#368-2016:
The Scalzi Bridge is one of 4 bridges (Rialto, Academia and Costituzione) that cross the Canal Grande in Venice. It also is the very first bridge visitors cross upon exiting the railroad station.
Originally built in 1858, under the supervision of Alfred Neville. However, due to structural issues, the bridge was rebuilt in its actual form (and inaugurated in 1934) using Pietra di Istria.
Though it may not be as esthetically amazing as Rialto, it is quite the sight and make for a perfect backsplash for selfies (one of the causes of delays in crossing).
I admit it adamantly, every time I happen to visit Venice, I take my time and stop on top of this bridge, just to sink in the city, snap a pic of the canal and simply appreciate the beauty Italy has to offer. read more
