We had a very sweet older couple (in their 80s) to the store for a new bed and were taken advantage of by the sales people. They barely had time to try any mattresses out and were led along and purchased a bed totaling over $5,000. Then after the bed was ordered and came in over 3 weeks later, it was delivered. Then 2 days later, my friend went back to the store and spoke with the manager, Tara and let her know that the mattresses were hurting their backs and asked if they could exchange them. Tara was very rude and dismissive and told her that there were ABSOLUTELY NO EXCHANGES ALLOWED! Wow! Incredible that a customer service oriented business would not exchange 2 twin mattresses to help an elderly couple and expected them to just take it. Every other store I have ever purchased a mattress from allows at least a 30 day trial for a mattress. Horrible customer service. I have tried for 2 weeks to contact Tara, Caleb (store manager) and the owner (Kirk Barton) have left emails and multiple phone messages and have not ever received a call back. If you want good customer service DO NOT go to Generations Furniture, go anywhere else in Poplar Bluff that offers better exchange and customer service. Shame on them!!!

We then had the owner/designer Carole H. come out to our property on July 14, 2025. We wanted an estimate on draperies and new furnishings for our living room and entry way. She spent time measuring the rooms and having a discussion with us. I gave her access to my Pinterest board to show her the looks that we liked and had an interest in exploring. We were completely prepared to spend a significant amount of money to have our living room and entryway redone and have custom draperies for the living room and the master bedroom. Carole shared when she came out on that Tuesday that she would be leaving for vacation on Friday. She stated that it would be 3 to 4 weeks before she would be able to get anything back to us. We were completely fine with that as we told her we were not in a hurry and 3 to 4 weeks would be fine. Jump ahead over seven weeks now, almost 8, and we have been completely ghosted. There has not been a single phone call, email, or text from Carole back to us with any status update on the project. This lack of engagement is completely unprofessional, and we are extremely upset and angry with the lack of professionalism. If this job was not something that she felt she could do perform or had the time to do, then a simple phone call, text or email saying that she was not able to do the job is all that we expect. Not every design is for everybody and if life interrupts and you are unable to do the job, I completely understand that. There is a level of communication that needs to occur when you run a business and there is a level of professionalism that is expected. We will happily take our money elsewhere!!!

Today we went to Menards and ordered the shower door enclosure...SHOWER door for a walk in SHOWER!…read more The guy even came back and asked if it was for a tub or shower and we said shower. they took it to the back and loaded it with some other things we needed onto our trailer. Drive over an hour to get home and they gave us the TUB not the SHOWER. Called Menards and got the plumbing manager that sounded like he was reading off queue cards. "If you bring that back we can exchange it"....."You know we have tub and shower doors"....OVER AND OVER. Never once said that he was sorry that happened. Just repeated these same things over and over. When I told him he lacked empathy and the first thing should have been to tll us he was sorry that happened and if we can come in and exchange it he would give us a gift card or something equivalent to the diesel we have to waste coming there again because of their mistake. Instead he tells me that if I continue to talk like that the conversation would be over. so calling the department MANAGER out on his lack of empathy is grounds for ending the call. over the last few weeks we have spent a lot in this store because of house renovations. Maybe should have just gone to home depot where they give 11% for military discount for my husband all the time without having to send in a receipt and form.
