for me was the shaved ice which is freshly made to order. I ordered a lime and watermelon flavor combination. I am trying to watch my sugar intake so I ordered a small but *holy cow* the thing was *huge*! It was easily enough for two people to share and it made for a beautiful serving. The shaved ice is served in a cup that then sits inside holes carved into the tables outside. It's a fantastic way to keep the treat stable without having to use a gigantic bowl. The watermelon/lime combination was delicious but it does get really sweet towards the bottom where the syrup condenses. No joke, you could easily take the remaining syrup and add it to a seltzer to make a soda! I really enjoyed Betty's and look forward to visiting again in the future!

Delicious vegan popsicles and goodies for the whole family!…read more Tucked in a frozen corner of the convention center you'll find Betty's Ice Box, and while the prices are boardwalk typical it's totally worth the splurge. Their refreshing popsicles and snowcones are just what you need on a hot beach day. The popsicles specifically have a very dense texture and a nice crunchy chew to them, just like I like. It's an easy choice if you want something cold that's not ice cream.
